Protestantism is built upon "Five Solas." "Sola" is Latin for "alone," and so the battle cry of the Reformation became: Sola Scriptura ("Scripture Alone"), Sola Fide ("Faith Alone"), Sola Gratia ("Grace Alone"), Solus Christus ("Christ Alone"), Soli Deo Gloria ("Glory to God Alone"). The Reformers intended these to be a refutation of Catholicism, and Protestant apologists today think of them as Kryptonite to the Catholic Church. But in this conversation from a few years ago, Greg and Cory take them on one-by-one. Support this ministry so more people can consider Catholicism! Soli Deo gloria is the motto that grew out of the Protestant Reformation and was used on every composition by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel with the letters “SDG” Romans 11:36, “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” We may often use the phrase glory of God, but what does it mean? The glory of God is the holiness of God put on display that arrests our attention and our allegiance. That is, it is the infinite worth of God made manifest. John Piper, “God's glory is the outward radiance of the intrinsic beauty and greatness of His manifold perfections.” The joy of the Christian life is in Seeing & Savoring His glory 1) We see God's glory in His worth Isa 6:3, John 17:5 Was Jesus' lacking glory? No… Phil 2:6-7 2) We see God's glory in His works 2 Thess 1:9, Psalm 19:1, Ephesians 1:6, Psalm 21:5 Seeing His glory & Savoring His glory! Ralph D. Winter (Missiologist) “The great sin of the world is not that the human race has failed to work for God so as to increase his glory, but that we have failed to delight in God so as to reflect his glory.” 1) We savor God's glory in our desire 1 Cor 10:31, Isaiah 43:7 “Theologians of glory” and “Theologians of the cross” “Theologians of glory” seek power FROM God to become great-known-strong (Philippians 3:19) “Theologians of the cross” - Jn 3:30 Live as a Worshipper - Romans 12:1 1 Chronicles 16:10, Psalm 105:3, Philippians 3:3, Philippians 4:19, 1 Peter 5:10 2) We savor God's glory in our declaration - Ps 96:1-3, Isaiah 66:18-19, Matthew 5:16 3) We savor God's glory in our destination Colossians 3:4, Romans 5:2, Jude 24, Romans 8:18 David Livingstone (Scottish physician and pioneer Christian missionary) “Anxiety, sickness, suffering, or danger, now and then, with a foregoing of the common conveniences and charities of this life, may make us pause, and cause the spirit to waver, and the soul to sink; but let this be only for a moment. All these are nothing when compared with the glory which shall hereafter be revealed in, and for, us.” Do you see His glory? - Do you savor His glory?

Soli Deo Gloria (Glory to God Alone) // 1 Corinthians 10:31 // Pastor Larry Adams
God has created us and rightly deserves glory and worship from us; that's what we're made for. We exist to reflect glory and there is glory we can enjoy, but there is only one worthy of highest glory. Christ is the pinnacle of God's glory.
God's beauty and love shine brightest in His work of salvation, which leads the redeemed to praise Him for His glorious grace!
Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church's Sunday Sermons. Ephesians 1:3-14 Soli Deo Gloria: Glory to God Alone" Rev. Billy Park
2 Corinthians 4:1-15
Rev. Edwin Gonzalez-Gertz
Only God exists eternally glorious, holy, incomprehensibly beautiful, mighty and majestic; and none of His glory was given to him. God alone deserves our worship and our awe. All glory is due His name.
God has designed the Gospel so that he alone receives glory
Soli Deo gloria emphasizes the glory of God as the goal of life. Rather than striving to please church leaders, keep a list of rules, or guard our own interests, our goal is to glorify the Lord. The idea of soli Deo gloria is found in 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
We're not very good at glorifying God. Let me help you understand why it's so important to give glory to God alone, and offer a few suggestions on how to do it. Psalm 96

Soli Deo Gloria: Glory to God alone.
Glory is often a misunderstood attribute of God. It is important, I think we all know that, but what is it and why should it be for God alone? If we take a look at our lives can we truly say that God get's all the glory or are we trying to take some or all of it from him? Discipleship Questions: 1. What do you think glory is? 2. Why is God unwilling to share his glory? 3. In what way have you operated as a ‘Theologian of Glory'? 4. How have you been changed to see things as a ‘Theologian of the Cross'? 5. When God is given his glory how do you feel?

Phil Johnson preaches on the sola of "sola deo gloria" (glory to God alone) at Summerfest.
Soli Deo Gloria declares the main theme of all the “Solas”- that God has done all the work of faith, grace, Christ, and Scripture - so all glory is due to him, not us. He has chosen and blessed us, not because of anything we have done, but because of who He is. As we come to understand God's unconditional love for us, we are moved to obedience, worship, and evangelism out of a thankful heart.

More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
"You're making this into a bigger deal than it needs to be." How many times have I either been on the giving OR receiving end of this statement? That's what it means to magnify a situation. We make something appear larger than it is. The thing is, we will NEVER be able to "over-magnify" God. There is never a time where we will fully understand how "large" He is. The power comes in when we magnify God over our situation. This is what the song, "Magnify" by We Are Messengers calls us to do. Let's head over to Psalm 34 and magnify the Lord together. I want to realign where my hope is set until He's all that's left. On this episode I discuss: How the word "magnify" in our song led me to Psalm 34:3 The theme of the episode is to magnify God, focusing in on Him alone NOT our troubles When we magnify God we increase the importance or effect of Him in our lives When John the Baptist talks about decreasing so Christ could increase - John 3:30 Setting aside our "What's In It For Me" nature and replacing it with Soli Deo Gloria -- Glory to God Alone Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture - our Bible Interaction Tool Exercises this week are: Read in context Make a list Follow the cross reference Complete a word study Focusing on making a list of all of the characteristics and ways of God found in Psalm 34...leaving out all other details A great prophecy tucked into this Psalm that was fulfilled in the death of Jesus, and its significance Magnifying God so that we can no longer see our afflictions Replacing lies with God's true character Additional Resources Lyrics This Week's Challenge Read Psalm 34 all the way through at least once. Then go back through the entire Psalm and take the extra step to write out the descriptions of God that you see. If you're really bold, mark in your Bible! Underline or circle the descriptions of God. If one of the characteristics you are magnifying pricks your spirit and uncovers a lie, write that verse out on a sticky note and replace the lie with the truth daily. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Teachings from Lakeside Presbyterian Church EPC, Brandon, MS
Teachings from Lakeside Presbyterian Church EPC, Brandon, MS
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV) We have some weird phrases as Christians. These phrases make sense to us - sorta. If we don’t understand them, we still all nod like we all get it. One that I always wonder about is when people talk or ask me about my "call to the ministry." You almost get the feeling as if being a pastor is so different, so set-apart, so sacred, that in order to get into this special club, you need a divine invitation. You need to hear God audibly tell you or have a message written in the sky for you. I wonder sometimes if we talk this way because we don’t really understand the final Sola, Soli Deo Gloria or Glory to God Alone. In this series, we have been examining these five Latin phrases that formed the core of the Protestant Reformation nearly 500 years ago. The last of these phrases directs us to praise and boast in the one that has initiated, accomplished, and completed our salvation - God Alone. This week we will dig into this idea. I’d encourage you to read through the close of Romans 11 (specifically verses 33-35) to see Paul expand this idea. I also want to encourage you to be giving out invitations to family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors for the upcoming Easter weekend. This is a great opportunity to invite someone to come with you to explore the life, death, and resurrection of Christ and its significance in our lives. It’s gonna be a great weekend.
