And of course it also made an indelible mark on us. That is, until Jaws was released. Adapted from a novel by Peter Benchley, Steven Spielberg took on the challenge of filming this movie an the actual ocean with a not-actual shark. It was an overnight success and moviegoers lined up around the block to get terrified of going to the beach. Plus, it spawned a ton of sequels and knock-offs. After this, movies changed forever.
