https://www.mixcloud.com/horatioofficial/horatio-preents-ibizaholic-radioshow-episode-52-special-guest-mix-oscar-g/ Save the best for last. I have the honour and privilege to have as guest star in my radioshow the LEGENDARY DJ AND PRODUCER , MR"DARK BEATS" himself, OSCAR G . If you were to get out a map and track the history of house music – with endless lines sprouting from New York, Chicago and Detroit to points all over the world – you'd have to make a big, red circle around Miami, Florida, and start drawing. Miami was never ground zero to a full-fledged subcultural movement. But it is where Oscar Gaetan, better known as Oscar G, has lived every day of his life. And that fact alone makes it a hub on the global underground. An award-winning songwriter, producer, and DJ, Oscar is one of dance music's brightest and most enduring stars. As part of seminal production teams Liberty City, Murk, and Funky Green Dogs, he boasts hits – Billboard chart-toppers as well as underground smashes – in every decade, every trend, and every market. “Some Lovin',” “Fired Up,” and “Dark Beat” are more than just tracks: They are moments, shared by clubbers worldwide. They're the kind of moments Oscar still creates at Space Miami, his hometown superclub, where he's been a resident DJ for a staggering eight years – coming full circle after a globetrotting career. Oscar and longtime friend and production partner Ralph Falcon grew up in a Miami enlivened by the fresh spirit of hip-hop. “Break dancing, graffiti and the music that went along with it: That's really what got me into DJ-ing in the first place,” he says. By the age of 12, he was already spinning at school dances. Oscar and Ralph started working together at the end of high school, blending the sounds of their youth with the beginnings of house, like Ten City and Blaze; and the darker Euro bands of the time, like Depeche Mode and New Order. “We were always big on doing our own sound, with our own feeling and vibe in every aspect of it; from the way we mixed things to the sounds we chose,” says Oscar. “I remember being obsessed with that for years, and then people started to listen.” The early years bore some of the work for which they're still best known, like often imitated, never duplicated vocals “Some Lovin',” “If You Really Love Someone,” and “Reach For Me” (Tribal). Upon their release in 1993, the pair became instant superstars. “Europe kind of grabbed us,” says Oscar, so they spent a good amount of time touring overseas, eventually visiting every major and minor outpost of the global dance scene, including Zouk Singapore, Ministry Of Sound London, and Stereo Montreal. “Fired Up!” (Twisted), their biggest hit ever, followed in 1996. It topped the Billboard Dance chart, and even cracked the Top 100, peaking at No. 80. They would go on to remix countless major pop artists, from Madonna to Cher to Donna Summer; and appear on mainstream outlets like MTV and Top Of The Pops. The boys also cut two complete Funky Green Dogs albums for major label MCA, “Star” (1999) and “Super California” (2001). But their own measures of success were still decidedly underground: “Once Junior Vasquez played our records at Sound Factory [in New York], we felt like we could retire, and at that point we were like 20,” says Oscar. In March 2000, Space opened in downtown Miami with Oscar as the Saturday night resident, just as the world was paying its annual visit for Winter Music Conference. The club – with its cavernous main room, pummeling German sound system and nitrogen blasts – was the talk of dance world, and the legend of Oscar's residency began to grow. The year 2003 was a big one. Oscar released the “Live @ Space” (Star 69) compilation, and won the Club World Award for “Best Resident DJ” (which he won again in 2007). Murk set a new Billboard Dance chart record, with five No. 1's in a single year: Four singles from their self-titled artist album on Tommy Boy Records, and “Dark Beat” (Twisted), tribal house's first real vocal anthem, which found its way from dance floors onto mainstream radio. “We came up with ‘Dark Beat' in about 15 minutes. Whenever things come that quickly, you know there's something to them,” says Oscar. “But we didn't think radio or anthem; we were thinking more like, ‘Oh man, Danny Tenaglia's gonna be all over this!'” In 2006, Oscar became one of Pacha New York's only non-NY-based monthly residents, strengthening his bond with his home-away-from-home, and its rich dance history. He released a second installment in the Space series in 2007, starting new relationships with Nervous Records in the U.S. and CR2 in the U.K. CR2 also snapped up the Murk catalog, and commissioned new remixes of the classic tracks, including Paul Woolford's takes on “If You Really Love Someone” and “Reach For Me.” And in 2008, after nearly two decades making music, Oscar released out his first solo album, “Innov8” (Nervous). Last year Oscar released a mixed CD “Beats” on Nervous Records and working with his Murk partner Ralph Falcon produced one of the undergrounds anthem of 2012 – Amame – which was released worldwide on Defected. He and Ralph also re-activated the seminal label Murk Records. Even though his passion for music creation is undeniable, it's in his DJ booth where Oscar feels most at home. “On the music side, I've felt pretty energized lately, because the changes in the industry really enable you to be a lot more experimental and take more chances,” he says. “But DJ-ing to me always comes first: I really believe in it as an art form. Having a residency like Space, with a regular crowd, it's the ultimate.”

Fortunate to grow up around the rich club culture of NYC and influenced by the sounds around him, Avision now finds himself helping to usher in a new wave of techno for the New York scene. Over the last couple of years, he’s had releases on a range of influential labels like Ellum, Drumcode, Hardgroove, Machine, We Are The Brave, Mindshake, Intec, On Edge Society, and many more. Support for his productions have been coming in strong from tastemakers like Adam Beyer, Maceo Plex, Nicole Moudaber, Chris Liebing, Laurent Garnier, Joseph Capriati, and The Martinez Brothers to name a few. Avision started young on the turntables at age 12, and his preference for a more mature sound lead to his first residency by the time he was 15. Forged in the fires of Arizona's seminal 90s rave scene, Markus Schulz first went state, then national and with equal pace, international. From the building blocks of progressive trance & house, he crafted early anthems like ‘The New World' and latter-day ones like ‘Destiny'. He's helmed the scene-essential Coldharbour Recordings label for 13 years, chaired the Global DJ Broadcast radio show for 17 and remixed everyone from Moroder to Madonna. His floor-bound adventures have met with equal acclaim. Through his native audience affinity, flawless mixing, instinctive tune selection, and stylistically vast open-till-close sets, he has wowed crowds in every major city on Earth. Markus has scaled the upper reaches of the world's DJ rankings — a three-time winner of DJ Times' America's Best DJ crown ('12, '14 & ‘18) — and has drawn acclaim from every electronic music portal & press outlet on the planet. A regular fixture at the world's most famous clubs, arenas and festival stages, weekly, he continues to share his inimitable musical vision. In Europe, he's floored audiences at events like Transmission, Electronic Family, Nature One and Dance Valley. He's creamed Creamfields; gridlocked Global Gatherings and hosted his own stage at Tomorrowland. Stateside, EDC, Ultra, Nocturnal and numerous others have all similarly felt Schulz's presence. His legendary sets at spots like Space (Miami), Avalon (Los Angeles), Stereo (Montreal), Amnesia (Ibiza), as well as his International Residency at Ministry Of Sound, have become rites of passage for music lovers around the world.
Most recently, Markus conceived and delivered the ‘Watch The World' album. Released in October 2018, the album ran in the same stylistic vein as forerunner ‘We Are The Light', with a heavy, all-but-exclusive emphasis on song-based tracks. Again the album afforded Markus the much-desired chance to resume his songwriting, which first came to the fore on ‘WTW'. The album's first numbers were introduced by way of Spring ‘18's ‘In Bloom' EP. ‘Calling For Love', which featured vocals from JES, and the Emma Hewitt-sung ‘Safe From Harm' both debuted as part of the EP. Following in summer was ‘Upon My Shoulders', which featured frontman Sebu of indietronica outfit Capital Cities. The album also included a first-time collaboration with Christina Novelli, as well as co-productions with Romanian stars Smiley and Alina Eremia. ------------------ Tracklist: 1. Gangstercast 49 comes from Toronto-based Nathan Barato. Nathan Barato is a Toronto favourite and has been a staple in the city’s underground scene for more than 15 years. Early into his career, his ability behind the decks was quickly recognized by industry peers and fans alike, landing him residencies at some of Toronto’s most established nightclubs, including the iconic Guvernment nightclub, Footwork and Mad Bar. Musically, Nathan’s range dabbles in many genres, going back to his early influences of 90’s garage, and ranging to many spans of house and techno. His music has been released on some of the most prestigious labels in the industry, including Hot Creations, Rekids, Cajual, Saved Records, MOOD, Defected, Suara, Inmotion, Snatch, and of course, his very own Roots And Wings Music. As Nathan Barato continues to turn industry eyes and ears in his direction, he remains a well-respected and sought after name. He’s been booked to play some of the largest events and clubs around the world, including Womb Tokyo, Stereo Montreal, DC-10 Ibiza, Amnesia Ibiza, Fabric London, Coda Toronto, Output New York, and Magazzini Generali in Milan to name a few. Nathan recently enjoyed a summer spent in Ibiza where he held residency at arguably the largest party of the summer, Marco Carola’s legendary Music On. Nathan was also invited to play Music On in Mexico, Milan and Miami, as well as Jamie Jones’ Paradise in Ibiza. While Nathan’s career has him busy playing in cities around the globe, he remains proud to call Toronto home. He explains that this mix represents him well as him as an artist, because it was taken live from Coda for his recent open to close set. “I think it shows my versatility, timing and flow” says Nathan. CODA nightclub is in Toronto, Canada where Nathan lives. It is one of the only underground clubs in the city. It used to be called Footwork which is where Nathan use to play a lot, also with Carlo Lio, another Toronto house music hero.   He describes the House Gangster sound as “raw, fast and fun”. When asked what the House gangster movement meant to him, he replies; “To me, it means be yourself, believe in yourself and fuck everyone else.”   Nathan would like to give a special mention about this mix, in saying “Thankyou to the people that were at Coda and giving me good vibes to influence me in the way they did.”

Gangstercast 46 comes from the fabulous Honey Dijon. Based in NYC but Born and raised in Chicago; the home of house music, Honey is known for her unique take on the Chicago sound with inflections of the deep New York underground. Honey is one of the few DJ’s in recent years to defy pigeon-holing. She draws from a wide repertoire of musical styles from old school Chicago House, disco, tech house, tribal, funk, soul, and R& B. She has graced the tables from Ministry of Sound London to Ushuaia Ibiza, Panorama Bar Berlin, Stereo Montreal and everywhere in between. She has also shared the decks with none other Danny Tenaglia, Derrick Carter, Green Velvet, The Martinez Brothers, Satoshi Tomiie, and Quentin Harris. Like many involved in the scene, her love affair with music began upon hearing her parent’s soul and r&b records at home. Soon she wanted to be the one dropping the needle on the record whenever they held parties in the family basement and the lure of club life soon followed. Before long she was obsessively collecting her own music from record stores, which is where Honey met and formed a long lasting friendship with Derrick Carter, who became a mentor. It was he who introduced her to the underground of Chicago where she was exposed to the sounds of jacking house and Detroit techno. After relocating to New York City, Honey also met another music giant Danny Tenaglia, whose legendary sets at Twilo were also a major source of inspiration. “Danny heavily influenced my sound as a DJ’, says Honey. “The drama of his delivery and risk taking always informed me of how I wanted to present music. Of course, Derrick and Chicago house were also very influential in my development as an artist, so it’s this combination of Chicago and New York that has helped me develop my signature sound.” Known for her passion and integrity in her sets, this week Honey takes us back to the old skool sound, with this hugely authentic mix, fusing the bump of Chicago with more classic New York sounds and other European influences, dexterously flowing between house and techno, with a warm, hypnotic feel.  The art of mixing itself is very important to Honey, and when telling us of the tracks she chose in compiling this mix, she explained; “I did a bit of research and did a bit of crate digging to try and give a bit of swing and soul but in a modern way.” When explaining to us how this particular mix represented her as an artist, she told us; “Well being from Chicago, I wanted to mix a bit of my roots with what's happening in dance music at the moment. Since there has been a resurgence of House in Europe, I felt it was the perfect time to pull out a few forgotten classics.” Being a firm believer in the underground sound, and being a protector of the faith, When asked what the House Gangster movement means to her, she replies; “I just feel it's a gang of like-minded people representing the love of house and paying respects to where it came from and to also where it’s going.” Honey describes the ‘House Gangster sound’ as “Boompty but with guts and soul! Also with a bit of a techy edge top to it”

Torre Bros & Sebastien Bardy - Basements Biography: Talk about house music and its impossible not to talk about Japan’s Satoshi Tomiie. Since starting out in the late 80s he has been one of the scene’s most important and influential figures who has crafted endless dancefloor anthems as well as turning his hand to more pop inclined work, headline DJ sets around the world and all the while staying as relevant as anyone in the game. And it all started in Tokyo clubs during Satoshi’s youth, where he was forging himself a great reputation as a talented DJ in the early days of house. Also a lifelong student of jazz and classical piano, Satoshi soon started producing and had a huge impact right from his very first record. The debut single ‘Tears’ - co-produced in 1989 with Chicago’s ‘Godfather of house’ Frankie Knuckles - was an instant club hit and is today considered one of house music’s most important moments. Soon after, Satoshi relocated to New York City to get fully involved with the exciting early 90s electronic music scene. It immediately paid off, and because he was an accomplished musician as well as dexterous DJ, Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto (of Yellow Magic Orchestra fame) asked Satoshi to join him on his tour, and the rest is history. Since then, this auteur has forever been honing his musical ability before retuning to the studio once more. Throughout his career, international stars likes U2, Mariah Carey, Photek, Simply Red and David Bowie have all been remixed by Satoshi who has an ear for groove like few others in the world today. Satoshi runs the well-respected SAW.RECORDINGS imprint with Hector Romero, and together the pair have continued to refine and reinvent the Chicago and New York house blueprint for more than a decade by championing the up and coming international talents of acts like Audiofly, Doomwork, Mabaan Soul, Tuccillo and Guti. Of course, all the while Satoshi has continued to release seminal albums and tracks like Full Lick and Love In Traffic, records that showcase the man’s unique take on dark and twisted electronic rhythms, tortured vocals and generally hypnotic sounds. Having taken something of a time out to rebuild his studio, Satoshi is now back with a vengeance. He is producing, DJing and remixing at the top of his game once more and evidence of that comes in the form of his elongated and magical remix of Guti’s Keep It, which picked up support from contemporary heroes like Marco Carola, Loco Dice and Reboot. It is the same clubs as those heroes he plays in on a regular basis, places like EGG London, Stereo Montreal, Womb in Tokyo and Pacha Ibiza as well as many other places around the globe. Recently Satoshi has continued to play across Europe as well as having devised a pop up party concept that has been on tour across Italy and aims to concentrate on smaller more intimate club spaces, proving that he is still evolving and pushing things forwards after decades in the game. So too has he mixed it up for Italian site Soundwall’s podcast series and late in 2012 released his well received Backside Wave EP. Summer 2013 will be yet another landmark in Satoshi’s career, as it will see the release of a next artist album full of the electronic delights we have come to expect from the man who is still very much an essential voice in the global house music conversation.
