In this episode, Alex spoke to Chloe and Ally, the founders of Mind Station, about the importance of social and emotional learning for children. We met the four members of 'The Brain Team'; Piko the pre frontal cortex, Ava the Amygdala, Vee the Visual Cortex, and Harv the Hippocampus, and talked about how being aware of what each brain member does can empower children (and adults!). The teaching Chloe and Ally do is aimed at children, but trust me - all of us can gain a lot from this episode! Mind Station aims to reinstate the human connection in education, by inspiring children to become conductors of their own minds. Chloe and Ally have done this by giving children the tools they need to self-regulate and manage challenges of everyday life, and by enhancing children's self-confidence and self-belief. On this week's Empress Hour, we spoke to Jenise Spiteri, the first snowboarder to represent Malta at the 2022 Olympics. She began snowboarding at age 18 and battled incredible odds to qualify for the Games, such as living in her van (with no heating!), hiking over a mile daily up a mountain for weeks to train, and competing/training on a blown out knee for a whole season. Jenise won over our hearts in Beijing, embodying the Olympic dream and eating a red bean paste bun after one of her runs. Listening to her, it's hard not to be inspired by her determination - "I'm not a natural athlete, I'm just really stubborn".
