POPULARITY
Southern italian artist Simone Gatto ( owner of Out-Electronic Recordings / Out-ER ) versatile dj and composer, is an eclectic electronic music activist, specialized in music therapy, who finds into music a dynamic source of emotions, reminds and energy. Simone’s first contact with music was early in 2004 and since then, he’s been known for globe-trotting around the world to perform quality house and techno shows and managing his own label Out Electronic Recordings with his partner Andrea Santoro, releasing music from relevant house and techno artists like The Analogue Cops, Regen, Christopher Rau, Efdemin, Orlando Voorn, LaChriz, Conforce, Fabrizio Lapiana and many others. Simone has performed in clubs like :// about blank, Griessmuehle, Suicide Club OHM ( Berlin ), Output ( NYC ), Tempio del Futuro Perduto ( Milan ), Le Rouge Pigalle ( Paris ), Paradiso Noord ( Amsterdam ), showcasing a singular aesthetics united with a solid selection criterion. As a producer, he released his own works mostly on OUT-ER plus a restricted number of realities like Orlando Voorn’s Night Vision, Subwax BCN’s sub label Vosnos and Safari Electronique from Arnaud Le Texier, Souvenir Music and Sheik’N’Beik Records. The variety of experiences and musical stimuli has brought Gatto to research the music potential together with the Italian University San Raffaele on an ever-increasing scientific and emotional scale. The results have led to the organization of several seminars and workshops, organized throught Out Electronic Recordings and happening in between Italy, Germany and Holland, in which artists and music industry experts examine the relationship between sounds and emotions. The tangible findings and collected depositions will be put out on a book to be published in late 2017, where the personal path of the artist and the musical context he’s studied and lived, will be offered to the world of music enthusiasts. Simone’s world may serene, deep and sensitive at the same time – but it’s always been an intense place to enjoy. From the can of Pabst Blue Ribbon at your neighborhood bar to the moving sidewalks at Midway and O’Hare, so many products that we consume today made their debut at the 1893 World's Fair. Chicago Tribune business reporter Cori Shropshire talked to Russell Lewis, the executive vice president and chief historian at the Chicago History Museum, and Norm Bolotin, author of “The World's Columbian Exposition: The Chicago World's Fair of 1893,” to find out what products were showcased at the fair and the stories behind their creation. "From the Midway" is a production of the Chicago Tribune. It was created by digital news editor Colleen Connolly. Post-production editing was done by digital news editor Randi Shaffer. The music used in this podcast came from the album “Souvenir Music from the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893,” recorded by Lake Forest College.
The 1893 World's Fair is often discussed with pride and awe, but there were parts of it that were downright morally wrong by today's standards. The world villages on the Midway, the heart of the fair, are one example of this. Alaka Wali, curator of North American anthropology at the Field Museum, discusses who and what went into these displays and the evolution of the science of anthropology, which has its American roots in the Midway villages. Perhaps the most iconic invention of the 1893 World's Fair, the Ferris wheel was Chicago's answer to Paris' Eiffel Tower, which was built for that city's 1889 fair. Though now ubiquitous, there was just one Ferris wheel in the beginning, and it has a history that stretches back to Galesburg, Illinois. Paul Durica, co-author of “Chicago by Day and Night: The Pleasure-Seeker’s Guide to the Paris of America,” and Jim Ferris, the great-great-nephew of the Ferris wheel's inventor, tell the story of how it was invented and what happened to the original "Chicago Wheel.""From the Midway" is a production of the Chicago Tribune. The World's Columbian Exposition was held in Chicago 125 years ago. The event helped launch Chicago to international renown and bore countless innovations, many of which are still enjoyed throughout the world. For the first episode, Olivia Mahoney, senior curator at the Chicago History Museum, and Rebecca Graff, assistant professor of anthropology at Lake Forest College, discuss where the World's Fair lives on today. SIERRA SAM on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sierrasammusic SoundCloud: www.soundcloud.com/sierrasam HOW I MET THE BASS on: - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/howimetthebass - Twitter: https://twitter.com/howimetthebass - Mixcloud: https://www.mixcloud.com/HowIMetTheBass 3 QUESTIONS to SIERRA SAM: Q: You are a belgium guy and you moved to Berlin some years ago. Was it just because of music? A: I moved to Berlin for a job offer: I was label manager for Contexterrior / Tuning Spork for 3 years, I am still handling labels now (Souvenir Music and Etruria Beats) so it was for music in a way. Berlin totally changed my approach to production and I started "caring" more about a possible music career. Berlin is perfect for creativity and inspiration. Q: You played a lot of gigs in big and famous clubs. If you could choose 3 of them to play there again: which 3 will that be? A: It is very difficult to find 3 favorite places, there are way more than 3. I really enjoy my Watergate residency where I am allowed to invite a friend to jam with me live. It started with KiNK, then Dave Aju and now we are gonna play with Yapacc and then Tolga Fidan. Panorama Bar is obviously one of the top places in the world to play, as well as Analog Room Dubai: it is the opposite of the idea people have from Dubai: a real underground club with no VIP, great sound system, amazing resident deejays, awesome crowd. One of my favourite places. I couls also talk about Ipse, Katerblau, of course The Wood Brussels which is my home, Studio 22 in Liege, Baby Boa in Geneva, La Ruche Lausanne, Badaboum Paris ... there are so many places where I love to play. They are all different but they all have something special. Q: Following your productions there is a strong output on quality labels. What can we expect in 2015? A: The main project is a new label I start with my partner Pascal Hetzel. We work a lot on music seperately or together and we have so much material we believe in that we decided it was time launch our own imprint so we won´t be depending on A&R, release schedules... on top of that something will come on Upon. You , Best´s Friends, Watergate Rec plus a few remixes here and there.
