Send us a textThis episode kicks off a six-part series on the Five Solas—five essential truths that fueled the Protestant Reformation and still shape our faith today. Pete Alwinson and Jayson Quiñones set the stage by diving into the historical and spiritual context that gave rise to these bold declarations: Scripture Alone, Faith Alone, Grace Alone, Christ Alone, and To the Glory of God Alone. Before we explore each Sola in-depth over the next five episodes, this conversation lays the theological and historical groundwork. From the corruption of the medieval church to Martin Luther's radical stand for biblical truth, this episode helps men understand why the Solas matter—and how they call us to live as men of conviction today. Whether you've never heard of the Five Solas or just need a refresher, this is where it all begins.
Today, pastor Ray Bentley highlights the message of James to a generation facing great temptation. Since we are God's children and he is content gingerly showering us with gifts from the perfection of his throne. Why should evil have even the slightest attraction for us? So take temptation. Can't get to the curb and walk into the light of the glory of God.
[Micah 7:14-20] The more we know God's character, the more we will trust God's actions

Pastor Ray Bentley with insight today on our times of testing. Every child of God has a unique path that is designed by God to bring you into areas where you will be tested. He tests us to let us know what's really in our hearts or what areas need to be worked on. He does not test us so that he can find out what's in our hearts.

The most important question in the world is the question of how people get saved. The question of exactly how it is that sinful humans can become right with a holy God. On this question hangs the eternal destiny of every person. In this passage in Ephesians 2:8-9, the Apostle Paul lays out some of the most foundational truths of the gospel message that set Christianity apart from every other religion and belief system in the world. In every other religion and every false gospel man is saved by something that is in himself, but the true gospel is different. The true gospel is a gospel of salvation by grace through faith, which, "is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." The beautiful outcome of the true gospel message, which once again sets it apart from everything else, is that God has orchestrated in such a way that "no one may boast." That is, instead of salvation that is accomplished through human effort and and human merit, and that would result in the praise of humanity, the true Gospel brings a salvation that is entirely by the grace of God and so completely abounds for His glory. True salvation is accomplished by the grace of God alone and for the glory of God alone! This message was originally preached by Jackson Hankey at River City Church on Thursday, 6/5/2025.
Psalm 62 teaches us not to waste our waiting, but to find purpose in the seasons and situations where we are called to wait upon God. Here we find King David enrolled in the school of waiting: learning to trust, rest, and hope in the Lord. The title of our sermon is drawn from the heading in the ESV translation, “My Soul Waits for God Alone.”

Find Rest in God Alone | Psalms 131 and 62 Psalm 131 1 My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. 2 But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. 3 Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore. Psalm 62:5-8 5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. 6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. 7 My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. 8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Send us a textRest for the Restless Soul – Finding Peace in God AloneHave you ever felt that gnawing restlessness deep in your soul—the kind that no amount of scrolling, spending, or socializing seems to satisfy? David understood this struggle, and in Psalm 62:1 declared, “My soul finds rest in God alone.”In this powerful episode, we dive into the revolutionary truth that lasting peace cannot be found in social media feeds, financial gain, personal success, or even religious activity. Our soul's deepest need is met only in the presence and person of God.This message uncovers the emptiness of external validation and leads us back to the one source that truly satisfies: a living, growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Through Scripture and practical insight, you'll be encouraged to realign your focus from the temporary to the eternal.Even more striking is the perspective shared on obstacles and opposition. Instead of seeing trials and enemies as setbacks, this episode teaches that they are stepping stones to your God-given purpose. Just as Jesus used the cross—an instrument of torment—to secure eternal victory, God is using the pressure in your life to elevate you, not crush you. You'll be reminded that the enemy is not above you—he is under your feet. And no matter what you're walking through, you're not sinking—you're standing on solid, divine ground.Whether you're battling depression, anxiety, illness, fear, or relational brokenness, this message offers a holy perspective shift. The show this time is Part 2 of The Great Engineers sequence, music to showcase the work of some of the producers and engineers who contributed to the progressive rock sound. In our latest episode of the Amen podcast, we explored a profound truth from Matthew 22:15-22 – the story of Jesus and the denarius. While this passage is often discussed in terms of taxes and civic duty, there's a deeper message about finding true contentment and joy in God.The Missing DenariusOne detail that often gets overlooked is that Jesus didn't have a denarius when asked about taxes. He had to request one from his challengers. This wasn't because He was making a statement against money or government – He was practical enough to tell people to pay their taxes. Rather, it revealed something beautiful about His relationship with God: Jesus was supremely happy and content despite owning very little.Understanding True DelightThis brings us to Psalm 37:4: "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Many interpret this verse as a formula: if we're happy in God, He'll give us what we want. But the truth is more profound – when we truly delight in God, what we want changes. The desire of our new heart becomes God Himself.Consider Abraham's story. He wanted a son for years, and God blessed him with Isaac. But when God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, it revealed that Abraham's true desire wasn't just for a son – it was for God Himself. Similarly, Jesus showed us that true wealth isn't found in denarii, but in delighting in the Father's will.Living Simply and QuietlyThis understanding transforms how we view success and contentment. When we're truly delighting in God:* We stop measuring our worth by cultural standards* We find freedom in living simply* We realize we may already have everything we need* Our focus shifts from accumulating more to enjoying God morePractical ApplicationHow can we cultivate this delight in God? Here are some insights from our discussion:* Embrace Imperfect Moments: Your quiet time doesn't have to be perfect or even quiet. God meets us in the mess of daily life.* Use Technology Wisely: Don't feel guilty about using tools that help you create space for God, whether it's noise-canceling headphones or appropriate entertainment for your children while you pray.* Start Your Day with God: There's only one opportunity each day to start with God. While you can exercise or work later, that first moment with God is precious.* Remember You Already Have Him: If you're a believer, you don't need to change everything to delight in God. Often, it's just about enjoying what – and Who – you already have.A New Perspective on God's GiftsSometimes God gives us responsibilities or roles we wouldn't have chosen for ourselves. These aren't burdens meant to diminish our joy – they're opportunities to experience more of Him. Whether it's parenthood, a challenging job, or an unexpected ministry, these can become pathways to deeper delight in God.ConclusionTrue delight isn't found in having more denarii in our pockets or achieving cultural success. It's found in God Himself. As we learn to delight in Him, we often discover that we already have everything we truly need. This is a public episode.
