In this powerful episode of The MisFitNation, host Rich LaMonica welcomes U.S. Navy Veteran and former Navy SEAL Matt Maasdam for a deep conversation on leadership, service, and decision-making at the highest levels. Matt served over 20 years in the U.S. Navy, deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and the Pacific, operating in some of the most dangerous environments in the world to disrupt terrorist networks and protect American lives. His exceptional leadership led him to the White House, where he was selected to serve as President Barack Obama's Military Aide, carrying the nuclear football—the briefcase containing the tools required for the President to respond to catastrophic threats. After transitioning from military service, Matt brought his mission-first mindset into the private sector, leading a 2,000-person team at Under Armour, proving that elite leadership principles transcend uniforms. This episode explores combat leadership, national-level responsibility, high-stakes decision-making, and how to lead with integrity in both military and civilian life.

Sarah Deeb, along with her sister Maysoun, launched Womensfitsauga in 2020 to get more women moving together in a social, supportive space - and to become the role models they wished they had had growing up in sport. The journey hasn't been without bumps (looking at you, COVID), but every pivot they had to make and new activity they had to try helped shape the dynamic, welcoming run space they have today. Sarah's outlook on showing up as you are and moving together reminds me of my favourite run quote from the amazing Alexi Pappas: "Running is a team sport masked as an individual sport". Leslie welcomes back Scott Paul, President of the Alliance for American Manufacturing, for a preview of the newly released 2025 'Made in America Holiday Gift Guide.' (link: https://www.americanmanufacturing.org/blog/the-2025-made-in-america-holiday-gift-guide/) This year's guide makes it easier than ever for shoppers to find U.S.-made products and support American workers this holiday season. New polling released with the Gift Guide shows overwhelming demand for locally made goods, with 81% of Americans saying they're as likely or more likely to buy American-made products this year. The vast majority (83%) of shoppers say they would buy more Made in USA goods if these products were more widely available. The Gift Guide bridges that gap, connecting consumers with the craftsmanship, quality and well-paid jobs that come from buying Made in America. In its 12th year, the 2025 Guide features 148 manufacturers and makers from across all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. There's an American-made gift for everyone, with finds ranging from model airplane kits and stocking stuffers to jewelry and grills. Shoppers can browse the guide by state or product category, and a new segment this year highlights brick-and-mortar stores specializing in state-made goods for in-person shopping. Additionally, AAM's Made in America Directory spotlights 873 companies and their products that are not featured in this year's Guide. Leslie and Scott highlight five of the companies and their gift offerings for just a taste of the guide. Here they are: 1 - WicR Have you always wanted to be a plant parent but were too scared you'd forget to water them every day? Fear no more: WicR is a self-watering product that makes it a lot easier. All you have to do is place the WicR at the bottom of your pot, cover it with soil, and place your plant in. Then, after an initial watering, the WicR will self-water your plant for seven to ten days. A game-changer for plant care! 2 - Alaska Glacial Essentials Skincare Alaska Glacial Essentials Skincare draws from its surrounding beauty in Cordova, Alaska, to enhance the quality of the products they make there. This company sources glacial minerals and botanicals for gentle but effective formulas, and all its products are vegan and cruelty-free. Its energy-efficient facility operates on 60-80% community hydropower, and the Certified B Corps company prides itself on a commitment to sustainability. Alaska Glacial Essentials Skincare donates 2% of its revenues to organizations that protect the Alaskan environment, such as the Copper River Watershed Project. 3 - Made-Plus Footwear The vast majority of footwear today is imported. But Alan Guyan, an alum of Under Armour's shoe division, saw an opportunity to do things differently. That's why he started Made+, a luxury athletic shoe brand based in Annapolis. All the shoes are made with 100% recycled yarn — and that yarn is made from repurposed plastic water bottles. These shoes come in all sorts of designs; they even sell shoes specially designed for pickleball. If you're looking to replace those athletic shoes, Made+ is an incredible choice. (And check out their in-person storefront if you're near Annapolis!) Lastly, be sure to check out AAM's blog post featuring Made+ from last month, where you can find on their website at AmericanManufacturing.org/blog 4 - High Strung Studios For the music lover on your list, High Strung Studios hits all the right notes. This woman-owned business transforms real guitar strings into beautiful, handcrafted jewelry made right here in the USA. Each bracelet, necklace, and pair of earrings carries a touch of rhythm and a whole lot of heart, making them perfect for anyone who finds joy in a good song. Thoughtful, unique, and full of holiday cheer, these gifts truly strike a chord. 5 - Cycle Dog Bring some wag-worthy joy to the holidays with Cycle Dog, a woman-owned company in Portland, making eco-friendly gear for dogs who love to play. Every collar, leash, toy and bed is crafted in the USA using recycled materials, keeping millions of inner tubes and bottles out of landfills. Durable, sustainable and made by a team of passionate makers (and their pups), these gifts are perfect for anyone who wants to spoil their dog, spread a little holiday cheer, and do good for the planet all at once. Lastly, Leslie and Scott talk about Project MFG. What's Project MFG? Think Top Chef — but for welders, machinists and engineers. Ray Dick, founder of Project MFG and creator of the YouTube reality show 'Clash of Trades,' is inspiring the next generation of manufacturers through hands-on competition and community engagement. AAM's website is AmericanManufacturing.org and their YouTube channel is youtube.com/@AmericanMfg (where you can watch episode's of AAM's podcast, "The Manufacturing Report") If you want to listen to episodes of "The Manufacturing Report," visit AmericanManufacturing.org/Podcast. Their handles on X and BlueSky are @KeepItMadeInUSA, and @keepitmadeinusa.bsky.social, respectively. Scott's handle on X is @ScottPaulAAM.

Welcome To The Real Oshow,0:00 Intro1:00 College Football NIT Tournament4:10 NBA Should Adopt a Loan System Like Soccer7:50 Steph Curry & Under Armour Split Up18:00 Closing Thoughts This week on The Real Oshow, brothers Joshua and Zachary break down why college football needs an NIT-style tournament to save bowl season and turn meaningless games into real win-and-advance matchups. Joshua is fully on board with the idea, while Zachary argues that nothing will change because star players will continue to opt out and top talent will remain in flux. They also dive into the NBA, adopting a European soccer-style loan system, debating whether teams should be allowed to loan players across the league while still maintaining their long-term rights. The deep dive of the week unpacks Steph Curry's split from Under Armour after his supposed lifelong deal worth more than three hundred million dollars. The brothers explain how Under Armour's tech bets collapsed, why both sides agreed to walk away, and why Under Armour is shifting back to its core identity instead of relying on superstar endorsements.Zachary believes this move signals a major shift in the sneaker industry, where brands may pull back from massive athlete contracts that no longer guarantee a return. The episode ends with a real question about Nike paying LeBron a billion dollars and whether any athlete-driven deal is truly worth the cost when brands could simply keep more profit in-house.Enjoy The Show, Check out our YouTube page - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoqz3s_B_VYHuQtuVIDxpiQTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@therealoshow?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pcTweet @zacharyowings2 with your thoughts about the podcast or suggestions for future shows.Music by Leno Tk - Greatness (Streaming on all platforms)

Summary In this insightful episode of the Chattinn Cyber podcast, host Marc Schein is chattin'with Ryan Steidl, a leading privacy and artificial intelligence attorney, to explore the evolving landscape of AI from a legal and cybersecurity perspective. Ryan shares his journey from Maryland to becoming a respected figure in data privacy and AI law, highlighting the influence of pioneering professors and his early work at Under Armour. He frames AI as an evolutionary technology that builds on existing data privacy and security issues but introduces new complexities due to limited human intervention in its processes. Their chat delves into the current regulatory environment surrounding AI in the United States, which Ryan describes as a patchwork of state laws with no comprehensive federal framework yet in place. He discusses the recent veto of Virginia's AI bill and the ongoing debate over a proposed federal moratorium on state AI legislation, emphasizing the tension between innovation and safety. Ryan also notes the role of federal agencies like the FTC and EEOC in shaping AI policy and how shifts in administration priorities—from safety to innovation—impact regulatory approaches. Ryan advises business leaders to focus on the purpose behind AI adoption, urging them to carefully assess use cases, data needs, and risk tolerance before allowing AI tools in their organizations. He stresses the importance of governance, recommending cross-functional oversight teams and clear ownership at multiple levels—from enterprise governance to tool implementation and output accountability. He also highlights the necessity of rigorous vetting and ongoing risk assessments to manage AI-related risks effectively. The chat further clarifies the distinctions between open-source AI models, public tools like ChatGPT, and private sandbox environments. Ryan warns against indiscriminate use of public AI models with sensitive data and advocates for controlled environments that offer greater security and customization. He also touches on emerging trends like synthetic data and regulatory sandboxes, which balance innovation with risk mitigation, citing Utah's AI lab as a pioneering example. Concluding on the topic of AI's impact on cyber risk, Ryan offers a nuanced view: AI can both help manage and exacerbate cyber risks depending on how it is used. He underscores the increasing complexity AI introduces and the critical role of human oversight in accountability and enforcement. Ryan predicts that insurers will push organizations toward proactive risk management rather than reactive responses, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring and anticipation of AI-related pitfalls. He closes by inviting listeners to access further resources and contact his team for guidance. Key Points AI as an Evolutionary Technology: AI builds on existing data privacy and security frameworks but introduces new challenges due to limited human intervention in its processes. Fragmented AI Regulation: The U.S. currently has a patchwork of state-level AI laws with no comprehensive federal legislation, complicated by political debates such as the proposed moratorium on state AI laws. Governance and Ownership: Effective AI adoption requires clear governance structures, cross-functional oversight, and defined ownership at multiple organizational levels. Risk Assessment and Documentation: Organizations must implement thorough vetting processes, conduct ongoing risk assessments, and maintain detailed documentation to demonstrate accountability and compliance. Safe AI Adoption Practices: Businesses should avoid using public AI models with sensitive data, favor sandbox or private instances, and consider synthetic data to mitigate privacy and compliance risks. Key Quotes "AI is more evolutionary than revolutionary, at least. It builds on a lot of topics that we're pretty familiar with, especially in cybersecurity."
Steph Curry is officially leaving Under Armour, ending one of the most surprising and influential athlete-brand partnerships in modern sports history. But how did a relationship that reshaped sneaker culture, revived an apparel company, and built a $173 million business line come undone? In this episode of Sportly, host Kavitha Davidson breaks down the full story from the now-infamous Nike meeting where executives called him “Stefan,” to Curry becoming the face of Under Armour, to the brand's recent struggles, and why analysts say UA “never understood sneaker culture.” We explore: The botched Nike pitch that pushed Curry toward Under Armour How Steph's signature shoes became a billion-dollar footwear engine Why Under Armour's leadership was seen as out of touch with basketball and hip-hop culture What Curry's move means for the future of the Curry Brand Whether we're entering a new athlete era where stars become owners, not endorsers like Serena Williams, Tom Brady, and Dwyane Wade.
