"The Definition of Ghulāt" by Tabriz Gasimov

In this presentation, Tabriz Gasimov revisits the meaning of ghulāt through hadith literature, tracing it to the concept of "lie" (kadhib) — understood as betraying a trust or disclosing confidential teachings — rather than divinization alone. He shows how this reframing suggests some narrators dismissed as ghulāt may in fact be reliable, with implications for re-evaluating core Shi'i doctrines on Tawḥīd and Imamate.

In this presentation, Ammaar Muslim turns to the biographical work Rijāl al-Kashshī as an underused source for studying the early ghulāt, focusing on the contested profile of the Kufan narrator Mufaḍḍal b. ʿUmar al-Juʿfī. Reading the competing reports as polemical literary creations rather than historical record, he shows what they reveal about early ghulāt attitudes toward antinomianism and the true status of the Imams.

In this presentation, Wissam H. Halawi situates Druze doctrine within the long-running tension between esoteric knowledge and legal normativity in early Shi'ism. Show notes provided by Joe PelusoIn JLA issues 43-46 Mark Waid and Howard Porter tell a Justice League of America/Batman centric story that dares to reveal one of comic's most severe and disturbing stories of betrayal. The Batman has hidden from his JLA colleagues his secret protocols: devious and cruel methods that would take down each and everyone of them in the event they should go rogue! With "friends" like that..."  Join your Hosts James, Chris and Joe for a scary look inside thehead of the man who is prepared for everything--except perhaps trusting the people he goes to war with. Both James and Chris, relative newcomers to the annals of The Batman when this story came out, remember this it as shocking and earthshaking. Joe was shocked because this tale was so far afield from the camp era Batman he discovered in his childhood. At the time this story hit comic shops in the spring of 2000, most "batmaniacs" were praising The Batman for his brutal and calculating ways! But were they, and your Mint crew, taken in by the histrionics of The Dark Knight, and thus did they subsequently miss the whole point of this story--BETRAYAL!   When the villainous Ra's al Ghul gets possession of these plans, the entire world faces extinction because one obsessed man--abrilliant tactician--could not foresee his "wisdom" being used against him and his friends  The guys take all this into account and even delve into the mind of this tormented loner, and ask the BIG question: Does The Batman have friends?Does he even need friends to carry on his crusade against evil?  As the story progresses, both the JLA members and the planet Earth fight for existence. Naturally a resolution that saves the day is reached, but where does the now exposed Batman stand on terms with colleagues? If you have already read this monumental story, there is a vote to determine if The Batman remains a member of the JLA, if not, some of the yay and nay votes may surprise you, as well as the outcome.   And then there's the bigger question of the future ripplingramifications this story had on The Batman since itspublication.Hopefully after you have listened to this very sober and solemn podcast (Oh, don't worry it's still a fun listen.) wedefinitely would like to hear your thoughts on The Batman's great betrayal. Brilliance, intelligence and tenacity are great qualities to utilize when taking on evil, but a trusted friend at your side is the ultimate asset to winning the day.

Is Rodney Barnes returning to the podcast? Why does Rodney like Cody so much? Is Anthony blowing up in the comic book world? How would we rank the first 3 Absolute series? Is this a fresh take on Superman? How was Superman's lore changed for this series? Is Clark Kent not an element in this story? Is this Superman anti-AI? Does a big part of this volume take place on Krypton? Is this a Superman for the working class people? Does this section of the Absolute universe reflect our own world more than the others? Are the Peacemakers equivalent to ICE? Could new readers easily jump into the Absolute Universe? How does it also appeal to legacy readers? How do Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen compare to their original versions? What role does Ras al Ghul play in this comic? Should villains for one hero cross over to other heroes? Who is Absolute Lieutenant Dan? Does the Absolute Univefsr feel cyberpunk? Who is Omega Prime? What Absolute series that hasn't been announced yet would we like to see? What is Absolute Evil? [School of Movies 2025] After the harsh, oppressive atmosphere of I Saw the TV Glow we turn to an altogether funnier tale of trans discovery with Vera Drew's semiautobiographical, anarchic reshaping of DC's Clown Princess of Crime. From the painfully normalising cornfields of Smallville, Kansas comes a child who asks their alarmed mother "Was in born in the wrong body?". The only possible response to this is of course sessions at Arkham Asylum with Doctor Crane and a prescription of Smilex to chase that depression and anxiety away. We follow this confused young person to Gotham, where they find their calling in a thinly-veiled Saturday Night Live setup, doing stand-up comedy alongside The Penguin, Ra's al Ghul and a trans-masc chap named Mr J, riffing hard on both fallen Robin Jason Todd and Jared Leto's Joker. Our hero gives themselves the mantle of Joker the Harlequin... and comedy in Gotham will never be the same! This movie was pulled together during lockdown, and thrives on a garage-punk, scrapbook style that energetically propels you through the troubled life of someone just trying to be themselves in a loud, chaotic world.
