How do we build products and platforms that support a healthy, prosperous future? What will it take to “make the internet fun again?” Should kids be using AI? This week, serial entrepreneur and investor Alexis Ohanian—who co-founded Reddit two decades ago and is currently working to reinvent the social news aggregator Digg—joins Reid and Aria to talk about (re)building online and offline communities in the age of AI. They hear from Alexis on his recent bid for U.S. TikTok, the startups and women's sports ventures he's backing through his VC firm Seven Seven Six, and his approach to raising AI-forward daughters with his wife, tennis legend Serena Williams. Most of all, it asks: what if, in the future, everything breaks humanity's way? Tune in for grounded and speculative takes on how technology—and, in particular, AI—is inspiring change and transforming the future. Hosted by Reid Hoffman and Aria Finger, each episode features an interview with an ambitious builder or deep thinker on a topic, from art to geopolitics and from healthcare to education. These conversations also showcase another kind of guest: AI. Each episode seeks to enhance and advance our discussion about what humanity could possibly get right if we leverage technology—and our collective effort—effectively.

This week, we're re-releasing Erik Torenberg's interview with Alexis Ohanian. Techdirt has finally accepted the inevitable and gone full democracy blog—because let's face it, politics and tech are now the same dumpster fire. Google rolled out AI Mode for Search, proving once again that the internet is just Clippy with better branding. Meanwhile, Billy McFarland insists Fyre Festival 2 is totally happening, despite Mexican officials pointing out that his coordinates literally lead to the ocean. Speaking of fraud, Tesla sales are in freefall thanks to Elon's alt-right cosplay, and people are setting Teslas on fire in protest. And in rich-guy disconnect news, Google's Sergey Brin thinks engineers should work 60-hour weeks to build the AI that will replace them. That's some late-stage capitalism poetry right there.Elsewhere, Trump Media paid Don Jr. nearly a quarter of its revenue to show up twice, while indie musicians can't afford to tour, proving once again that grifting is more profitable than making art. Technicolor shut down overnight, stranding 10,000 workers because Hollywood's financial planning is apparently as stable as a Starship rocket launch. Oh yeah, SpaceX exploded another one.Meanwhile, Netflix's attempt to upscale A Different World turned it into a Lovecraftian horror show. A quarter of Y Combinator startups now run on “vibe coding,” meaning their software is basically a Ouija board with extra steps. The AI takeover continues as OpenAI plans to charge $20,000 monthly for specialized AI "agents," proving once again that the revolution will be monetized. Meanwhile, Moscow's Pravda network has been poisoning Western AI chatbots with Russian propaganda, because if you can't convince humans, just brainwash the robots that humans increasingly trust. On the bright side, hackers brought the Humane AI Pin back to life after it was bricked, transforming an overpriced paperweight into... a slightly less useless overpriced paperweight. ChatGPT can now directly edit code in macOS development tools, making it easier for AI to introduce bugs you never would have thought of yourself. Over At the Library, check out "The Tempest" by Peter Cawdron for your first contact fix, and if you're worried about where society is heading (and who isn't?), Timothy Snyder's "On Tyranny" offers a survival guide for our slow-motion constitutional collapse. Finally, in "everything is fine" news, 82% of indie artists can't afford to tour anymore.Enjoy the dystopia, kids – at least we still have our sense of humor.Sponsors:DeleteMe - Head over to JoinDeleteMe.com/GOG and use the code "GOG" for 20% off.Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. In this episode, Moni and Kat review Zora Neale Hurston's The Life of Herod the Great, a never-before-published novel that challenges the traditional view of King Herod. Hurston portrays him not as the villain of the New Testament but as a visionary leader who enriched Jewish culture and navigated the political chaos of the first century BCE. With rich historical detail and a fresh perspective, the book offers a compelling look at one of history's most misunderstood (and apparently hot) figures. But before they get into the book discussion, there's some Super Bowl business to address! The hosts recap the game, with Moni taking an L after making a bet on the Kansas City Chiefs. They also break down Kendrick Lamar's epic halftime show, discussing its cultural impact and why it was one of the best performances in recent years. This episode has it all, even corrections from last week's episode! Tune in for the laughs, the lessons, and the literary gems. Cheers!

When are we going to start taking black quarterbacks seriously? Yes, Jalen Hurts has become the fourth-ever black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. However, four of the last six Super Bowls were won by black quarterbacks. Jason asks the question: When do we stop acting like the special-needs kids did something remarkable? Even though this Super Bowl was a clunker and borderline unwatchable, Fox, ESPN, and the NFL are reporting that TV ratings indicate this was the most-watched Super Bowl ever. Lies, lies, and more lies. Did you truly think the halftime show was entertaining? No? Deion and Ryan Clark did. They loved it. It all seems like a bad dream. This year's Super Bowl will be remembered as the day the NFL began its decline to NBA-level relevance. Steve Kim joins "Fearless" to discuss the NBA's most relevant story of the past five years. The NBA rebellion has begun. Dallas Mavericks fans are irate over the trade of Luka Dončić. Mavs loyalists are starting to realize how terribly they have been slighted. Mark Cuban is getting cussed out by fans, and the fans are storming the gates. Will we see an NBA revolution? Last but certainly not least, Shemeka Michelle joins the show to address Dank “The Tank” DeMoss' most recent interview on "The Breakfast Club," where she claims that we should all pander to fat people the way we do to the LGBTQ community. Episode 359 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Matt Douglas, Founder & CEO of Sincere. Boston has this legacy reputation that you can't build consumer companies in the area, yet there are so many great companies that have scaled like Wayfair, DraftKings, iRobot, SimpliSafe, and so… so… many more. Plus, don't get me started on how many brands, especially footwear, are located here. Anyway, Sincere is another example of a great consumer company at scale. It is highly likely that you've used one of their products like Punchbowl to plan a party, Timehop to relive past memories, or Memento, where you can collect and preserve memories together for a group video or photo album. Sincere's latest brand is Lovebird, a new platform for the wedding industry which is taking on The Knot and other outdated incumbents and as highlighted in this interview with Matt, there will be more coming from Sincere. In this podcast, we cover: * A discussion around the legacy of an entrepreneur and what led Matt down the path of starting a corporate foundation at Sincere for charitable initiatives. * Matt's background story, growing up with 5 brothers and how he started his entrepreneurial roots early on. * Getting his career started and how he became the youngest Product Manager at Adobe. * His brushes with tech luminaries like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Alexis Ohanian, Justin Kan, and Dharmesh Shah. * The background story of Punchbowl and the three key characteristics he used for building a business. * Why the expansion into the wedding market with Lovebird made sense for the company and how they are differentiating themselves from the competitors. * Matt's philosophy around buying premium domains and a hint about his best 5 letter domain that is not even live yet. * And so much more.

In 2020, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian resigned from his own company in protest. After 15 years building Reddit into a social media juggernaut, why leave? The answer is values. Alexis is the kind of entrepreneur and investor who believes that integrity and long term profits go hand in hand. It's the reason he started his new company 776, allowing him to invest in startups that are trying to make the world a better place. And it's the reason he resigned from Reddit after George Floyd was killed, requesting the board replace him with a Black director. In this conversation, Alexis shares with me his thoughts on the future of entrepreneurship, the race for AGI, climate change, and the principles that guide the way he leads. It turns out, building a business with values is the best thing for long term greed.This...is A Bit of OptimismFor more on Alexis and his work, check out:776alexisohanian.com

Y Combinator has funded over 5,000 companies, 200 of which are now unicorns, including Airbnb, Dropbox, DoorDash, Stripe, Coinbase, and Reddit.
