My guest for Episode #166 is a daughter, a fiancée, a mother, and an artist. She has a tremendous aura about her. She's been blessed with compassion, intelligence, talent, determination, fantastic conversational skills, and she has boldly faced that which life has dealt her.Her name is Morgen Agesen, and she deserves steadfast applause for being an awesome human being. As Executive Assistant for Art Garden KC, Lead Designer for Worlds of Fun, and In-House Muralist for Vignettes Bar, Morgen still manages to find time for her own work, and on top of all that, she made a hearty trek to my place for a healthy chunk of one of her Saturdays, leaving me both impressed and grateful. We talked growing up, family, moving, navigating both the rocky seas and consistency of curve balls that life often presents, as well as both the creation and the vending of art. We talked about the coolness behind the purpose of such a thing as Art Garden KC (artgardenkc.org & @artgardenkc on the Socials), and it wouldn't've been a proper episode of Badass Records if we didn't have a peek at a few of her favorite records. So, we did, and those were these:Jagged Little Pill (1995), Alanis MorissetteGorillaz' Demon Days (2005)Alopecia (2008), Why?Fiona Apple's The Idler Wheel... (2012)While I'm happy that you have read this far (and I don't want you to quit now), I'd be tickled if you considered giving our conversation a view or a listen. But beyond that, please give Art Garden KC a follow (or at least a look-see). They are a fascinating source for facilitating popup markets and festivals in a way that joins artists and vendors with the community, and I can't speak loud enough to the importance of having such an organization in our midst right here in Kansas City. So, please use them. Consider them. Know about them. Share about them.Thank you for supporting the progrum.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained within this episode. Our U.S. Open series of podcasts continues this week with Angela Moser. She was the lead designer of Pinehurst No. 10, the resort's newest golf course in nearly three decades. While Tom Doak receives credit as the main designer, Moser played a daily and intricate role in building and shaping the course which opened in April to rave reviews. Moser is immensely talented as a landscape architect and golf course designer but does so in a male-dominated industry. Originally from Germany, Moser has traveled the world under Doak's guidance for more than 10 years and has more than earned the respect of her boss and her peers. Noah and Alli Hutchison met during their college years at Baylor, and grew a friendship through their shared involvement in a church community - Antioch Waco. Alli started doing interior design work for friends and their friends soon after college, and eventually they worked in church ministry, with Noah as the Childrens & Family Director. They moved to Fort Collins in 2015 where Noah was the Executive Director for Antioch Fort Collins - basically leading the administrative function to allow the Pastors to focus on service and teaching. I first heard about Noah when he ran for city council in Fort Collins in 2019 as a relative newcomer to town - and fell just short. Their season in ministry with Antioch ended about the same time, and Noah and Alli both went to work in construction, with Noah first as CFO and later President of Mighty Hand Construction, and Alli as Lead Designer - and only for a few seasons. Hutch Design Build was launched in April of 2022, and has already grown to a team of 7! Hutch Design Build offers design-first custom solutions for major remodels and additions, accessory dwelling units, and full-custom family homes - and as of a few days before this conversation Noah and Alli have secured the longtime coffee house location The Bean Cycle in Old Town Fort Collins - and have some amazing plans for the space. You'll have to tune in to hear about those plans, and also to get to know an amazing couple, using their shared strengths to make client's home and family dreams come true! So please enjoy, as I did, my conversation with Noah and Alli Hutchison. The LoCo Experience Podcast is sponsored by: Logistics Co-op | https://logisticscoop.com/

With the growth in popularity around permaculture and food forests, even people without access to their own land are looking into opportunities to come together and create beautiful edible landscapes that everyone can access on public land. Enter community orchards or food forests. These are increasingly being grown on abandoned lots, local parks, or forgotten strips of land that caring neighbors take interest in and decide to grow perennial food and medicine crops on. Yet as the number of people involved grows, and the need to conform to regulations and permit processes, many people can get lost in the complexities during the attempt. To help me better understand these challenges and opportunities, I reached out to Jessica Robertson in Canada who has helped design and install a number of community food forests and helped to illuminate the process from her experience. Jessica is the Owner, Designer, and Head Grunt at Wild Craft Permaculture and a Lead Designer at United Designers International. Jessica has designed holistic permaculture systems for spaces from 200 sq. ft. to 200-acres and works on residential, commercial, and public projects. She is often involved in the implementation of these designs and loves sharing her knowledge with clients as they work alongside each other. She brings a background in biology, education, silviculture and urban planning to her work. In this episode, Jessica shares insights from decades of experience in the permaculture world, showing how people from all walks of life can reconnect with the earth in deeper and more active ways. We'll also work carefully through the process of designing, setting up, and keeping up with community food forests, including things people often forget about and realistic expectations for maintenance. And to top it off, we'll give you some easy steps to create your own successful community food forest right in your own neighborhood.
