(4) James Tabor challenges the tradition that John the fisherman was the "beloved disciple" at the crucifixion, arguing instead that it was James, Jesus' blood brother. He positions James as the legitimate successor and leader of the "Nazarene movement" in Jerusalem, citing the Gospel of Thomas and James' authoritative role at the Council of Jerusalem in 50 CE. By emphasizing the role of biological brothers like James, Jude, and Simon, Tabor highlights the central importance of the Jesus family in maintaining the movement's leadership and integrity until James' martyrdom in 62 CE.

The Lord was ready to bring Israel into the Promised Land in just eighteen months. Instead, it took forty years. Is your own "wilderness wandering" a result of geography, or is it a matter of the heart? Summary: In this episode, we dive into the Book of Numbers. We move past the genealogies to uncover the spiritual friction that keeps us from moving forward. We analyze the pivotal moments where faith collided with fear and learn how to speed up the clock on our own spiritual progress. The Timetable of Faith: We discuss how our activities or procrastinations can "slow the hands of the clock" on God's promises. The Report of the Spies: We contrast the "grasshopper complex" of the ten spies with the "mountain-moving faith" of Joshua and Caleb. The Brazen Serpent: We explore the profound simplicity of "looking to live" and why we sometimes refuse the easiest cures offered by the Savior. Miriam and Aaron's Murmuring: We look at the dangers of "steadying the ark" and questioning local and prophetic leadership. The Daughters of Zelophehad: We conclude with the beautiful balance of agency and order found at the end of the book, proving that the "Number" God cares most about is the individual soul. Call-to-Action: Are you currently in a "Caleb" season of faith or a "Grasshopper" season of fear? What is one "giant" in your way that you are ready to overcome with the Lord's help? During this week's Substack LIVE, Charlie Sykes and Matt discuss:— Trump's Megalomania and Historical Self-Comparison: Donald Trump has reportedly begun comparing himself to Hegel's legendary “heroes of an Epoch”: Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon Bonaparte. What could possibly go wrong?!?— Trump's Collapsing Polls and Political Damage: Sharp drops in approval, especially among independents; dismal ratings on Iran war handling, economy, inflation, and cost of living tied to gas price spikes, and more;— Scott Jennings' On-Air Meltdown: CNN contributor Scott Jennings dropping an F-bomb and losing his temper against a young liberal YouTuber (Adam Mockler). So why hasn't he been fired?— MAGA Congressman Riley Moore and the New Bishop: West Virginia Congressman Riley Moore — a Catholic Republican who gave a thumbs-up photo in front of El Salvador prison cages with migrants — got a surprise, recently. Pope Leo appointed a new bishop for West Virginia who is a former undocumented immigrant from El Salvador.— Rudy Giuliani's Fallen Legacy: Giuliani in critical condition in hospital; dramatic squandering of his post-9/11 hero status (would have had schools, airports, etc., named after him); comparison to Benedict Arnold as someone whose early heroism was destroyed by later flaws and choices.— 2028 Trump Family Dynasty Speculation: Charlie and Matt agree that Trump might decide to back a family member in 2028 (Don Jr. or Ivanka!) as successor to retain influence and protection; Don Jr. as the more obvious but flawed candidate; Ivanka as potentially stronger (more likable, electable, historic first-woman angle).— And MUCH more!Subscribe to Matt Lewis on Substack: https://mattklewis.substack.com/Support Matt Lewis at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mattlewisFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MattLewisDCTwitter: https://twitter.com/mattklewisInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mattlewisreels/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVhSMpjOzydlnxm5TDcYn0A– Who is Matt Lewis? –Matt K. As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 election cycle, a quiet but significant political trend is gaining attention across the country. Increasingly, some political leaders are openly indicating their preferred successors long before party primaries are conducted. While supporters describe it as a way of ensuring continuity in governance, critics argue that it may weaken internal party democracy and limit the choices available to voters. But how democratic is this practice really? And what impact could it have on the political space and the electorate?Today on Nigeria Daily, we speak with a Political Analyst on the democratic implications of early succession endorsements, hear from Nigerians on how they feel about leaders choosing successors before primaries, and also engage a Public Affairs Analyst on what this trend could mean for the wider electorate.

With the Pope once again in the global spotlight, questions about his authority—and the authority of the church he leads—are drawing renewed attention. Both the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church claim an unbroken line of leadership stretching back to the apostles. According to this view, today's bishops—and ultimately the Pope—stand in direct succession to the apostle Peter. But how strong is this claim? In this episode of Apostolic Life in the 21st Century, Dr. David K. Bernard examines whether there is credible historical evidence for an unbroken chain of authority—and whether such a lineage, even if proven, would establish theological authority.Dr. Bernard discusses:The origins and development of apostolic succession claimsThe biblical role of Peter in the early churchThe difference between historical continuity and doctrinal authorityWhy apostolic teaching—not just succession—is essential to the identity of the churchThis timely episode brings clarity to a complex and often misunderstood topic, helping listeners evaluate competing claims through the lens of Scripture. If you've ever wondered how to assess claims of church authority—or what truly defines the New Testament church—this episode offers thoughtful, balanced, and biblical insight.Visit PentecostalPublishing.com to shop Dr. Bernard's full catalog of published works. 5. Julia: The Tool and Rebel of Augustus (9)Augustus used his only daughter, Julia, as a political tool to secure his heirs. He forced her into multiple marriages with potential successors like Agrippa and Tiberius. While she was initially obedient and produced five children, Julia eventually rebelled by engaging in very public affairs, including one with the son of her father's rival, Mark Antony. Furious that she undermined his public image of family virtue, Augustus exiled her to a remote island for nearly twenty years. After Augustus died, Tiberius took control and starved her to death.
