Your teenage son may be taller than you, stronger than you, pushing for more independence—and acting like he needs you less. But that doesn't necessarily mean he needs less connection. In this episode of The Single Parenting Reset Show, I'm joined by relational and men's coach Mike Elliott for an honest conversation about what teenage boys may be communicating underneath the shutdown, defensiveness, anger, and “Leave me alone.”Because sometimes what looks like disrespect or withdrawal is actually a young person who doesn't yet know what to do with everything happening inside of him.Mike and I talk about what it means for a teen boy to be under-resourced emotionally and relationally—and why connection, emotional safety, support, and healthy mentorship matter so much as boys move toward adulthood. We also talk specifically about the experience of single moms raising sons. How do you remain the safe place without trying to fix everything? How do you recognize the tenderness that may still be there underneath your son's growing strength and independence? And how do you help him find healthy men to learn from when Dad may not be available—or may not be able to provide the mentorship your son needs?Inside this conversation, you'll learn:Why your teenage son's difficult behavior may be protecting something more vulnerableWhy fixing, lecturing, or problem-solving too quickly can make a teen stop opening upHow emotional safety changes the way your son experiences youWhy boys can still need reassurance and connection even while pushing for independenceHow to separate your own history and triggers from what is happening with your sonWhat healthy male mentorship can offer a growing boyHow to look beyond Dad and intentionally build a wider circle of healthy menMike's simple VAR framework: Vulnerability, Acknowledgment, ReassuranceWhat to say when your teen is overwhelmed and snapping at youWhy seeing your son for who he actually is may matter more than trying to mold him into who you think he should becomeOne of my favorite ideas from this conversation is simple:When your teen brings you vulnerability, you don't always have to fix it. Sometimes your job is simply to hold it.That is connection before correction in action.Listen to the full episode and consider this question:Where might my son need more connection, support, or mentorship right now—not more correction?Mike Elliott is an executive relational coach and men's coach based in British Columbia, Canada. His interest in relationships and emotional development grew partly from his own history. Mike was adopted twice during his first year of life and describes struggling with relationships, identity, substance use, anger, and disconnection during adolescence and early adulthood. After his own marriage ended, he devoted himself more deeply to understanding relationships, attachment, emotional development, and men's work. Today, he works with men around relationships, personal responsibility, emotional growth, mentorship, and becoming more grounded leaders in their families and lives. And if conflict with your tween or teen keeps turning into arguments, shutdowns, or power struggles, download my Tween & Teen Conflict Reset Kit for practical scripts to help you respond differently in those difficult moments. And be sure to follow or subscribe to The Single Parenting Reset Show so you don't miss the next Quick Reset.⭐️ If your family is stuck in repeating school-morning conflict, book a Parent Reset Strategy Session.⭐️Join the Family and get your weekly Mindful Kids and Family Journal here: https://www.mindfulkidsandfamilies.com/join-the-family (Get ready for lessons, podcast leads, offers for parents, and ways to win free parent coaching or masterclasses)
Send us Fan MailWhen Mike Elliott's marriage ended, he found himself collapsed on his kitchen floor, shaking and crying out, “I don't want to die.” In that moment, the successful adult man disappeared—and Mike recognized something much older underneath: the infant who had once been separated from his biological mother and was terrified of being abandoned again. That realization began a much deeper journey. In this episode of At the Podium, Mike reflects on being adopted, the grandmother who became his safe place, and the extraordinary experience of reading the journals his birth mother left behind. What began as a story he once carried with embarrassment eventually became something he describes as an honor. Our conversation widens into masculinity, vulnerability, relationships, personal responsibility, and the mythology of the self-made man. We also wrestle with a harder question: when powerful, high-performing men begin to heal their own wounds, what responsibility do they have for the collateral damage they may have caused along the way?Today, Mike uses what he has learned to work with men seeking greater connection with themselves and the people they love. His story is a reminder that healing is not simply an individual pursuit. Again and again, we are shaped, challenged, and ultimately transformed in relationship with others. We don't heal alone.
Step into a breathtaking, paradigm-shifting, deeply embodied conversation with Mike Elliott and Courtney Wren of The Sacred We, a real-life couple, parents, and partners in both love and business, on this episode of Intimate Conversations: Dark Night to Divine Light. Courtney is a Relational Somatic Therapist and mystic. Mike is a relationship coach and guide. Together, they bring over 30 years of combined experience helping couples build relationships that can truly hold it all: healing, intimacy, conflict, family, and purpose. They are also living proof that the work they teach is possible. Courtney shares how years of devoted inner work, including healing her relationship with her own inner masculine, prepared her nervous system for the relationship she was calling in. Spirit showed her images of someone so far outside her usual patterning that she knew she might not recognize him when he arrived. She asked for a sign. She called in a lion. Mike walked in with a lion tattoo. What followed was a conscious, slow, sacred unfolding of two people choosing each other with full presence and accountability. Mike opens up about what it felt like to be claimed by a woman who already had herself. How terrifying it was. How it brought his unintegrated insecurity and inadequacy to the surface. And how that sacred friction became an initiation, forging him into the man he had longed to become. Their story reframes what we think we know about masculine and feminine polarity. The feminine claims. The masculine devotes. And in that dance, something ancient and electric comes alive. We also talk about: How Courtney prepared her nervous system for years before calling Mike in Why being claimed by the feminine can be terrifying for a man The moment sacred sexuality initiated Courtney's inner priestess into embodiment Why the feminine claims and the masculine devotes Gentle power, strong back and soft front, and what it looks like in daily life Clearing ceremonies, consent, and sharing hard truths without triggering defensiveness Why women's emotions can be an invitation rather than an attack, and how men can learn to receive them The difference between the little boy saying no and the embodied man holding ground How Courtney learned to receive masculine structure as wisdom rather than shutdown Tracking cycles, attuning to the field, and moving at the pace of connection How understanding a man's emotional history can change the way a couple meets conflict Radical self-responsibility as the foundation of sacred partnership What becomes possible when two whole people stop performing and start truly meeting This episode is a transmission and an invitation into a version of love that most people have never witnessed up close. A love that does not avoid the fire, but walks into it together, emerging more whole, open, and devoted. Mike and Courtney's relationship is not a fairy tale. It is a practice: daily, embodied, courageous, and deeply devoted. Their story will challenge how you see yourself, your partner, and what is possible between two people willing to do the work. Taboo to Truth: Unapologetic Conversations About Sexuality in Midlife
In part two of my conversation with men's coach Mike Elliott, we get into how couples actually reconnect and rebuild intimacy after a sexless marriage, low desire, or years of disconnection in midlife. Mike walks me through the nervous system work, attachment science, and couples practice he uses to help men move past shame and disconnection in their relationship.Part two is where Mike gives us the actual practice. If you haven't watched part one yet, start there, since everything here builds on it directly.Mike walks me through his golden rule: move at the pace of connection, not the pace of friction. We get specific about what that looks like between two people, breathing together, gazing at each other before anything else happens, slowing down instead of rushing toward the end goal, and why so many men only find their way into this work once a marriage is already breaking. He talks about the "little boy" still running the show in a lot of grown men, why erectile difficulty is almost never really about the body, and why he believes healing happens in proximity to other men who've already done the work themselves. We also get into why a sexless marriage is never one partner's problem to fix alone, what happens to a relationship once the early hormone rush fades around the 18-month mark, and the "we language" Mike and his partner Courtney built their entire practice around. I close it out with my three rapid-fire questions: his definition of sex, his best orgasm, and the one fantasy he hasn't lived out yet.In This Episode:0:00 – The Six-Figure Life With a Silent Bedroom 0:10 – Welcome to Taboo to Truth 0:36 – Welcome Back to Part Two 1:32 – The Golden Rule: Move at the Pace of Connection, Not Friction 4:25 – Why Sex Is the Most Vulnerable Place We Go 5:10 – Radical Transparency: How Men Actually Start This Work 8:55 – When She Feels His Energy Leaking Somewhere Else 9:43 – It's Never a "You Problem," It's a "We Problem" 11:16 – The Honeymoon Hormones (And Why the Real Work Starts After) 12:16 – Learning "We Work": Moving Toward Instead of Pulling Away 13:49 – Can You Really Stay With One Person for Life? 14:33 – The Sacred We: Building a Language for the Long Haul 17:30 – Sacred Relationship and the Maturity That Creates Real Attraction 18:50 – Mike's Closing Advice: Pace of Connection, Not Pace of Ambition 20:53 – Three Rapid-Fire Questions: Sex, Best Orgasm & Unfulfilled Fantasy 23:07 – Where to Find Mike & Wrap-UpTo watch the video version of this episode, head over to YouTube!

Taboo to Truth: Unapologetic Conversations About Sexuality in Midlife
Every conversation about a sexless marriage gets pointed at the woman. Low desire, hormones, resentment, the mental load, she's the one who's supposed to explain herself. Nobody asks what happens on the other side of the bed, and today I sat down with men's coach Mike Elliott to find out.Mike works with high-performing men who look successful on paper and feel quietly disconnected underneath. In this conversation we get into why she rejects him and he assumes she doesn't want sex anymore, when the real story is closer to this: she doesn't feel seen, and her body has been scanning for safety the whole time. We talk about the difference between yang sex and yin sex, the exact instruction Mike gives every man he coaches (slow down, three times), and why a man who can't hold his own feelings can't hold hers either.Mike also gets personal. He tells me about the night in Whistler when he lost his erection with his own partner and spiraled into a shame he'd been avoiding his whole adult life, and what happened when she refused to let him run from it. If you have ever gone quiet in your own marriage, present in the house and absent in the relationship, this conversation names exactly what's happening in his body and gives you language for it. Part two is coming, so stay close.Join the waitlist for my upcoming coaching program for midlife men HERE. Healthy Relationships: Growing on a Soul LevelWhat if our relationships are more than simply the people we share our lives with? What if they are also mirrors—reflecting back the places within us that are ready to heal, grow, and be seen?In this episode, I'm joined by relationship expert Mike Elliott for a deep and meaningful conversation about what it really takes to create a healthy, connected relationship. We're exploring relationships not just from the perspective of communication and partnership, but from a deeper level—how our relationships can become opportunities for soul growth, self-awareness, healing, and transformation. We'll talk about the powerful concept of mirroring and how the people closest to us can sometimes bring our deepest wounds, patterns, and fears to the surface. Rather than seeing these moments as something that is wrong with the relationship, they can become invitations to understand ourselves more deeply. We're also diving into nervous system safety and regulation—why feeling emotionally and physically safe is so important for connection, how our nervous systems respond when we feel threatened or disconnected, and what it looks like to create greater safety with the person we love. And then there's intimacy—the vulnerability of truly allowing ourselves to be known, heard, understood, and loved. We'll explore what can get in the way of genuine intimacy and how we can begin creating relationships where both people feel safe enough to be authentic. This conversation is an invitation to look at relationships through a different lens: not simply as something we have, but as something that can teach us, awaken us, and help us grow.If you're looking to create healthier relationships, deepen intimacy, understand your patterns, or grow alongside the person you love, this episode offers plenty of wisdom, reflection, and practical insight.Join me and Mike Elliott as we explore healthy relationships, soul-level growth, the relationship mirror, nervous system safety, regulation, and the deeper path to true intimacy and connection.Connect with Mike:Instagram: @mikeelliott.relatingWebsite: www.itsmikeelliott.comConnect with me:Instagram: @Pam_RoccaTik Tok: @Pam_RoccaWebsite: www.pamrocca.comWork with me:Book a Free 15-minute Clarity Call:https://calendly.com/divinehealth/15minBook an Initial Consultation: https://calendly.com/divinehealth/90minIntuitive Oracle Reading: https://calendly.com/divinehealth/60-minute-intuitive-oracle-card-readingIntuitive Reiki Session or Distance Reiki Session:https://calendly.com/divinehealth/in-person-intuitive-reiki-healing-session-60-minsEnergy Work Sessions - Energy Healing: https://calendly.com/divinehealth/energy-healing-sessionSoul and Transformation Coaching: https://calendly.com/divinehealth/3-month-coaching-packageIf you enjoyed this episode, please let me know so I can create more of the content you love. When I first sat down with special guest Mike Elliott, a fellow Relationship Expert, on this week's Soul Sovereignty Podcast, I thought we were going to talk about masculine energy and what polarity dynamics look like in relationships (and we did). However, the conversation ended up being a lot more about How to Maintain Turn-On and Intimacy in Relationships.I think you're gonna love it.
