A conversation with Austin Unruh, founder of Trees for Graziers, about the investment case for silvopasture. What if we could plant hundreds of millions of trees on degraded, low-value pasture land and make money from it? What if we planted trees that are beneficial for livestock—ruminants, pigs, and poultry? The market for meat and animal products is fairly stable (unless we get a massive breakthrough in precision fermentation soon, but that's hard to predict). Trees can dramatically lower costs and increase production.Austin argues that this is the best entry point to get many more trees into the landscape. When chosen well, these trees provide shade (a basic need), but more importantly, they offer feed during the most difficult periods of the year—like high summer, or specific fruits that drop in the autumn, full of sugar and energy, just as cows prepare for the colder winter months. Especially with pasture-raised pigs and poultry, you can save massively on expensive (organic) feed, which is mostly grain. There is nothing halfway or partial about becoming a real Christian. Real Christianity only occurs when one is truly BORN AGAIN.That means the recognition of SIN, something eschewed, mocked by present day society and thinking, but the requirement for biblical salvation, the recognition and confession of sin in a life and consequently, the status of the sinner in need of redemption. That is a testimony, a way of life, an explanation of real Christianity which the young in their spiritual searching must hear, and must hear clearly, directly, and without compromise or qualification. These are His words, not mine or yours:ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD.That is what Gen Z needs to hear. If, says Jesus Christ, you wish to follow me, then I require that you:LAY YOUR ALL ON THE ALTAR.Not some, not something of you, nothing partial, but:ALLeverything you have and are. That is one hard message, difficult to understand in one sense, but more so, difficult to accept as a precondition of conversion and redemption. The younger generation will find out that becoming a real Chrisitan, A REAL CHRISTIAN, is not easy, not at all. They will hear more words from the master:TAKE UP MY CROSS, YOUR CROSS, AND FOLLOW ME.Be ready for the onslaughts of humankind. Be ready for a brand new, aggressive, angry, and attacking confrontation, and a brand new, aggressive:RIDICULEREJECTIONREFUSALA shunning in every way. And more. You should be ready to SELL ALL YOU HAVE if your faith journey so requires. That surely does not sound very appealing, but the willingness is a fundamental part of the conversion process.In fact, one should be ready to forsake all, to leave as Jesus said, father and mother, brother and sister, and follow me, never looking back. If that becomes necessary, if that is part of your calling, then comes the ultimate Christian challenge:YOU ARE EITHER WITH ME (THE CHRIST) OR AGAINST ME.There is no in between, no gray area, all or nothing. You can not serve two masters. If, says the Lord, you want me in your life, then it is:ALL OR NOTHING.All of this is the price, the very high price of discipleship, of partnership with Jesus Christ. These are not suggestions or options. These are commands, uncompromising commands. These are marching orders from the captain of our faith. These are hard requirements, non-negotiable, and require a whole heart and head understanding and commitment.If one is not willing to accept these spiritual terms and conditions, don't get involved. Keep looking. But know that you will never find anything better or even equal to this exciting, redeeming relationship with the Son of the Living God. Nothing comes close to such an encounter, nothing.Come to Him, young generation, but don't add anything to the spiritual contract. And don't subtract anything from the spiritual demands. This contract is a matter of all or nothing, your all or nothing. The Christ of glory wants no part of you, but only all of you. That is the message that Gen Z and millennials must hear. Those are Jesus' words and His uncompromising but lifesaving message. To accept is to enter into a relationship which will in fact produce peace, and joy, and life abundant like any could ever imagine. That new life is full of power, energy, confidence, and assurance, it is characterized by faith, and hope, and most importantly by:LOVE.It is exactly what the young seek and I do hope and pray as I am sure you do, that they will find it, and find:HIM.For no where in this world is there anyone or anything like HIM. Nothing and no one. That is what the world hungers for. That message is missing in so many places and in so many pulpits today, which is the main reason why RELIGION without HIM at the center can never satisfy, never.HE and only HE can change a life. I pray the young who seek will find:HIM.

Staub von der Straße, Blumentröge auf der Fensterbank und der Regen sorgten dafür, dass unsere Fenster reif waren zum Putzen. Da ich wusste, dass Fensterputzen im Sonnenschein nicht gut funktioniert, suchte ich einen bewölkten Tag dazu aus. Ich wollte meiner Frau damit eine Freude machen und sie mit geputzten Fenstern überraschen.Leider funktionierte das so gar nicht nach meinem Sinn. Ich weiß nicht genau, was ich falsch machte. Vielleicht hatte ich zu wenig Putzmittel verwendet, nicht oft genug frisches Wasser genommen, oder das Putztuch war zu dreckig geworden. Als meine Frau wieder zu Hause war, wartete ich voller Spannung darauf, dass meinem Liebling die geputzten Fenster auffielen. Nichts dergleichen passierte. Warum? An einem der nächsten Sonnentage deckte das Licht der Sonne auf, dass noch viele Putzstreifen vorhanden waren. Als ich ihr von meinem Missgeschick erzählte, freute sie sich trotzdem über meine Aktion.Eine andere Lichtquelle deckt bei Weitem mehr auf: Es ist das Licht der heiligen Schriften der Bibel. Wer in dieses Licht tritt, erkennt durch die Gesetze Gottes zunächst einmal seine eigene Schuld und Verlorenheit. Dieses Licht der Heiligkeit Gottes durchleuchtet unser tiefes Inneres. Durch Gottes Gebote habe ich erkannt, dass ich als Sünder keine Chance habe, eine Beziehung zu Gott zu pflegen. Doch das Licht der Bibel ist auch das Licht, das zum Leben führt: Das Evangelium von Jesus Christus hat mir den Weg zu ihm gezeigt. Durch den Glauben an ihn bin ich von Schuld gereinigt. Nun kann ich mich über all die guten Worte der Bibel freuen. Rotations here are 30+ years, but it's also one with many challenges: current practices usually mean cutting down a forest after 30 years and completely replanting it. Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF), where you selectively harvest and let natural processes do most of the work, requires highly skilled foresters, but it can deliver superior returns alongside all the environmental benefits. These are production forests you want to be in — and forest bathe in. Im letzten Jahr des Zweiten Weltkriegs, als die militärische Niederlage Deutschlands immer deutlicher absehbar wurde, veränderte sich das System der Konzentrationslager grundlegend. Über 700.000 Gefangene waren zu diesem Zeitpunkt in den Lagern des Dritten Reichs inhaftiert. Mit dem Vormarsch der Alliierten begann die SS, die Lager hastig zu räumen, um eine Befreiung der Häftlinge zu verhindern. In oftmals chaotischen Evakuierungen wurden die Insassen – schwer geschwächt, unterkühlt und völlig entkräftet – in Viehwagen abtransportiert oder zu Fuß von Lager zu Lager getrieben. Bei den sogenannten „Todesmärschen“ zwang man Tausende Häftlinge, unter extremen Bedingungen kilometerweit zu marschieren – durch Schnee, Regen und eisige Temperaturen. Wer zurückblieb oder zusammenbrach, wurde meist sofort erschossen. Diese Evakuierungen, die häufig durch bewohnte Gebiete führten, forderten zahlreiche Todesopfer und zeugen von der rücksichtslosen Gewalt der Bewacher. Die Todesmärsche markieren eine der letzten und grausamsten Etappen der nationalsozialistischen Vernichtungspolitik.

Je wärmer die Luft, desto mehr Wasserdampf speichert sie - und dann prasselt er runter, der Regen. Dazu kommen immer öfter die sogenannten blockierenden Wetterlagen: Die Luftmassen in höheren Sphären bewegen sich nicht mehr so schnell wie vor ein paar Jahrzehnten. Und so kann aus Regen Platzregen werden, dann Starkregen und der kann zu Überschwemmungen und Sturzfluten führen. Deutschland hat das im Juli 2021 im Ahrtal erlebt. Spanien im vergangenen Jahr, in der Provinz Valencia. Gleichzeitig steigt die Zahl der Hitzetage pro Jahr und wir erleben immer öfter Wasserknappheit und Dürren. All das ist eine Folge der Klimaerwärmung. Klimaforscher sprechen von Risikojahren, mit denen wir rechnen müssen. Was geschieht gerade mit unseren Wasserkreisläufen? Wie gut sind wir darauf vorbereitet? Wie lernen wir den Umgang mit Wasserüberfluss und Wasserknappheit? Mit dem Komiker Olli Dittrich gründet er die Band „Die Doofen“ und es ist unglaublich, wie viel Erfolg die beiden Musiker mit diesem Konzept hatten. Auch nach diesen Projekten war und ist Boning immer präsent, als Moderator von Shows wie „Clever“, als beliebter Gast in Shows, als Bestseller-Autor und: als Bader. Wo immer dieser Mann gerade ist, egal wie warm, wie kalt, wie abwegig - er sucht sich ein Gewässer und steigt rein. Weit über 250.000 Fans feiern ihn dafür, täglich. Regen und Schnee sorgen vor allem im Wallis, im Berner Oberland aber auch im Tessin nach wie vor für zahlreiche Beeinträchtigungen. Im Wallis sind mehrere Ortschaften noch immer von der Stromversorgung abgeschnitten. Ansonsten beginnt sich die Wetterlage aber allmählich zu entspannen.

Angesichts heftiger Schneefälle hat der Staatsrat des Kantons Wallis die besondere Lage ausgerufen. Auch der Kanton Tessin und das Berner Oberland sind von Unwettern betroffen. Benjamin Zweifel, Lawinenprognostiker am Institut für Schnee und Lawinenforschung (SLF) ordnet ein. Angesichts heftiger Schneefälle und weitreichender Beeinträchtigungen hat der Staatsrat des Kantons Wallis die besondere Lage ausgerufen. Die Entscheidung fiel, nachdem es zu Stromausfällen in mehreren Ortschaften kam und in allen Höhenlagen Lawinen sowie umstürzende Bäume drohen. Auch der Kanton Tessin und das Berner Oberland sind von Unwettern mit teils starkem Schneefall und Regen betroffen. Benjamin Zweifel ist Lawinenprognostiker am Institut für Schnee und Lawinenforschung (SLF) in Davos und zu Gast bei Karoline Arn.

Dort besteht auch Jahrzehnte nach dem schweren Explosions-Unglück von 1947 weiterhin die Gefahr für Explosionen. Nun informierten die Behörden über den Stand der Dinge. Die Zollpolitik der USA und die Reaktionen der betroffenen Länder sorgen für viel Unruhe an den Finanzmärkten und Unsicherheiten im globalen Handel. Besonders hart trifft diese Zollpolitik die ärmeren Länder des globalen Südens. Zu diesem Schluss kommt ein neuer UNO-Bericht.

A conversation with Herb Young, farmer who, after 36 years in the chemical industry working for Bayer, retired and bought a small farm in Georgia—where things quickly got out of hand. While researching organic premiums, Herb came across regenerative agriculture—and fell deep, very deep, down the rabbit hole. For over a year, he read everything, listened to everything, and then planted his first trees. A few years later, Herb is now one of the leading regenerative citrus growers in the country, conducting cutting-edge research while selling his first harvest directly to consumers in over 36 states. And the most surprising part? His citrus is, on average, eight times more nutrient- dense than conventionally grown oranges. That means you'd have to eat eight regular oranges to match the nutrients of just one of his. Suddenly, the idea of food as medicine becomes very affordable.
