Protestantism is built upon "Five Solas." "Sola" is Latin for "alone," and so the battle cry of the Reformation became: Sola Scriptura ("Scripture Alone"), Sola Fide ("Faith Alone"), Sola Gratia ("Grace Alone"), Solus Christus ("Christ Alone"), Soli Deo Gloria ("Glory to God Alone"). The Reformers intended these to be a refutation of Catholicism, and Protestant apologists today think of them as Kryptonite to the Catholic Church. But in this conversation from a few years ago, Greg and Cory take them on one-by-one. Support this ministry so more people can consider Catholicism! Chad Cunningham continues our series on the five solas focusing on Sola Gratia (Grace alone).

Solas of the Reformation- Sola Gratia -Grace Alone- - Pastor Henry Johnson
Solas of the Reformation: Sola Gratia (Grace Alone) - Pastor Henry Johnson
Andy Moore delivers the message at Restoration Community Church. He continues a series looking at the five solas, the primary theological statements of the Reformation. The fourth statement is sola gratia: grace alone. Passages: Ephesians 2:8-9
This is the fourth in a series of talks on the solas of the Reformation. This talk discusses the semi-Pelagian controversy and the Council of Orange, and how that connects to the Lutheran Reformation.
What does Martin Luther, Rick Hale, and Bing Crosby have in common? Not only are all three good looking and smell nice, people pay attention to what they have to say at Christmas! With apologies to Bing, Rick borrows from the famous Latin phrases of the Reformers to frame Christmas in its purity: Sola Fide: Faith Alone; Sola Gratia: Grace Alone; Sola Scriptura: Scripture Alone, and this week: Sola Christus: Christ Alone. It seems obvious, doesn't it? Don't we sing about it? "Joy to the World the Savior reigns ..." or "O come let us adore him Christ the Lord ... " or "Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today ..."? French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal gave us a warning: "Truth is so obscure in these times, and falsehood so established, that, unless we love the truth, we cannot know it." Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 2 important truths: grace means 1) God is Good 2) We are not Romans 3:10-12, “as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” 1) What is Grace? 2) Why do I need Grace? Apart from the grace of God, we were … * So dead that only God can make us alive- Ephesians 2:1, 4-5 * So blind that only God could give us sight - 2 Corinthians 4:4,6 * So sinful that only God could cleanse us -Psalm 51:5, 7 * So heart sick only God can heal us - Jeremiah 17:9,14 * So lost that only God could find & save us -Luke 19:10 * So helpless that only God could change us - Jeremiah 13:23 3) What difference does GRACE make? * GRACE destroys all human self-confidence. - Romans 3:23 * GRACE frees us from earning God's favor. - Romans 3:24 * GRACE enables us to serve God without fear. - Romans 3:25 “Rock of Ages” - Nothing in my hands I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling; Naked, come to Thee for dress, Helpless, look to Thee for grace: Foul, I to the fountain fly, Wash me, Savior, or I die. "Grace Greater Than Our Sin” Grace, grace, God's grace, Grace that will pardon and cleanse within Grace, grace, God's grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin VERSE 3 Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace, Freely bestowed on all who believe, All who are longing to see His face, Will you this moment His grace receive?
Ephesians 2:1-10
Be thankful for the grace—and the grace alone—that has covered your past, empowers and protects your present, & guarantees your future.

Sola Scriptura - Scripture alone - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 The Five Solas: 1. Sola Scriptura = Scripture Alone 2. Solus Christus = Christ Alone 3. Sola Gratia = Grace Alone 4. Sola Fide = Faith Alone 5. Soli Deo Gloria = To the Glory of God Alone Sola Scriptura – Defined Baptist Faith and Message I. The Scriptures - The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” This was Martin Luther's conviction - Consider 1517, 1519, 1521 October 31, 1517 - 95 Theses nailed to Wittenberg Church door July 4, 1519 - June and July - Luther and Eck Debate in Leipzig April 16-18, 1521 - The Diet of Worms Sola Scriptura – Directs Directs our worship Directs our preaching and teaching Directs our love for one another Directs our missions and evangelism Directs our stewardship of time, talents, and treasure Directs our spiritual disciplines like prayer, scripture engagement, fasting, etc Directs our church purpose, polity, and practices The Bible is more than merely descriptive, it is prescriptive and instructive Sola Scriptura - Declares It puts the PRO in PROTEST and the PROTEST in PROTESTANT Pro = for Protest = usually used as against but actually means “to make solemn declaration or affirmation of” Many have heard what the church is against... BUT what is the church FOR? WE MUST BE FOR WHAT THE BIBLE IS FOR! * We are for the repentance of all people and the regeneration that comes by faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is found ONLY in Jesus - He is the way, truth, and life * We are for a healthy, biblical church designed as He commanded! * We are for unity between people of different backgrounds, nationalities, skin colors, and languages under the truth of Christ * We are for LIFE, from the womb until the tomb, because life is God's gift! * We are for healthy, biblical marriages between a husband and a wife! It is time to go back to the simple truth taught in the children's songs “The B-I-B-L-E, Yes That's the book for me. I stand alone on the Word of God, the B-I-B-L-E.” “Jesus loves this I know…. For the Bible tells me so!”

Speaker: Pastor Giles Litzner As our justification is by faith and not works, so it is by grace and not merit. There was nothing desirable in us that forced the Father's hand or tipped the scales in our favor. When we were at our worst, He chose us. When we wanted nothing to do with Him, He loved us. When we were completely helpless, He rescued us for Himself (Eph. 2:1-3; Rom. 5:6-11). This was His choice to adopt us on the basis of His goodness, not ours. As a result of His purpose, plan, and choice, we are truly “blessed in the Beloved” (Eph.1:6). Our desire in this study is to consider the magnitude and significance of GRACE ALONE.

Yours in Christ: Pastoral Letters from Resurrection, State College
Welcome to Yours in Christ, Pastoral Letters from Resurrection in State College, Pennsylvania. I'm Pastor Zach Simmons, and this is letter number 36, “Sola Gratia: Grace Alone.” This is the first in a series on the five “solas” of the Reformation leading up to Reformation Day on October 31st—the five hundred and fourth anniversary of Martin Luther nailing his ninety-five theses to the church door of Wittenberg in 1517. To read this letter, visit https://resurrectionopc.org/sola-gratia-grace-alone/. For more Yours in Christ installments, go to resurrectionopc.org/letters.
The doctrine of grace is important for protecting God's initiative - He reaches out to us and gives us everything we need to respond to Him. Everything Christ is and did was sufficient to pay for sin and human inability in salvation. There is nothing any human can do to earn salvation at all. Ever. Grace: It is primarily described as being ‘in Christ' and ‘through faith'.Episode Notes:https://www.catholic.com/tract/grace-what-it-is-and-what-it-does (Fair warning - we reference this article because its wrong)Luke 15:11–32 - Prodigal Son ParableTim Keller The Prodigal GodGrace Alone - Kings Kaleidoscope **** CORRECTION - originally written by Dustin Kensrue
Salvation is Not a Human Achievement (Romans 3:23) Grace is the Cause of Salvation (Romans 5:8) God's Grace to Man is in Christ (Philippians 2:6-11)
Karma says we get what we deserve—do good and you'll get good in return, be a selfish jerk and somehow the universe will find a way to crush you. Grace isn't like that at all. Grace is a completely unique Jesus idea. Grace says we get what we don't deserve—we get life, blessing, hope and all of God's love. We don't get what we deserve, we get what Jesus deserves—just because He says so. Grace awakens grace. Ephesians 2:1-10
Grace is sheer gift. To say that we are saved by ‘grace alone' is to admit the humbling reality that God owes us nothing (except just punishment for sin), and yet in Christ lavishes the undeserving with the immeasurable riches of His kindness! Not because of anything admirable about us or any good work done by us, but because of Jesus' work on the cross for us. It can never be earned, only received as a gift.
