Another weekend has come and gone, with Chad Zumock sitting alone in his dark apartment, drinking himself to the point of being paralyzingly afraid of hitting the GO LIVE button on his little Playskool laptop. How many shows will the Mudshark do this week before the big Atlantic City meetup? How will Chad's big standup show - the one he's throwing to 'give back' and surprise people by 'doing something' in this stupid podcast world. We listen to Chad's own words describing how he thinks it will play out. We also take a look at Chad's origin story to find out exactly where this preppy peanut got too puffed up for his own good. PLUS Steel Toe Morning Show is back with Aaron Imholte and his lil buddy Johnny, and they're reading chats and cranking out no content better than anyone in Minnesota. ...
Psalm 112:7; "They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them." Psalm 34:4; "I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears." When we pursue His heart, He perfects ours. Storms expose whose hearts are built on sand and whose hearts are built on the Rock. Endeavoring to hear and obey God is the Master's instruction to us all in Matt 7:24-27. The devil will help you build a mansion as long as you build it upon sand. But even if you build a Playskool house on the Rock, it will endure any storm. A house standing in the midst of a tumultuous storm reveals a Bride being held by the foundation of her Bridegroom's love. We are His witnesses. On the night where Rosh Hashanah was ending and Florida being on the eve of a major Hurricane, we came together and lifted up a shout of deliverance. Joy & liberty shook the room as we gave Him all the glory! For More info on Gold Street Garden visit; https://linktr.ee/goldstreetgarden

We talk about a lot of immigrants in this podcast. There's the Hungarian mathemeticians and scientists that helped usher in the nuclear age and were pivotal in the early days of computing. There are the Germans who found a safe haven in the US following World War II. There are a number of Jewish immigrants who fled persecution, like Jack Tramiel - a Holocaust survivor who founded Commodore and later took the helm at Atari. An Wang immigrated from China to attend Harvard and stayed. And the list goes on and on. Georges Doriot, the father of venture capital came to the US from France in 1899, also to go to Harvard. We could even go back further and look at great thinkers like Nikolai Tesla who emigrated from the former Austrian empire. And then there's the fact that many Americans, and most of the greats in computer science, are immigrants if we go a generation or four back. Pierre Omidyar's parents were Iranian. They moved to Paris so his mom could get a doctorate in linguistics at the famous Sorbonne. While in Paris, his dad became a surgeon, and they had a son. They didn't move to the US to flee oppression but found opportunity in the new land, with his dad becoming a urologist at Johns Hopkins. He learned to program in high school and got paid to do it at a whopping 6 bucks an hour. Omidyar would go on to Tufts, where he wrote shareware to manage memory on a Mac. And then the University of California, Berkeley before going to work on the MacDraw team at Apple. He started a pen-computing company, then a little e-commerce company called eShop, which Microsoft bought. And then he ended up at General Magic in 1994. We did a dedicated episode on them - but supporting developers at a day job let him have a little side hustle building these newish web page things. In 1995, his girlfriend, who would become his wife, wanted to auction off (and buy) Pez dispensers online. So Omidyar, who'd been experimenting with e-commerce since eShop, built a little auction site. He called it auction web. But that was a little boring. They lived in the Bay Area around San Francisco and so he changed it to electronic Bay, or eBay for short. The first sale was a broken laser printer he had laying around that he originally posted for a dollar and after a week, went for $14.83. The site was hosted out of his house and when people started using the site, he needed to upgrade the plan. It was gonna' cost 8 times the original $30. So he started to charge a nominal fee to those running auctions. More people continued to sell things and he had to hire his first employee, Chris Agarpao. Within just a year they were doing millions of dollars of business. And this is when they hired Jeffrey Skoll to be the president of the company. By the end of 1997 they'd already done 2 million auctions and took $6.7 million in venture capital from Benchmark Capital. More people, more weird stuff. But no guns, drugs, booze, Nazi paraphernalia, or legal documents. And nothing that was against the law. They were growing fast and by 1998 brought in veteran executive Meg Whitman to be the CEO. She had been a VP of strategy at Disney, then the CEO of FTD, then a GM for Playskool before that. By then, eBay was making $4.7 million a year with 30 employees. Then came Beanie Babies. And excellent management. They perfected the online auction model, with new vendors coming into their space all the time, but never managing to unseat the giant. Over the years they made onboarding fast and secure. It took minutes to be able to sell and the sellers are the ones where the money is made with a transaction fee being charged per sale, in addition to a nominal percentage of the transaction. Executives flowed in from Disney, Pepsi, GM, and anywhere they were looking to expand. Under Whitman's tenure they weathered the storm of the dot com bubble bursting, grew from 30 to 15,000 employees, took the company to an IPO, bought PayPal, bought StubHub, and scaled the company up to handle over $8 billion in revenue. The IPO made Omidyar a billionaire. John Donahoe replaced Whitman in 2008 when she decided to make a run at politics, working on Romney and then McCain's campaigns. She then ran for the governor of California and lost. She came back to the corporate world taking on the CEO position at Hewlett-Packard. Under Donahoe they bought Skype, then sold it off. They bought part of Craigslist, then tried to develop a competing product. And finally sold off PayPal, which is now a public entity of its own right. Over the years since, revenues have gone up and down. Sometimes due to selling off companies like they did with PayPal and later with StubHub in 2019. They now sit at nearly $11 billion in revenues, over 13,000 employees, and are a mature business. There are still over 300,000 listings for Beanie Babies. And to the original inspiration over 50,000 listings for the word Pez. Omidyar has done well, growing his fortune to what Forbes estimated to be just over $13 billion dollars. Much of which he's pledged to give away during his lifetime, having joined the Bill Gates and Warren Buffet giving pledge. So far, he's given away well over a billion with a focus in education, governance, and citizen engagement. Oh and this will come as no surprise, helping fund consumer and mobile access to the Internet. Much of this giving is funneled through the Omidyar Network. The US just evacuated over 65,000 Afghans following the collapse of that government. Many an oppressive government runs off the educated, those who are sometimes capable of the most impactful dissent. Some of the best and most highly skilled of an entire society leaves a vacuum in regions that further causes a collapse. And yet finding a home in societies known for inclusion and opportunity, and being surrounded by inspiring stories of other immigrants who made a home and took advantage of opportunity. Or whose children could. Those melting pots in the history of science are when diversity of human and discipline combine to make society for everyone better. Even in the places they left behind. Anyone who's been to Hungary or Poland or Germany - places where people once fled - can see it in the street every time people touch a mobile device and are allowed to be whomever they want to be. Thank you to the immigrants, past and future, for joining us to create a better world. I look forward to welcoming the next wave with open arms.

Jack Allison stared up at the ceiling, wishing for death's sweet embrace. “Are you even listening?” Jack’s head snapped to attention, and he sat up a little straighter in his chair. His eyes trained once again on the woman in front of him. She was young, medium height and build, with brown hair and brown eyes. Just then a gust of wind swept through causing her “Warren 2020” campaign shirt to ruffle in the breeze, just as the “Ask Me about My Sanders” sign that was taped to the table between them caught a little air. “Yep—yes, I...Am.” managed Jack who cleared his throat and reluctantly awaited the rest. “Anyway it’s SO tragic that Liz dropped out I mean, I really-really wanted to see someone who looks like me up there, y’know?” Said the girl. Jack clucked his tongue to the roof of his mouth, “uh-huh...Now about Bernie—” “—And Bernie has like pretty good policies,” interrupted the girl, “but they were always like the Playskool version of Liz’s y’know like, he never talked about how he was going to do any of it, like where are the plans?” Jack’s jaw clenched. “And like,” She continued, “Liz always had plans she’s the only one who ever did any of the work!” Sweat streamed profusely from Jacks temples and a very pronounced vein revealed itself bulging on his neck. “Yah don’t say..” Jack said in that sort of raspy strain that denotes intense pain or concentration. “Yeah I mean like...Bernie is so old and white, and just...gross, no offense, but what is he even doing in the race? Like hello, it’s a woman's turn!” As if he had been in high heat for hours, Jack’s face was a splotchy red, his breath came through his nostrils like a steam train’s chug, and all the muscles in his face were stretched taut with effort.”I’ve...never..thought of it...like...that.” He said in a struggling squeaky register, and with what sounded like the stressing of a thousand rubber-bands, Jacks lips quirked up into a grimace of a smile. The girl took no notice of this gruesome display and continued.“And his supporters ugh! No offense, but they really turned me off to voting for him, y’know?” Suddenly the girl paused and arched a concerned eyebrow, “uh, are you okay?” He wasn’t. Jack's skin was so red now it appeared purple, and even more alarming he appeared to be... inflating. It was as if all the feelings he kept from leaving were acting as some kind of helium, stretching him out to his limits. “Just fine.” Jack squeaked, and the girl nodded slowly and continued, “That reminds me! Can we talk about Massachusetts? It was so misogynistic for Bernie too—” Jack exploded. Today’s episode features a highly informative discussion between our host, Christopher Lochhead and Jules Pieri. She’s the first designer to graduate from Harvard Business School. She shares some amazing lessons on how to create legendary new products and how to make sure those products succeed in the world. Industrial Designer Turned Legendary Marketer Fortune named Jules as one of the Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs." She is the Co-Founder and CEO of the product launch platform The Grommet. Jules shares that before she formed the company, she observed the huge shifts in technology — specifically the internet, like the development of 3D printing. 3D printing enabled a huge new class of entrepreneurs with physical products. “Creative people have access to inexpensive tools, they will use that. Physical products are less abstract than software, so they're gonna inspire more people to participate.” - Jules Pieri What We Can Learn From Squatty Potty Jules shares with Christopher the story behind the product Squatty Potty — a stool that raises the leg of the user during elimination. Christopher labeled the product as legendary because it created a new need for consumers. Jules admitted that it is often quite a challenge whenever they start a new category. She pointed out the importance for companies to be as bold as possible when launching a new product. “They hired a great agency to get the ads done and they had more vision and courage than most companies tend to have at the early stages. That's a super insecure stage of a company and they paid large money. Your reputation is aligned with these ads.” - Jules Pieri Category Creation Is a Must Jules remarked about the importance of category creation. She believes that it is very hard to cut through in a crowded world. She added that through The Grommet, they can create categories that enable them to study product searches of users. “Category search, ‘cause names are not usually as memorable as descriptions.” - Jules Pieri Christopher and Jules discussed more about Legendary Marketing, the differences between creating demand and capturing a demand. They also touch base on to have an invention and bring it to the world in a way that it would be connected, unique and distinct. Jules also shares some important parts of her great, new book out called How We Make Stuff Now. Bio: Jules Pieri is Co-Founder and CEO of the product launch platform The Grommet. Lou began his career in entertainment managing bands and promoting shows in High School. Lou DJ’d at local clubs including the early days of Playskool. He worked on groundbreaking shows on 91X FM in the late 80’s. By 1990 Lou was producing and programming various specialty shows on 91X and turning on L.A. A&R to the best in new music out of San Diego. The next 6 years Lou’s show was a platform for a wave of bands to get signed. Lou spent time coordinating, marketing and managing over 40 U.S. tours and landed in Los Angeles in the late 90’s doing A&R and publishing for a UK and Japan based company. Lou then moved to an indie label started by the William Morris Agency where he quickly rose from A&R to Vice President. He also oversaw and budgeted over 40 U.S. tours including artists’ tours with The Black Crowes, Goo Goo Dolls, Tonic and Japan dates with Keanu Reeves’ band Dogstar. In 2005 Lou and Carly started Love Machine Films to build a company that would use their talents to create projects each year that make a difference in the world. Today the Award Winning Love Machine Films has produced over 150 films and partnered to raise many millions of dollars for causes and non-profits. LMF has an award winning feature documentary and two other feature docs going to festivals. Lou is currently Executive Producer at Love Machine Films, promotes music and cause related events with Machina De Amor and is a Co-Host and Segment producer on 91X Loudspeaker. Lou is also producing webisodes about local music; “91 Seconds with Lou Niles” and “In Your Neighborhood with Lou Niles”. Lou can be seen interviewed in the new hit documentary “It’s Gonna Blow!!!: The San Diego Music Underground 1986-1996”.
Jules Pieri is Co-Founder and CEO of The Grommet – a marketplace for unique and innovative ideas to launch. She helps entrepreneurs bypass the corporate chain by reshaping how consumer products get discovered, shared, and bought. Her new book is “How We Make Stuff Now: Turn Ideas into Products That Build Successful Businesses.” Jules loved fine arts in school. She went to the University of Michigan and subsequently put herself on an “art diet” so she could focus her studies in other areas. She eventually took a sculpture class and saw some unique tools that were created by students. She had a light bulb moment-wanting to know how to get into the space of creating new products. Jules started her career as an industrial designer for technology companies and later moved into senior executive roles for large brands, such as Keds, Stride Rite, and Playskool. When Jules worked at Playskool she saw a large concentration of power among the big brands and noticed innovation slipping away as big retailers like Walmart, Kmart, Target and Toys-R-Us were unwilling to buy new/fresh products. They would take on new products but only ones with slight variations or products with a little new twist. The Grommet was later formed as a response – Jules saw a new route for getting products made and she jumped on the idea. Since October 20th, 2018 The Grommet has launched one new product a day and given small brands the chance to grow among the big competitors. In this episode of Trend Following Radio: Inventing Patents & Trademarks Innovation Amazon and counterfeit products New product launches
One for the money, who loves this show? Three to make it interesting and four, you ho! This show is over an hour of everything that you love! To start the episode, Dangle tells stories about visiting his perverted ex-coworkers and being witness to an awful date night (it made me ashamed to be a man!). Articles include helping your sex appeal, your new favorite sex toy, sex and old age, becoming a certified pervert, orgasms helping us all and the idea of taboo. I hope you can handle this fine installment that's bound to fill all of the right spaces! Enjoy!
In this episode we talk about more of the Playskool action figures, but this time, it's the Avengers! We then talk a little bit about Captain Owen's favorite superheroes and villains before wrapping up with a little bit of Transformers. The post Episode 048 – Hulk Smash appeared first on Sunday Evening With Captain Owen.

This week my guest is Jules Pieri, Co-Founder and CEO of the product launch platform The Grommet. The company’s Citizen Commerce™ movement is reshaping how consumer products get discovered, shared, and bought. Jules started her career as an industrial designer for technology companies and was subsequently a senior executive for large brands, such as Keds, Stride Rite, and Playskool. The Grommet is her third startup, following roles as VP at Design Continuum and President of Ziggs.com. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and people tell her she is the first designer to graduate from Harvard Business School, where she is currently an Entrepreneur in Residence. Jules was named one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs in 2013. In June, 2014, she was invited to the White House Maker Faire to launch The Grommet Wholesale Platform, connecting Makers with Main Street Retailers. She writes a personal blog at jules.thegrommet.com, and the “CEO Unplugged” column on Inc.com. She posts as @julespieri on Twitter and Instagram. The title of our second segment this week is “Amazon Sucks.” To be honest, no one is more surprised to be writing those words than me, having been an Amazon customer since all they sold were books. To be honest I’ve LOVED Amazon for a long time. I respect their execution and how they take care of me as a customer, and it’s the default store in our household, which spends more than it probably should online. When I posted something to that effect on Facebook, though, my longtime friend Jules stepped in to set me straight, about the impact of Amazon’s policies related to pricing on fellow entrepreneurs. She has some very specific concerns about the way they’ve gone after counterfeiters in particular, and I have to say having spent some time with Jules that I now share them. If you’re skeptical, that’s great. Hear her out in our second segment today, and judge for yourself.

Attack of the Killer Soundtrack #22 - Attack of the Oscar Nominees This episode, we listen to some of the musical Oscar nominees... and discuss. In the way, only “Movie Meltdown” can do. And as we learn what roller coaster enthusiasts call SBNO, we also discuss… that Miniature toy quality, eyes with legs and they just walk around, Interstellar, the Keira Knightley/Anne Hathaway debate, I hate it when I do something and I don’t get credit for it, European melancholy, you just really like ukuleles, War Horse, The Imitation Game, everything else is very Oscar-y, Adam Levine, #fuckthoseguys, Fitzcarraldo, I would freak out… but for very different reasons, Turn off the Dark, stop airbrushing me, Shawn Patterson, why don’t they give Oscars to video games, Jaws, Memento meets Pi, are the lyrics the same, is that why they call it casting, Bend It like Beckham, Nabokov says…, The Social Network, that’s what I’m here for, he’s all about that neck, a gorilla with a robot head, Gary Yershon, Al Pacino has the final say, her neck scares me, Anne Hathaway, English rules the world, makes me want to buy a phone, Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois, the ambience of a blanket fort is like no other, a Playskool xylophone, getting high and crazy, The Cardigans, crazy Tony Scott, Alexandre Desplat , it’s so obvious what they’re trying to do and it’s manipulative, Frente!, I’m already uncomfortable with this conversation, is she the one who fights wolves or robots or somethin’…. and they made like nine of them, that’s what I’m here for… I’m here to validate people’s hatred of film and dancers with things that attach to them. “You go deep… I like it.”
