In this episode, Carlos interviews his wife Susanne Justice-Hidalgo, Co-Founder and CFO/COO at VisumCx, about what it felt like to view the 90-hour work weeks from the other side of the glass—and what the toll was on their family. Carlos is a keynote speaker who regularly discusses topics on marketing, business leadership, B2B customer experiences. About VisumCX: VisumCX is an agency that is focused on working with mid-market companies to enable and deliver better customer experiences. Top ten takeaways from the episode: “My book The UnAmerican Dream is about this hustle that everyone is all about today. It talks about the balance we need between our professional and personal lives.” “There’s a clear difference between customer service and customer experience. Often times , companies can provide stellar customer service because of a bad customer experience.” “Organizations confuse the two, they often feel that because they provide a good customer service, it takes care of the customer experience aspect.” “Customer experience starts long before anybody buys anything.” “If a customer has a bad experience when on the website or when looking for product information, that’s already impacted their perception of your brand!” “It is important to look at the full buying journey to create a better customer experience.” “A good CX starts with a good employee experience as a base. It is important to work up from that level, to understand the mission of the company and the experience that the company wants the customer to feel.” “There’s now a California Gold Rush in the B2B marketing segment- with too much martech! Companies are buying into martech without a clear vision of what they want the tools to do or without a clear understanding of how to fully optimize value from them.” “It is crucial for teams to define their strategy before investing in martech or any tech.” “The fact that people are paying more attention to data and they are looking more at what they can do with it also helps plan interactions with the customer the way they want – thereby creating a better overall customer experience.” About the podcast Sunny Side Up is a series of 15-minute podcasts. Leaders and innovators share what they’ve learned in the B2B tech sector on topics related to marketing, product management, sales, and leadership.

The Self-Employed Life

We live in a “hustle culture” that praises getting little sleep, sacrificing everything, and working nonstop. If you watch Shark Tank, you're familiar with their advice to work 90 hours a week if you want to be successful as an entrepreneur. But putting so little priority on personal relationships and self-care is ultimately toxic and unsustainable. We have to redefine the American Dream. It isn't about acquiring material possessions; it's about the right to be happy now. Establishing boundaries in your professional and personal life to protect your health and happiness and the ability to prioritize relationships is necessary to living an abundant life. Instead of a work/life balance, we should be focusing on work/life boundaries. To dive deeper into the idea of being successful in your professional life and your personal life, I've brought on author, speaker and 25-year business veteran, Carlos Hidalgo. Carlos co-founded his first company in 2005 leading it to two consecutive Inc. 5000 Awards before departing and launching his second company VisumCx.  In addition, he serves as a managing partner in a health care platform start-up. THE COURAGE AND VULNERABILITY WARRIOR   “I don't ever want to miss a last first again.” - Carlos Hidalgo Highlights - Every day we have the choice to act out of fear or anger or out of love. The “pursuit of happiness” does not mean to chase happiness; it means to choose happiness. We need to establish boundaries in areas of our life that affect us the most.  Skip To The End: Design how you want your life to look and work backward. We are wired for intimate, close, connected experience with other people.  Shame Culture can have a terrible effect on entrepreneurs. When you fail, replace “but” with an “and.”  Manage your calendar with “immovables” - items that take top priority.  Everyone has lies they tell themselves like, “In the long run, I'm doing this all for my family.” Unless you've sat down with your family and asked them what they want, you're creating a false narrative. Add a human touch to your marketing strategy and focus on personalizing an unforgettable buyer journey with Founder and CEO of VisumCX, and author of Driving Demand, Carlos Hidalgo. This episode is all about getting to know your buyer and the world they are a part of. You'll learn how to keep your buyer at the forefront of your marketing strategy and how to provide a plan designed to fit their specific needs first.   Takeaways: Define your personalization strategy first, then select the technology that best enables your plan to succeed. Surround your buyer with a seamless core message across your multi-channel platform (social strategy, web, digital strategy, etc.). Remember, at the end of the day you still sell to people. Because your buyer is human, make an effort to understand how they think and feel. It's important to be able to talk about your customer's world and what your industry is doing without mentioning product, service or company name. Avoid the defined selling process. Your process should be focused on your buyer's needs rather than what you want to sell. Realize and expect some failures to occur. Make them useful by learning from them.   Your entire goal should be to enable, equip, and empower your buyer.   Links: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/carlos-hidalgo-4a805a1/ Website: https://www.visumcx.com/ Twitter: @cahidalgo Uganda non-profit: Beauty for Ashes Book link: Driving Demand

Carlos Hidalgo was guest number 122 on "Cool Things Entrepreneurs Do" in Novermber 2015, At that time he was the founder and CEO of ANNUITAS and was leading the 10 year old company through amazing growth. Then a year later he decided he had to make some hard choices, and decided to walk away from the company to choose a different life for himself and his family. Can a CEO of a successful company really walk away? Carlos did just that. He told his board in October, and 4 months later told the world. What surprised him the most was how many other CEOs, Founders, and C-Level Executives reached out to him and said "Tell me more about how you did that". This episode is a must hear for every entrepreneur who feels they have their ladder against the wrong wall. It is common for people to merge their identity with their career, and get buried in the "busy". If that sounds like you (or someone you know), check out this interview. After leaving the company Carlos founded VisumCx. Hes has 20+ years of experience in leading organizations who are dedicated to meeting the demands of their customers by enabling the delivery of exceptional customer experience. VisumCx takes a hands-on approach to the assessment, development, implementation and measurement of customer experience programs.
