Support Act is described as the heart and hand of Australian music. Why the hand? Because they have been lending a helping hand to Australian musicians who have needed assistance for almost 3 decades now. Musicians are often the first to give assistance to charitable causes so it's wonderful to see some charity extended their [...]Read More... from Interview with CEO of Support Act, Clive Miller, about Aus Music Month and Aus Music T-Shirt Day 2024
For episode 18, I had the pleasure to chat with none other than "Berlin's Queen of House" Cinthie ( @cinthie6025 ). We talked about her early DJ years and how they compare to today's club experiences, women in production and how to sustain longevity in the (electronic) music scene. German producer, DJ, label and record store owner Cinthie has become one of the most sought-after artists in the contemporary electronic scene. The last decade has seen her become an unstoppable force who has a touring schedule that takes her across the globe to perform at leading clubs and festivals across Europe, Asia, the Americas and beyond.Cinthie's knowledge of house music's foundations is second to none, as reflected by the vast vinyl collection she has been building since 1995. Her DJ sets cleverly join the dots between the past and the present and plot lines between the swing of New York, the rawness of Chicago and the energy of Berlin. They're stripped back and emotive, whether deep or vocal, and always married to an irresistible groove. In the studio, Cinthie has mastered the art of making maximum impact from bare musical essentials. For more than 20 years her timeless house sounds have come on labels like Heist, Aus Music and her own 803 Crystal Grooves, and in 2020 gave rise to her adventurous and accomplished debut album Skylines - City Lights. Cinthie's DJ-kicks mix in 2022 was another high-water mark. It's a revered series that had a big impact on her in the nineties, and her own entry is one of house music's best. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dancetothemusic/support

Truly an artist who needs no introduction to the No Tags universe, Midland is also one of the nicest people we know in this bottomless viper pit called dance music.Harry Agius has been a constant presence on the dancefloor since we were first finding our feet as music writers, and we've followed him every step of the way – from his early run of steppy house records on Aus Music and Phonica, to ‘Final Credits' mania in 2016, and his current incarnation as something of a grande dame of gay club culture. That role is one he's grown into slowly but surely, as he explains to us in this episode, and it blossoms into something very special on his debut album Fragments Of Us. It's far from your typical wham-bam, nine-tracks-and-an-ambient-interlude dance music long-player. Constructed around gay voices past and present – including ‘80s artist and Aids activist David Wojnarowicz, mould-breaking Black filmmaker Marlon Riggs, and Luke Howard of London institution Horse Meat Disco – it's a genuinely personal record that's also a kind of time capsule for future generations. We talked to Harry about growing into his identity as a gay DJ, the many, many reasons to turn down a gig, and whether Arthur Russell would have liked dubstep. Plus, he loves his films! We get an excellent recommendation and confirmation, if it were needed, that he's #PartyGirlHive. As ever, if you enjoyed this episode of No Tags, please do rate, review and subscribe on your go-to podcast app, as it does really help. We'd also ask you to consider subscribing to our paid tier, which costs £5 a month and helps us continue planning, recording and editing these (often long!) podcasts. Michael McMartin, the late, great artist manager who guided the career of Hoodoo Gurus for more than 40 years, was a big champion for Australian music. One policy he, and Hoodoo Gurus live engineer and Coastie Marshall Cullen pushed for was that an Australian must support touring bands in Australia. For the dance producer, a move into scoring film and TV is often a secret (or not-so-secret) career aspiration. Hardly anyone manages to pull it off though. How do you do it? And what is the work and life actually like if you make it?Nathan Micay has released singles and albums on labels including Aus Music and Lucky Me, but now spends most of his time writing music for projects for Netflix and the like. His CV in that area now includes Industry, the new Sexy Beast series, and HBO's Reality. So he's a great person to get into the details of the above questions with... and on this episode we do just that. We also talk about the dance stuff too though, and get some great stories about Berlin, Berghain, and music making generally. Hello and welcome episode 47 of The DJ B-12 Deep Acid House Experience. I hope you are all doing well out there and I appreciate your support and listenership. This show is for the month of September 2023, and it is dedicated in memory of Ainsley Talbot, my 10-month 3-week-old kitten who passed on August 29, 2023. She had a terrible condition that left her disabled after she was about 2-3 months old. Although she was born normal with her surviving sister, Arianna and her brother, Jackson, it seems, her mother, Gracie (who was a stray cat I took in 3 weeks before they were born), contracted a virus while she was pregnant, which resulted in only Ainsley developing a condition that caused her cerebral cortex to not form properly. It started out with her motor skills diminishing and eventually led to her being only able to lay on her side and needing help doing everything. She was a true fighter, and she will always be my little hero and my best friend, but her broken little body just had enough. She was the most beautiful, precious, and loving soul I've ever known. As you can imagine, this was a bittersweet episode for me to do with losing her so young, which is one of the reasons it took me so long to get out, but I wanted to get a fresh mix out with new tunes that I could also dedicate to her. Although this set was worked out ahead of her passing, some of the tracks took on a special meaning because of lyrics and titles. RIP Ainsley girl. I will love you forever and always, until we meet again, my angel. Ainsley Talbot October 3, 2022 - August 29, 2023.This mix has 76 tracks and a runtime of 2 hours and 38 minutes. This set contains the best in house, breaks, progressive, melodic house and techno, techno, deep house, acid, piano house, vocal house, uplifting house and more. Amy's heart swelled with pride as she hugged her faithful companion. They had done it—they had conquered the competition. We premiere new music from UK dance music royalty as Mark Hawkins returns to Aus Music for a 12 track album. We premiere ‘Maladayfun Friction' a kaleidoscopic look into deconstructed acid at lightning speed. Mark Hawkins flexes one of the beefiest resume's in UK dance music history with early releases on Djax Up Beats and Ugly Funk which we'e hugely authoritative cuts within the world of screeching & jacking techno. Across the following decades, Mark has delivered razor sharp cuts that encompass pretty much anything that has an electronic heart – leaving his own unique trail for others to follow via his work for labels as diverse as Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Sonic Mind, Mistress Recordings, Houndstooth and Aus. Hawkins returns to Aus Music with a dozen fresh cuts encompassing his rich background in electronic dance music. His latest offering Hawkins seems to be moving in a similar a vain as his previous LP ‘The New Normal which landed on Houndstooth in 2021. We premiere ‘Maladayfun Friction', a disentangled trip through fluttering synth lines and acid tones as Hawkins shows his more experimental side of production. The UK producer shows shadows of Aphex Twin on Maladayfun Friction as the track promptly caves in on itself, diverting into peculiar rhythms and patterns at the blink of an eye. Hawkins exquisitely uses tight loops and beat repeats to transition from one frenzied section to the next, all while still holding onto his ravishing sound design which makes the track comprehensively captivating. Sound Support, made up of Lars Dales & Lorenz Rhode, released their first two EP son Prins Thomas' Internasjonal, then appeared on House of Disco, Let's Play House and Permanent Vacation. Now arriving on Will Saul's Aus Music imprint, the duo have delivered an EP spanning House, Italo, Electro and beyond, showcasing their unique ability to craft fun and well-considered dance music. To help showcase this release, they've stepped in to provide us with a stunning guest mix. "We made this mix in the studio together and we had a blast finding a bit more house oriented selection. Our AUS and Toy Tonics releases just dropped and they're both more house than our regular stuff, so our heads are in that space. We've tried to make it fun, not too lighthearted, and finished with a bang (3 of our own tracks back to back)."
