Codependency and Narcissism: The Paradigm You MUST Escape

Are you in a relationship with a narcissist and do you feel like you need to walk on eggshells to keep them calm? Do you feel easily controlled due to your caretaking nature? Can you identify codependent traits in you, such as low self worth, negative self talk, feeling shame-based, and needing the approval of others to feel like you are okay, and not going crazy?  If you are codependent, most often you do not know it. Seeking approval, and worrying more about what others think about you than what you think about you has become a way of life. In childhood, your behavior was tied to your self worth and not your innate worthiness, so today, you subconsciously seek out similar dynamics in which you repeat your childhood patterns of needing others to give you permission to feel worthy.  The codependent narcissist relationships is similar to two magnets being drawn to one another. One needs and attention and the other feels compelled to abandon their own needs just to pour out their attention onto others in exchange for a sense of self. The codependent is completely governed by faulty childhood programming and can die in this self abandoning paradigm and never awaken. This happens all the time and is why many people on their death beds most regret NOT acting on behalf of the self during their lifetimes rather than worrying about what other people thought about them.  In this episode, Lisa A. Romano Breakthrough Life Coach and #1 bestselling author of The Road Back to Me (2012) and creator of the Codependency Recovery Accelerator, The 12 Week Breakthrough Roadmap, helps you to understand codependency as a mindset or paradigm that traps you within its walls all outside of your limited conscious awareness. Her passion for helping adult children from toxic homes, such as those born to alcoholics, narcissists, or the emotionally immature, is rooted in her desire to help others transform their inner wounds into inner strengths. Romano was awarded the title of the #1 Most Influential Person of 2020 due to her deep, uncanny, understanding of codependency and the negative adverse childhood experiences responsible for this life lived from the perception of a lost self.  She is ready to help you find your true self, and equip you with the mindset training required to breakthrough the veil of illusions that have kept you trapped in codependent narcissistic paradigms.  Begin your Breakthrough journey here: Codependency Recovery Accelerator Ready for an enriched coaching and mentoring experience? Ken welcomes Osahon for another Cabana Talk and a review of the Super Bowl Half-Time Show. They invite their good friend Grant Young, a Play Station engineer they met in a Table Talk hosted by Ken and Osahon in 2021. As the Philadelphia Eagles met the Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl VIX, the epic half-time performance featured rapper Kendrick Lamar, Pulitzer Prize winner with 17 Grammys (47 nominations), twice named among TIME MAGAZINE's Most Influential Person of the Year, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and many other awards. Osahon and Grant have been long-time fans - and with enthusiasm watched the show together with great interest. From personal experience, both Osahon and Grant (a graduate of California Baptist University with both Bachelor's and Master's degrees) know white evangelical spaces well and lament much of the misplaced controversy around the famed Hip-Hop artist. They explain the very public, long-time tension between Lamar and Drake; the appearance of Samuel L. Jackson and Serena Williams; and the elegant symbolism on full display throughout the show. Ken, Osahon, and Grant agree with the USA TODAY Opinion that “The Super Bowl was a rejection of Trump's Vision for America.” It was the first time in history that a sitting President appeared in person at the Super Bowl. He sat through the tepid reception (as many boos as cheers), the conspicuous absence of camera focus on him, the black national anthem, the many black artists who performed, the powerful half-time show, and the sound defeat of his favored Kansas City Chiefs. His later Truth Social posts confirmed that he was not pleased. This podcast is a lively, informative discussion of an event viewed by 128 million people around the globe. Today's question is the holy grail of influence. It's the question that any influencer that wants to make an impact with their words, ideas or mission strives to answer: How do you tell stories that change the way the world works? My guest today has built his career around answering this question - and still sits at the coal face, mining away at the ever-evolving answer.Today's Guest Jeremy Connell Waite is a man of many hats. He's Communications Designer at IBM where he coaches partners and executives to create compelling pitches and keynotes for purpose-driven brands. He also created IBM's Communications Thinking™ framework, now used across the globe to help future business leaders to tell stronger purpose-driven stories, on screen, on stage or in the boardroom.Having been Voted the #1 Most Influential Person on Twitter for #BigData,Top 30 Most Influential Digital Marketer in the world and the 3rd most Influential Social Media Marketer in the UK.In April this year Jeremy also founded the Earthshot Academy - a storytelling platform to help young professionals and business leaders who ‘want to change the world with their words and ideas'. If this wasn't enough, he's also written four books, run his own agency and worked for brands such as Nike, Vodafone and Uber. I first came across Jeremy after a friend recommended I check out his LinkedIn profile, where I was just blown away by the visual story maps he was creating. Literally decoding on one page the key structures, moments and secrets of the greatest storytellers of our time.He calls himself an industrial storyteller – I would say he's a storytelling scientist.LinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeremypaulwaite/ You'll LearnThe key emotion you must evoke to get people to consider and take action on your ideas - basically the magic ingredient of influence. What ‘elephants', ‘wild geese' and ‘black swans' have to do with purpose-driven influence and how to use them all within your storytelling. How to tailor your storytelling to make maximum impact – including staying flexible when it comes to ‘what you want to say' vs. ‘what your audience needs to hear'.How much preparation a world changing speech actually takes (HINT: a lot more than you think). Beyond the Prescription

Legal scholar. Lawyer. Professor. Writer. Time Magazine's Most Influential Person. Tiger Mom.There's not much that Amy Chua hasn't done—or can't do. She clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals, worked on Wall Street, and authored an international bestseller. It wasn't until she published her wildly popular memoir, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, that Amy Chua became a household name. People around the world read about her unique, and often controversial, approach to parenting, i.e. “tiger mothering.”Described as an “ox” by her father, Amy credits her own parents' strict—and sometimes merciless—“tough love” style of parenting for her success. A daughter of immigrants, Amy learned from an early age to persevere against all odds, to eschew victimhood, and to take pride in her identity as an armor against discrimination. But despite her fierce public persona, Amy is a lot like the rest of us: replete with self-doubt and struggle. In this episode of Beyond the Prescription, Amy shares her failures and successes as a parent, a hospitalized patient, and a self-described “work in progress.” A new episode launches every Tuesday. Beyond the Prescription is hosted by Dr. Lucy McBride (https://lucymcbride.com/podcast) and produced by kglobal (https://kglobal.com/podcast-studio).

What do CPAs and accountants underestimate when it comes to marketing? According to Sarah Johnson Dobek, founder and president of Inovautus Consulting, the answer to that question is social media, in particular, LinkedIn and a “block and tackle” approach to business development. Should legal ethics rules be changed to allow non-lawyer ownership of legal services providers? So controversial is the question that it was major news in July when the State Bar of California voted to appoint a task force to study and make recommendations on the issue. What spurred the bar to take this action was the Legal Market Landscape Report it commissioned from William D. Henderson, professor at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, who is Bob Ambrogi’s guest on today’s episode to discuss his findings and recommendations. Henderson’s report makes the case that the legal profession is failing in its core mission of serving those who need legal services. The situation has brought the profession to an inflection point that requires action by regulators, Henderson says. The most effective regulatory action would be to ease rules on non-lawyer investment in order to allow lawyers to more closely collaborate with professionals from other disciplines, such as technology, process design, data analytics, accounting, marketing and finance. “By modifying the ethics rules to facilitate this close collaboration,” Henderson writes in his report, “the legal profession will accelerate the development of one-to-many productized legal solutions that will drive down overall costs; improve access for the poor, working and middle class; improve the predictability and transparency of legal services; aid the growth of new businesses; and elevate the stature and reputation of the legal profession as one serving the broader needs of society.” At Maurer, Henderson holds the Stephen F. Burns Chair on the Legal Profession. In 2017, he founded Legal Evolution, an online publication that chronicles successful innovation within the legal industry. A prolific author and speaker, he focuses primarily on the empirical analysis of the legal profession. Among his honors, he was named by the ABA Journal as a Legal Rebel, included on the National Law Journal’s list of The 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America, and in both 2015 and 2016 named the Most Influential Person in Legal Education by The National Jurist magazine. Eric's spirit was unmatched in the Rutgers football locker room.  His absence had a huge impact on his teammates as they lost all the remaining games left on the schedule.  One year after his injury, Eric lead the Scarlet Knights on to the field on a snowy October evening to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. That moment is one that will impact the rest of my life and I reference it in ever talk I give about my own story of perseverance.  As he and his teammates made their way onto the field, Eric's signature ear-to-ear grin was captured in a picture, which was ultimately featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Body language is huge in the game of football.  I remember having to count how many times we had our heads down while breaking down game film from the night before.  Having your head down showed to the whole world that you had given up and that you were defeated.  The coaches at Rutgers preached similar things during practice and looking back, I couldn't agree more.  Below is a picture of me, post injury, at the coin toss of my team's last football game during my high school senior year (check out Episode 1 to hear my tale).  How would you describe my body language?  Personally, I see someone who looks like they are feeling bad for themselves, who has given up and who was defeated. West Morris Central vs. Warren Hills, November 9, 2007, 43-0 Wolfpack Looking back on the time between my injury and the night Eric returned to the field against West Virginia, I am embarrassed at how I acted.  Fortunately, Eric inspired me to do good with the gifts I was given, not sulk over the ones that were taken away from me. This podcast is my attempt to prevent other athletes from acting and feeling how did by sharing stories of perseverance like Eric's.  I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to interview Eric, and although I was planning on making this my 52nd episode, I felt that posting today was a more appropriate time.  Below are some talking points we cover: Playing sports growing up and staying injury free Concussions How to handle position changes The important role of special teams players  Leading up to his spinal cord injury Moments after his spinal cord injury Rehab/recovery Defying the odds Transition to life after football Cool experiences he has had since his injury Lessons learned from playing for coach Schiano The meaning behind his many tattoos and if he feels them while he gets inked Eric's thoughts on the kickoff in football Be on the lookout for Eric's new show on Fox, "Mission Possible," where he also shares stories of perseverance! As mentioned before, Eric and I suffered some of the most extreme injuries in sports.  However, neither of us regret playing and don't want our stories to take an opportunity to play away from another kid.  I hope this episode can add perspective and motivation to your life, it obviously did for me.  I also recommend reading Eric's book which takes you through his life as a young kid and through his recovery.  Reading it feels like you are sitting in a room talking to him.  It had me laughing the whole time.  Please show your support to Eric by making a donation at the link below.
