The Solo Hunter, Tim Burnett, joins us on this episode. The topics we cover with Tim are far-ranging, and move well beyond what you might expect. We collected numerous listener questions for Tim before this show, and those questions focused primarily around advice for hunting solo, some aspects of filming hunts, and more general hunting tactics. But this conversation goes well beyond those topics and is sure to give you something to think about. Learn more at http://ExoMountainGear.com/podcast
We get stuck straight in with the first hand account of a of a bear attack from Remi Warren, known from his appearances in Solo Hunter and Meat Eater with Steve Rinella. A fascinating guy, he has packed in an astonishing amount of experience for a young man. From his early beginnings to the rise of shed hunting, backpack recommendations and the way hunters use brand endorsement, it is a varied discussion from a true hard core hunter.
Today on Gritty, I am joined by Tim Burnett, aka SOLO HUNTER and we talk about branding, marketing and business. Tim and I are in the business of content creation and so our branding and marketing discussion leans that direction. I really like Tim--he’s got a “what you see is what you get” personality that I find refreshing. And he doesn’t over complicate things--words like, “don’t be a jackass” are pretty easy to comprehend. Nonetheless, in classic fashion, I ask him to elaborate on the “jackass” statement just to be sure I fully understand it. I ask Tim how Solo started. What’s the biggest mistake people make when creating a brand name. We talk about our objectives when we create content. And we talk about the importance of good business partners and how you know whether you have a good one or not. We agree that media consumption habits differ greatly from platform to platform, for example., from TV to FB to Instagram to Youtube to Twitter--and people have preferred platforms. We discuss the differences between platforms and we share our thoughts on how our messaging differs from platform to platform. This isn’t all we talk about, but this intro gives you a good idea of what this show is about. I hope you find this episode helpful. In today’s world, nearly everyone is a content creator of some sort. So I don’t believe this episode is just for those trying to build a brand per se. This episode can help those who are actively involved in promoting the hunting life, conservation and life values. Finally, please know that Tim and I are by no means experts in marketing or content creation--we just know what has worked for us and we share it on this podcast. For those who want to learn more about these topics, I recommend that you read the following books: The Thank You Economy, Crush It, and Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk. And for those wanting to start a new career and chase a more meaningful job, check-out the book START, by Jon Acuff. In this book, “Jon Explores the five stages every life goes through on the path to awesome and looks at what it takes to punch fear in the face, escape average and do work that matters.”

Weekend hunting recap, why hunts are so engaging, how describing the experience is impossible and why we should change the definition of "average."

If you don’t like the show, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. Solo Hunter is Gritty. The raw, Do It Yourself Nature of the show really appeals to me. In the show, Tim and Remi Warren are both the hunter AND the cameraman. That’s intense. I can barely film a hunt when we’ve got a full-time cameraman--I can’t even imagine trying to pull it off while trying to shoot an animal. Tim was easy to talk to. And he’s pretty much the same guy you see on the show--real gritty and down to earth. http://solohntr.com
Hunting alone can be rewarding, challenging, and humbling. You'd think that having your own film crew to film your hunts, if you were making a living at it, would be the way to go. But not for Tim Burnett or Remi Warren. Tim started the concept of his television show SOLO HUNTER long before the television show even existed. If fact, if it weren't for Tim having filmed a few of his hunts of himself by himself, SOLO HUNTER TV wouldn't exist today. Turns out he needed all of his film work in a pinch (when another show collapsed from failed funding). Today Tim continues to hunt on his own, film on his own, produce on his own, negotiate contracts with television executives on his own, you get the picture. Tim is the Solo Hunter and this is his story.... TUNE INTO THE FULL EPISODE HERE: www.BigBuckRegistry.com/solo

Welcome back, my Degenerate Angels! At this point all of you are highly aware of my obsession with Hunter Biden - not only for his dashing good looks and love of sex and drugs, but because his trials & tribulations make him one of the few genuinely relatable public figures left. I dive deeeeep into his tumultuous drug and relationship history and what he represents about America's attitude towards addiction...and then, get even deeper into why learning about his story has encouraged me to quit drinking...for now...again...for the 50th time. Please share with anyone you think would appreciate this episode! Love letters?
