Robyn Carter, founder and CEO of Jump Rope Innovation (JPI), discusses how retail and CPG companies can start preparing for a pandemic fall. Carter shares her insight into trends retailers and CPG companies could leverage to better reach a set of consumers looking for nostalgia in challenging times. She addresses the upcoming holiday season and the increased focus on health and wellness among consumers. In preparing for a pandemic fall, Carter also looks at the renewed importance on family dinners and how both CPG and retailers can create shared experiences for consumers to enjoy at a time when those experiences were previously in short supply. Hosted By: Chris Campbell Recorded: Sept. 1, 2020 Join the Food Institute Today! More About Robyn Carter: Carter is the founder and CEO of Jump Rope Innovation, a trends and innovation consultancy that brings consumer and category trends together in service of smart innovation. Carter is also co-founder of IT! Factor, a tool that brings social media Influencers together with brands for future-forward research and idea development. Jump Rope serves some of the world's top CPG companies— including Unilever, Mondelez, and Mars Wrigley—as well as clients in other industries such as nutritional supplements and foodservice. Carter founded Jump Rope Innovation in 2005, shortly after her son was born, so she is well versed in some of the parent-while-you-work challenges that many are facing today. Before founding Jump Rope Innovation, Carter's previous life was spent in advertising, working in both Account Management and New Business, helping to create and implement communications strategies for some truly iconic brands such as Capri Sun, Red Stripe, and Maxwell House. She graduated from Cornell University with a BS in Industrial & Labor Relations. When she's not working (and sometimes when she is, as her husband joined her at Jump Rope as Managing Partner in 2018), Carter enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her husband John, five kids, and a dog who thinks he's human. She loves travel, cooking and fitness, and in spite of her admittedly questionable athletic ability, she's completed three half-marathons with her daughter, Catherine (all three in her hometown, Brooklyn, NY). On this week's episode of EG's We're Still Here podcast deputy editor Tim Burke joins host Emily Wright for a round-up of the week's big news. And there can be no sugar-coating this one. From JLL to Knight Frank and from CBRE to Avison Young, major agencies have put hundreds of at risk as they look at reshaping their businesses for a post-pandemic world. With cuts currently expected across the businesses, Tim discusses who is at risk before urging the sector to act with compassion and kindness in already challenging and unprecedented times. Trying to find a silver lining, we also discuss how the industry's talent might potentially be redeployed to reflect the changing shape of the sector and the wider world. In the eternal words of Apocalypse Now, "The Horror. The Horror." And, in the immortal words of the Terminator, "I know now why you cry. But it's something I can never do." And of course, in the undying words of Jack Dawson, "Promise me, Rose. And never let go of that promise." Today, we understand Halloween and the Day of the Dead a little bit better as we grow more comfortable with the spirit realm. Today, we take a very serious game very seriously. Today, we review This War of Mine. This game is unfair. It's a constant fight for survival and against entropy in a war-torn city. A fight made by unready civilians. It inspires more stories about death than it does about hope. We spar about the caliber of its stories and trials. In what's hopefully brighter speculation, we review the solo games that do not cause us existential dread while playing. Where the movement of chits and pawns does not inspire us to stare out our windows forlornly. These are games that rise above and occupy us fully. Yet somehow we can't even agree on this. Be safe everyone. 04:32 This War of Mine04:47 Signorie & Kingsburg05:04 Nippon05:17 Lost Cities, Can't Stop, Targi, Palaces of Carrara, La Granja06:23 Race for the Galaxy: The Brink of War08:07 Pandemic Iberia09:13 Pandemic: Hot Zone - North America10:55 FEATURE GAME This War of Mine34:51 FEATURE TOPIC Solo Games that Don't Cause Existential Dread38:19 Oh Hell39:59 Underwater Cities, A Feast for Odin, Terraforming Mars, Agricola41:32 Nemo's War42:08 Tainted Grail, Grimslingers, This War of Mine43:26 It's a Wonderful World44:09 Wingspan, Tiny Towns, Welcome To...45:02 Maracaibo, Scythe, Tapestry, Wingspan47:41 Clans of Caledonia48:37 On Mars, Lisboa, Escape Plan, Pandemic, Pandemic Fall of Rome51:00 Tiny Towns53:10 Gloomhaven56:32 A Feast for Odin58:47 Spirit Island01:00:00 Sleeping Gods01:00:32 Gaia Project and Terra Mystica

Jason gets to revel in some glory this week as we catch up on a whole bunch of Pandemic. We covered some of the earlier versions way back in episodes 14 and 15 of the show. Please hop over to our website (www.everynightisgamenight.com) or our GeekList (https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/228542/every-night-game-n...) to check those out. For this latest round, we start with the new hotness - Pandemic: Fall of Rome (4:09). Both of us have played it, so we're able to give a nice chunky review of it. After that, Jason runs through some earlier iterations of Pandemic that not many folks are talking about, but that Jason thinks are good regardless - Pandemic: Rising Tide (15:20) and Pandemic Legacy: Season Two (21:14). Finally, we get into out current thoughts on Legacy games. How are we doing with them? Are we able to get through them all, or even some of them? Are we still excited, or experiencing a bit of backlash? Once again, thanks to everyone in the Every Night is Game Night Facebook group who helped contribute thoughts, questions, etc.
Join Graeme and Dean with special guest Lella as they discuss Wingspan, Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra, Pandemic: Fall of Rome and Kashgar. They also discuss the Kickstarter projects War of Worlds: The New Wave and AVGhost Paranormal Investigations. They have some coffee talk about 10x10 Challenges and finally their leftovers of Airlines Europe, Memoir 44 and the Knizia Lord of the Rings.

We're getting ready for Pax this week and wanted to do something a little longer than the typical weekly episode, so we've revisited one of our more popular episodes from last year, reviewing the BGG Top 100. To kick things off, we share our Question of the Week, courtesy of listener, Chris Jarvis, Would you rather see more licensed boardgames of big IPs from other media, such as film or video games, or do you prefer the hobby to build its own worlds and characters, like Near and Far, Forbidden Desert/Sky etc? Next up, we look at our acquisition disorders. Anthony kicks things off with Pandemic: Fall of Rome and then Chris looks at Luna, TMG's new Deluxified edition. At the table this week, Anthony reviews Santa's Workshop and Colonies for Terraforming Mars, while Chris looks at Ultimate Werewolf Legacy and a dice tower from Altruistic. Finally, we dig back into the BGG Top 100, comparing it to where it was in October, 2017, and sharing whether we think the games on it now should rise, stay where they are or fall down the list. Look for predictions episode in January too when we'll speculate on which 2018 games will work their way into the list in the next 12 months. Question of the Week: 6:31 Acquisition Disorders: 9:55 Santa's Workshop Review: 16:55 Terraforming Mars Colonies Review: 22:40 Ultimate Werewolf Legacy Review: 29:42 Altruistic Dice Tower Review: 34:35 BGG Top 100: Rise or Fall: 35:50 If you haven’t yet, be sure to connect with us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/boardgamersanonymous), Twitter (http://twitter.com/bgapodcast), and on our website (www.boardgamersanonymous.com).
