When Oliver and Hilda Bernier began filming what they thought would be a documentary about inclusive education, they couldn't have predicted the end result. Now, their film “Forget Me Not” just premiered as the headliner of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival in New York, and for good reason. “Forget Me Not” is the incredible story about the rights of disabled students in New York's public schools, told through the personal journey of one family: Hilda, Olivier and their son Emilio, who has Down syndrome. It follows them step by step as they battle with the NYC Department of Education and it's policy of segregating students with disabilities. You can watch this film until MAY 27th through the Human Rights Watch Film Festival or later this fall when it releases internationally! For Olivier and Hilda, this isn't just a story they're telling, it's a story they're living. Don't miss it. __ SHOW NOTES Click here to watch Forget Me Not right now! Rachael’s children’s chapter book The Big Ol’ Bike, is available wherever books are sold. Follow her writing adventures at: www.rachaelclarkewrites.com. Details for The Big Ole Bike are as follows: Description: Big things are happening in Little Springs… Everything about Oliver is small, from his footprint to his glasses—and a trio of bullies never let him forget it. When Oliver receives his grandfather’s old bike for his birthday, he rides tall for the first time. But the meanest bully in school doesn’t like that at all. Oliver quickly finds himself challenged to a race. Now, he’ll have to be bigger than he ever imagined in order to prove heroes come in small packages too. The Big Ol' Bike is a contemporary slice of life for ages 7-10. Come hang out with Oliver, Austin, and Sue, as they experience excitement, setbacks, and adventure together. Themes of bullying, family, friendship, confidence, and community are all explored. WARNING: Reading this book may cause an urgent need to ride your bike. Don’t be alarmed. The feeling will pass... But don't let it. ;) Purchase link: AMAZON.COM: https://www.amazon.com/Big-Ol-Bike-Rachael-Clarke/dp/1647190134/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 BARNES & NOBLE: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-big-ol-bike-rachael-clarke/1138375334?ean=9781647190132 BOOK LOCKER: https://booklocker.com/books/11389.html Connect with Rachael at the following links: https://www.rachaelclarkewrites.com https://www.twitter.com/raclarkewrites https://www.instagram.com/rachaelclarkewrites https://www.facebook.com/rachaelclarkewrites/ To register for the WWJ conferences, visit: https://linktr.ee/wwjs support this podcast with a monthly donation: https://anchorlfm/inspirational-journeys/support or you can give a one-time donation via PayPal at: https://paypal.me/annHarrisonBarnes?locale.x=en_US --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/inspirational-journeys/message

Inspired by trailblazer Shirley Chisholm, New Jersey’s Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver has become a powerful and inspirational leader in her own right and has already left a mark that will last for generations. Sheila Oliver has always been inspired by the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress. She was particularly motivated by a simple but memorable remark that Congresswoman Chisholm made in one of her speeches: “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, then bring a folding chair.” Sheila Oliver has brought several folding chairs during her long and successful career in public service. She started her career as the director of a private nonprofit in Newark, became the president of her local board of education and then was elected a county commissioner. Later, she was the first woman to launch a competitive campaign for mayor of East Orange, N.J., but ended up losing by just 51 votes. “I began to connect the dots about how important it was to encourage people to vote because many people in my town said, ‘Oh, I just knew that was a slam dunk for you. I didn't even vote yesterday,’” Oliver said. She went on to successfully serve in the state Legislature for 16 years. When Oliver was unanimously elected to be the 169th speaker of the New Jersey State Assembly in 2009, she was the first Black woman to hold the position in the state's history. Her election also made her the second Black woman in the nation to lead a state legislative house. Several years later when she served as the lieutenant governor for New Jersey, she became the fourth Black woman in the nation to do so, the first as a Democrat. But her time in public service has not always been easy, especially during the coronavirus pandemic as New Jersey ranked No. 2 among states with COVID-19 cases for many months. Even as the numbers appear to be decreasing, the state still must be cautious about its reopening guidelines for the health and safety of its residents. “We're still on guard,” explained Oliver. “We don't feel quite comfortable that we're beyond it yet. And all of the epidemiologists that we consult with tell us that we are probably going to experience a surge in November.” Listen to the “In The Arena” episode with Sheila Oliver to hear more about her inspirations and achievements, her aspiration to laugh every day and New Jersey’s response to the death of George Floyd. When Oliver and I were on the beach at Wood Islands Provincial Park on Sunday, I recorded just under two minutes of the same of the water lapping against the rocks. You’ll hear birdsong in the background if you listen carefully. An interesting project in these pandemic times would be to stick a permanent microphone at the shore to broadcast sounds of the PEI surf 24/7 to those unable to be on the beach in person.
"Brothers and Sisters" don't always get along. When Oliver finds out that Emiko is trying to avenge her mother, he uses it as a way to build her trust. Trust is built on truth. And that's why Diggle reveals to Oliver that they are using Diaz in their Ghost Initiative. Oliver takes the news surprisingly well, but Felicity is a little less open. She agrees to help ARGUS though, which is good because they are sending in the dastardly crew to corner Dante. To the surprise of pretty much nobody, Diaz betrays them and tries to escape. And despite having him right where they want him, Dante gets away as well. Surprises are around every corner. And they seem to be closely related to Emiko, Dante, and a future Mia Smoak. Jay and Josh shock each other to try to short out ARGUS's chip, before realizing they meant corn chips on this week's Green Justice: An Arrow Podcast! Listen in and justice will be served...to your MP3 player!
Oliver can achieve "The Slabside Redemption" if he manages to stay alive long enough to be released. Ricardo Diaz has been successfully apprehended, but his admission into Slabside didn't go quite as smoothly. After bribing a guard, he acquires his freedom and begins to infiltrate the prison. First, he threatens Oliver and warns him of the chaos to come. When Oliver can't convince anyone of the dangers they're about to face, he has to break out of his cell and prepare. But Diaz gets all the inmates on his side. All except Turner, who Oliver has convinced that he can help him get some leniency. So the two of them make their way through the gauntlet of mad prisoners and save some guards' lives. Once Oliver is able to confront Diaz, the final battle ensues. But who will persevere and come out victorious? Jay and Josh listen to the knocked-out jailbirds sing on this week's Green Justice: An Arrow Podcast! Listen in and justice will be served...to your MP3 player!
Our heroes may be "Crossing Lines" to finally stop Diaz. When Oliver tries to collect the information that Brick owes him after getting stabbed, he's told that the real guy he wants is someone called the Demon. Oliver has to wait for the signal to make contact. But when he tries, the devious con double-crosses him and tries to have his goons take care of our hero once and for all. They fail of course, and Oliver uses Bronze Tiger to confront Brick. But that doesn't go so well either. That's when he finds out the Demon is on a much tougher level of prison. Too bad for the prison guards then, because that's who gets taken out so Oliver can be transferred. Felicity tries to get Agent Watson to do something about Diaz. She finally appeals to her sense of Justice when she, Dinah, and Rene infiltrate CDC against orders. It doesn't go well either. Much like the third honeymoon of Diggle and Lyla. But that sometimes happens when your high-level wife conceals top-secret information from her husband. Jay and Josh try to summon the demon, but probably shouldn't have tried texting him, on this week's Green Justice: An Arrow Podcast! Listen in and justice will be served...to your MP3 player!
Chasing your dream can really pay off...even if you didn’t mean to chase it. That’s the case with Oliver Steffen, who fell into a series of events that turned his hard work into well deserved success. How did all of this play out, though? Oliver Steffen joins us to discuss his practically overnight success with his back country ski products, and all the work it took to get there. Oliver is the founder behind G3, which stands for Genuine Guide Gear. G3 is a global brand that manufactures skins, skis, splitboards, climbing skins, and more! G3 is also the leading brand in the back country ski culture. Bulletpoints In Oliver’s first product production experience, he was given a mere 30 days to make the desired item for the agency! Don’t be afraid of falling in the process. Get back up and keep going! If you worry too much about the consequences, it will hold you back. The idea for Oliver’s company name came from a very straightforward thought process: Genuine Guide Gear. Oliver wanted gear that no one was selling at the time, so he created it himself! When building your idea, ask yourself: “How do I get into the headspace of the person that is going to buy my product.” The million dollar question is: “What do people want?” When Oliver took road trips to present to clients, he slept in his van! Be sure to have patience, and perseverance. Links G3: https://www.genuineguidegear.com/ Oliver Steffen Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/oliver-steffen-74b49928/

Oliver gathered acorns and stacked them near his hole. Then he collected seeds from the grass and carried them into the hole. Then he went to the cornfield to find fallen corn. While Oliver was hard at work, Alistair yawned and leaned against the root of the oak tree. Then he wiped the dust from his shoes with his silk handkerchief. When Oliver returned with some corn, he piled it neatly. "Thank goodness you're done." Alistair collapsed into the wheelbarrow. "Now I'd say it's time for a snack and a nap." Oliver giggled. "The work isn't finished. We still have lots to do before we can rest." Alistair sighed. "I'm simply not cut out for the country life," he said. "A mouse could starve to death here. Come home with me for a while. I'll show you the good life." Alistair packed his silk pajamas into his fine leather suitcase. Oliver packed his long johns into his old carpet bag. The two mice set out for Alistair's home in the city. Oliver followed Alistair over fields and valleys, into dark, noisy subway tunnels, and through crowded streets, until they reached the luxury hotel where Alistair lived. Alistair stopped in front of the door. "Polished marble floors and shiny brass knobs," he said. "Now, this is how mice like us are supposed to live." Oliver stared up at the revolving glass door. "H-h-how do we get inside?" "Wait until the opening comes around, then run through," Alistair replied. The door swing around, and Alistair disappeared inside. It took a few more spins before Oliver gave it a try. Oliver spun around and around in the door until Alistair pulled his carpet bag and got him inside. Oliver followed Alistair across the lobby and through a small crack in the wall hidden by velvet draperies. "My appartment," Alistair said when they were inside. Oliver looked around in amazement. Alistair's home was filled with gold candlesticks, crystal goblets, and linen napkins. "We're under a bandstand." Alistair pointed out of the hole that was his front door. "An orchestra plays, and ladies and gentlemen dance every night until dawn." "How can you sleep with all the noise?' asked Oliver. "Sleep?" said Alistair. "I can sleep during the day. We do things a little differently here. Dinner, for example. At a five-star hotel, dinner begins with hors d'oeuvres." // //
