At the Crexendo UGM, Manny Christophidis (Carrier Sales Manager) and Rohan Milne (CEO) of Switch Connect joined Technology Reseller News Publisher Doug Green to explore how customer communications are shifting from “phone-number centric” to outcome-driven collaboration. The team described a market where many businesses now operate across Teams, chat, apps, and social channels—sometimes needing a phone number only for regulatory or edge cases—pushing providers to evolve beyond DID/minutes into higher-value digital transformation. Switch Connect recounted its own pivot: after a legacy UCaaS platform exited Australia, the company rapidly migrated to the NetSapiens stack and now helps carriers move from TDM to IP and launch modern offers across Asia and beyond. COVID accelerated the mindset shift from voice to collaboration and hybrid work; meetings, screen share, and asynchronous channels increasingly ride OTT rather than PSTN. “We've moved from the age of voice to the age of collaboration—success now starts with the workflow, not the dial tone,” said Christophidis. That evolution opens both risk and opportunity for partners. The duo emphasized consultative selling, measuring success the way customers do, and weaving AI, cloud services, and integrations into business processes—rather than leading with a single product. “We're not just a technology company—we're a digital-transformation partner, using AI and cloud to help clients do more with what they already have,” noted Milne. They also highlighted practical realities: shifting budget authority (often toward marketing), managing shadow IT, and even running internal hackathons to turn IT from a cost center into a profit center. For providers wondering where to begin, Switch Connect's advice is straightforward: deepen discovery around the customer's revenue model, align collaboration and AI to those outcomes, and accept that UCaaS is now a component—not the whole story. I, Stewart Alsop, welcomed Alex Levin, CEO and co-founder of Regal, to this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast to discuss the fascinating world of AI phone agents. Alex shared some incredible insights into how AI is already transforming customer interactions and what the future holds for company agents, machine-to-machine communication, and even the nature of knowledge itself.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:29 Alex Levin shares that people are often more honest with AI agents than human agents, especially regarding payments.02:41 The surprising persistence of voice as a preferred channel for customer interaction, and how AI is set to revolutionize it.05:15 Discussion of the three types of AI agents: personal, work, and company agents, and how conversational AI will become the main interface with brands.07:12 Exploring the shift to machine-to-machine interactions and how AI changes what knowledge humans need versus what machines need.10:56 The looming challenge of centralization versus decentralization in AI, and how Americans often prioritize experience over privacy.14:11 Alex explains how tokenized data can offer personalized experiences without compromising specific individual privacy.25:44 Voice is predicted to become the primary way we interact with brands and technology due to its naturalness and efficiency.33:21 Why AI agents are easier to implement in contact centers due to different entropy compared to typical software.38:13 How Regal ensures AI agents stay on script and avoid "hallucinations" by proper training and guardrails.46:11 The technical challenges in replicating human conversational latency and nuances in AI voice interactions.Key InsightsAI Elicits HonestyPeople tend to be more forthright with AI agents, particularly in financially sensitive situations like discussing overdue payments. Alex speculates this is because individuals may feel less judged by an AI, leading to more truthful disclosures compared to interactions with human agents.Voice is King, AI is its HeirDespite predictions of its decline, voice remains a dominant channel for customer interactions. Alex believes that within three to five years, AI will handle as much as 90% of these voice interactions, transforming customer service with its efficiency and availability. The Rise of Company AgentsThe primary interface with most brands is expected to shift from websites and apps to conversational AI agents. This is because voice is a more natural, faster, and emotive way for humans to interact, a behavior already seen in younger generations.Machine-to-Machine FutureWe're moving towards a world where AI agents representing companies will interact directly with AI agents representing consumers. This "machine-to-machine" (M2M) paradigm will redefine commerce and the nature of how businesses and customers engage.Ontology of KnowledgeAs AI systems process vast amounts of information, creating a clear "ontology of knowledge" becomes crucial. This means structuring and categorizing information so AI can understand the context and user's underlying intent, rather than just processing raw data.Tokenized Data for PrivacyA potential solution to privacy concerns is "tokenized data." Instead of providing AI with specific personal details, users could share generalized tokens (e.g., "high-intent buyer in 30s") that allow for personalized experiences without revealing sensitive, identifiable information.AI Highlights Human InconsistenciesImplementing AI often brings to light existing inconsistencies or unacknowledged issues within a company. For instance, AI might reveal discrepancies between official scripts and how top-performing human agents actually communicate, forcing companies to address these differences.Influence as a Key Human SkillIn a future increasingly shaped by AI, Sam Altman (via Alex) suggests that the ability to "influence" others will be a paramount human skill. This uniquely human trait will be vital, whether for interacting with other people or for guiding and shaping AI systems.Contact Information* Regal AI: regal.ai* Email: hello@regal.ai* LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/alexlevin1/

Imagine running your multifamily property with nothing but your voice. Sounds futuristic? It's closer than you think. Conversational AI is reshaping the future of multifamily property management. While visual tools like dashboards and 3D renderings are valuable, voice technology will drive the next wave of innovation. Picture this: you simply ask your system, "What were last month's water costs across my portfolio?" The AI instantly provides answers, flags anomalies, and can even take action—like engaging vendors for repairs. Whether it's through devices like an Echo Dot, Google Home or AI-embedded glasses, managing operations will soon be as simple as having a conversation. This shift eliminates inefficiencies like endless meetings and manual scheduling. AI agents handle data queries, vendor coordination, accounting processes, and more, while humans focus on strategic decisions and oversight. Multifamily workflows will evolve into a faster, more intelligent ecosystem with this seamless blend of automation and human expertise. And this isn't some distant sci-fi scenario—it's happening now. In many ways, the disparity between men and women in the workplace is manifested from the economical standpoint, societal expectations, and existing biases. How often do women apologize or minimize the importance of what they say in the workplace? This displays a lack of confidence and in order to combat that, empowerment must take place. In today’s episode, we have the founders of Voice First World. We tackle the way to success as women in business by being empowered and instilling confidence in ourselves. Jennifer Rettele-Thomas (she/her/hers) and Jen Vellenga (she/her/hers) are the co-founders of the virtual coaching company, Voice First World. They coach women to speak with presence to advance their careers in the digital age. [00:01 – 10:07] Overcoming Challenges in Careers as Women Jennifer Rettele-Thomas and Jen Vellenga founded Voice First World in 2011 as a way to empower women to use their voices confidently in their careers How taking a risk can be rewarding, even if it's scary at first. How empowering women is a necessary step in order to help them overcome any challenges they may face in their careers [10:08 – 19:32] On the Way to Success through Empowerment Helping women become successful in whatever position of life they were in Finding solutions to the gender gap in leadership through empowerment The lack of diversity among leaders during the pandemic The path to overcoming challenges to start an academic career [19:33 – 29:10] How To Deal With Rejection The benefits of not holding yourself back because of gender Overcome the lack of confidence by using language that is more assertive The importance of using the right words to show your expertise [29:09 – 32:06] How To Connect with Jennifer and Jen Work your way towards empowerment! Key Quotes: “The decision to work with women was because of some of the bias that we had seen, that we faced as women in our positions. There were many stories of bias and things that got under our skin about how women were treated in the workplace. And we wanted to be part of the solution. ” - Jen Vellenga “It [overcoming the lack of confidence] is the choice of vocabulary. And it's what you say and how you say it, and what we see at all levels… that could be adjusted to make them [women] even stronger.” - Jen Vellenga Connect with Jennifer Rettele-Thomas and Jen Vellenga
As writers and poets, we often wonder: who is this porous and gullible and hungry person writing my poems, who is feeding her and is she for real? Is it truly me who wrote this? Is that my story, my voice? Why don't I sound like myself—or worse, why does my self sound…not quite right? These questions can be painful, discouraging, silencing. Let's move beyond them and go deeper into the real mysteries, the useful ones, the ones that help us write and propel us further into our journey as writers. In this talk, Brenda Shaughnessy examined why some “first words” last, what trusting your voice means, and how inchoate feelings can be transformed into art. This event took place on April 19, 2022.
