This week we're celebrating the 40th anniversaries of two horror comedies: Transylvania 6-5000 and Once Bitten. Transylvania 6-5000 (1985) puts Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley Jr. in the middle of a monster mash that plays like an Abbott & Costello routine with Geena Davis, Michael Richards, Carol Kane, and more. We appreciate its goofy charm and almost hysterical jokes. Once Bitten (1985) gave Jim Carrey an early lead role as a teenager targeted by a 400-year-old vampire (Lauren Hutton) who needs his blood to stay young. With Karen Koppins as the girlfriend and a Halloween dance number that steals the show, this comedy is pure ‘80s fun. (even though some of it hasn't aged well. We also sink our teeth into other horror parodies of the decade, including Student Bodies (1981), Saturday the 14th (1981), Wacko (1982), Pandemonium (1982), and National Lampoon's Class Reunion (1982).
