To want a leaner body that's still healthy and still have freedom with food?"You've probably asked yourself that same question, or a variation like... “Does wanting weight loss mean I'm not truly committed to food freedom?”“Am I even able to pursue intuitive eating if I want to lose weight?”“Am I sabotaging my healing because of the desire to lose weight?”So in this episode, we're answering that question! When we've tried all the diets, the rigorous training programs, expensive supplementation and still feel like we cannot climb the mountain of aesthetic or health hopes, it might be time to look inward rather than outward. This introspection is one of the most avoided, yet vital, steps in truly making a lifestyle change. It goes beyond dropping a few pounds for that vacation or slimming down for a wedding. Instead of looking outward again (new diet, new program, more supps, new trainer, different gym, etc.) we must take the uncomfortable, potentially dark, look inward. It's painful because it involves coming to a legitimate realization that our harmful eating habits stem from places we don't like to discuss or question: societal/cultural conditioning, upbringing, scarcity, traumatic events, low self-worth, mental/emotional disorders, etc. This realization, then the subsequent unlearning and habitual rewiring, is a process that cannot be solved by simply trying another new diet. It may involve cognitive therapy, self-forgiveness, medication, or even an intervention. This can be related to both overeating and undereating. If we're not moving in the right direction with our health and eating habits, it's because the unhealed roots are still firmly in place, and without addressing these roots and severing them, we go nowhere.(I'm not qualified to diagnose nor address any psychological/behavioral issues, this is strictly awareness content.)Contact Mike:Mike Sinopoli - NASM Certified Nutrition CoachInstagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn: @mfswellnessemail: mike@mfswellness.comphone: 630-361-4907www.mfswellness.com
How we care for ourselves is inextricably connected to how we lead.In a culture where we moralize health and sell wellness as a symbol of worth, where we're obsessed with productivity and optimization, our relationships with food and our bodies go beyond personal struggles. They shape how we lead, how we show up for others, and how we define success. When leaders model extreme routines, restrictive regimens, or performance-based wellness, they may unintentionally perpetuate shame and comparison–even if they intend to inspire or be helpful. This isn't a dismissal of health. Caring for our bodies, feeding ourselves well, and seeking movement that feels good and helps our bodies be strong are powerful acts of self-respect. But when an obsession with performance and purity–whether through hustle culture or “clean” living–erodes our self-trust and amplifies our inner critics, it becomes a leadership issue.Today's guest is an eating disorder specialist who understands how shame, perfectionism, and chronic striving get tangled up in how we feed and care for ourselves, and how we show up in the world. Unburdening our relationship with food and body isn't just about health; it's a powerful leadership move.As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Jeanne Catanzaro has specialized in treating eating issues and trauma for close to 30 years. She trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) before discovering the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. Dr. Catanzaro served as the director of a day treatment program for eating disorders for two years and is currently the Vice President of the Internal Family Systems Institute. She is the author of the book, Unburdened Eating: Healing Your Relationships with Food and Your Body Using an Internal Family Systems Approach.Listen to the full episode to hear:Why unburdening our relationship with food and body is a continual process, not a three-step planHow to approach your motivations for how you eat and exercise with curiosity and compassionHow diet culture isn't just about weight, but reflects wider cultural and systemic beliefs about bodies, health, beauty, and worthHow value judgments about how we and others eat protect us from vulnerability and reinforce hierarchiesWhy it's impossible to fixate on your own body without your self-judgment rubbing off onto othersCommon wellness traps that can feed our inner managers and protectors at the expense of our core self-knowledgeLearn more about Dr. Jeanne Catanzaro:WebsiteUnburdened Eating: Healing Your Relationships with Food and Your Body Using an Internal Family Systems ApproachLearn more about Rebecca:rebeccaching.comWork With RebeccaThe Unburdened Leader on SubstackSign up for the weekly Unburdened Leader EmailResources:Health Food Junkies Orthorexia Nervosa: Overcoming the Obsession with Healthful Eating, Steven Bratman, David KnightHealth At Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight, Lindo BaconHealth at Every Size® (HAES®) Principles – ASDAHSelf-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself, Dr. Kristin NeffJessica WilsonSonya Renee TaylorSabrina StringsDa'Shaun HarrisonJessica KnurickEvelyn TriboleWhy Can't Americans Sleep? - Jennifer Senior, The AtlanticOriginal Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, Jake Tapper, Alex ThompsonCeleste, Pete KuzmaLincoln's DilemmaThe Great British Baking ShowThe Breakfast ClubThe Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star

Have you ever caught yourself saying, “I know that”?In this episode of Make Peace with Food, I explore the three most dangerous words that can sabotage your growth, your healing, and even your relationship with food. These words might seem harmless, but they instantly shut down your ability to learn, absorb, and embody change.Over my 25 years of coaching, I've seen how often people already “know” what to do to improve their health—but still can't get the results they want. The truth is, knowing is not the same as embodying. And when we close ourselves off with “I know that,” we miss the exact lessons that could transform everything.I'll share why keeping an open mind allows us to hear familiar concepts in new, life-changing ways, how mentorship and coaching act as shortcuts to success, and why releasing the ego and surrendering to learning are essential for lasting transformation.Tune in now to hear the full episode and challenge yourself to drop the phrase “I know that” so you can open the door to transformation.Topics Covered"Why “I know that” is the ultimate self-sabotage phrase. The difference between knowing and embodying. How hearing the same lesson at different stages of life lands differently. Why hiring a coach can accelerate your growth and reveal blind spots. The importance of staying curious and open to new perspectives.

Feeling stuck in the "waiting room" of recovery? You're not alone. If you've been telling yourself you'll start living your life "when you're better," this episode is for you. Recovery coach Lindsey Nichol gets real about why your eating disorder wants you to wait—and why you don't have to. In this intimate 10-minute conversation, she shares three concrete steps you can take today to start pursuing your dreams, even in the messy middle of healing your relationship with food. This episode is for you if: You've put dreams on hold until you're "recovered enough" Recovery feels like two steps forward, four steps back You're tired of life passing you by while you struggle in secret You need hope that recovery is possible, even when it feels impossible What You'll Discover ✨ Why waiting for "perfect recovery" is just another way your eating disorder controls your life ✨ The mindset shift from "waiting to recover" to "living your recovery" ✨ Real client story: How one woman realized she was using recovery as an excuse to stay small ✨ 3 immediate steps you can take today to start making life happen instead of waiting for it ✨ Permission to pursue your purpose even when healing isn't linear The 3 Steps to Start Living While Healing Step 1: Name One Dream You've Put on Hold Get honest about one thing you've been telling yourself you'll do "when you're better." Don't judge it—just name it. Step 2: Take the Smallest Possible Step Not the perfect step, not the biggest step—the smallest step. The eating disorder wants all-or-nothing; recovery is built on tiny, consistent actions. Step 3: Remind Yourself: "I Am Living My Recovery" Shift from waiting to live until recovery is complete to understanding that living IS part of your recovery. Powerful Moments from This Episode "Your eating disorder wants you to wait. It wants you to believe that you need to be 'fixed' before you're worthy of pursuing your dreams." "Life doesn't pause while you figure out your relationship with food. Your dreams don't go on hold. Your purpose doesn't wait." "You don't have to wait until those hard days are gone to start living. You don't have to have it all figured out to take up space in this world." "Your eating disorder is not your whole story. It's not even the most interesting part of your story." Client Spotlight Hear from one of Lindsey's current clients who had a breakthrough realization: "I keep thinking I need to wait until I'm 'recovered enough' to apply for that role, to book that trip with my friends. But I'm realizing that waiting for perfect recovery is just another way the eating disorder is controlling my life." Key Takeaways

I wrote 'I Regret not Taking Ozempic' on my Substack and after the HUGE response, I thought it'd be prudent to revisit this conversation with the addiction, parenting and relationship expert Mandy Saligari. In it we discuss the complicated relationship we can have with food and our bodies. Whether it's food addiction or something a little more complicated and why a distorted relationship with food can also show up in how you manage love and money...
Ever feel like your thoughts about food are nonstop?Like… you're constantly thinking about what you should or shouldn't eat, even when you're not hungry? That's food noise, and those unwanted, intrusive thoughts about food that can seriously mess with your day-to-day life.I've had plenty of my own experiences with food noise (especially my early mom years when I chose to regularly dig my son's pizza crust out of the trash - yep, true story)!! Diet culture really created shame around food for me, and I felt like I needed to fear (and avoid) carbs all together if I wanted to be “healthy”.The truth is, we shouldn't be putting a “bad” label on certain foods - it's total BS! We SHOULD fuel our bodies effectively and consistently, and get curious about what's really behind our cravings. This isn't about more willpower - it's about more awareness, intention, and compassion. You're NOT broken, and it is possible to heal your relationship with food!In this episode, we cover:What food noise actually is + how it's different from food cuesThe truth about willpower (*hint* you're not “failing” around food)My personal story w/eating my son's pizza crust out of the trashHow learning about macros & “fuel” helped me quiet the food noiseSimple ways to start shifting your relationship with foodWhy healing food noise is SO much deeper than foodLinks/Resources:Listen to The Unseen Obstacle in Your Fitness Journey: FOOD NOISE!!!Ep. 191 | Body Dysmorphia: The Struggle No One Talks About + Why It Doesn't Disappear at Your “Goal Weight”Ep. 38 | The Hard Truth About Disordered EatingJoin FIT CLUB, my monthly membership with workouts you can do at home or the gymPRIVATE COACHING is my 1:1 program (choose 3 or 6 month option)Connect with me on Instagram @kristycastillofit and @unfuckyourfitnesspodcast so we can keep this conversation going-be sure to tag me in your posts and stories!Join my FREE Facebook group, Unf*ck Your FitnessClick HERE for my favorite fitness & life things!Send me a text with episode ideas or just to say hi! Today, we're exploring a relationship we all have—but often misunderstand: our relationship with food. My guest is psychotherapist and author Andrea Oskis, whose work unpacks how the way we eat reflects the way we feel, especially when it comes to attachment, control, and emotional safety.Andrea helps us understand why food becomes a stand-in for comfort, connection, or even self-worth—particularly for those struggling with anxiety, trauma, or disordered eating. This episode is a deeply human look at how our earliest relationships shape our habits around the table, and how healing your attachment story might just transform your relationship with food too.Find Andrea:Website: https://cupboard-love.co.uk/Read The Kitchen Shrink: https://cupboard-love.co.uk/ask-andreaStay Connected with Hurt to Healing:Instagram: instagram.com/hurttohealingpodTikTok: tiktok.com/@hurttohealingpodLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/hurt-to-healingSubstack: substack.com/@hurttohealingWebsite: hurttohealing.co.uk Hosted on Acast. And if you've been beating yourself up about that, maybe it's time you stopped. In this episode, I take a flamethrower to the feel-good fantasy of someday reaching the mystical land where food is just food, moderation is natural, and donuts in the freezer don't haunt you at 1am.Sound depressing? What if emotional eating is holding you back from manifesting the life you truly desire? In this episode of the Manifested podcast, Kathleen Cameron and Amber Romaniuk delve into the profound connection between emotional eating and manifestation. Kathleen shares her personal struggles with emotional eating, revealing how subconscious triggers influenced her habits and how healing those parts of herself led to profound personal transformation. Amber opens up about her own journey, showing how overcoming binge eating sparked her passion to help others heal from similar struggles. Together, they dive into the prevalence of emotional eating among women, the role hormones play in emotional triggers, and how societal conditioning fuels these behaviors. A key focus of the conversation is the importance of self-love, as both Kathleen and Amber emphasize the need to understand your unique emotional triggers and practice mindfulness to foster lasting change. This episode is for you if you've ever struggled with emotional eating, are ready to break free from old habits, or want to heal your relationship with food and yourself. Discussed in this episode: Emotional eating is often a symptom of subconscious beliefs and is not purely driven by a lack of willpower. Hormonal imbalances, stress, and societal habits contribute significantly to emotional eating tendencies, especially in women. Healing emotional eating requires embracing self-love and recognizing one's own worth beyond physical appearance. Understanding the distinction between physical hunger and emotional cravings is essential for modifying eating habits. About the guest: Amber Romaniuk is an Expert in Emotional Eating, Digestive Health, and Hormone Balance, with 11 years of experience helping high-achieving women cultivate body confidence, intuition, and optimal health through powerful mindset healing, self-care, and overcoming self-sabotage with food. She does this by addressing the key negative thoughts, patterns, and limiting beliefs that keep women stuck in the same behaviors for years and decades that they haven't been able to break. Her podcast, “The No Sugarcoating Podcast,” has garnered over 2 million downloads, spanning more than 500 episodes, and is listened to in 88 countries worldwide. Amber overcame her own emotional eating after gaining and losing more than 1000 lbs and spending over $50,000 on binge foods and spending 5 years balancing her hormones, digestion. She also dismantled her deeply limiting beliefs and behaviors that kept her stuck in the same looping patterns. Now she helps others achieve the most profound healing miracles of Body Freedom™, so they have the confidence and health to create amazing lives.
