His work primarily focuses on millisecond pulsars and detecting Fast Radio Bursts. Professor Bailes was awarded the 2023 Shaw Prize in Astronomy along with Duncan Lorimer & Maura McLaughlin for the discovery of Fast Radio Bursts.
