Mandibular condylar fracture is the most frequent fracture site competing with the body of the mandible, with over 80% being unilateral. Despite their common occurrences, they present some of the biggest management challenges for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. In this podcast, we have conducted a painstaking review of articles to present some evidence to help make an educated decision on when and how to manage a unilateral condylar fracture. Coronectomy, a procedure involving intentional removal of dental crown while leaving the root in situ, is becoming more widely accepted treatment plan for mandibular third molars. In this talk, we help define and explain the rationale behind coronectomy based on current literature. We will discuss evidence based indications for treatment planning mandibular third molars with increased risk of nerve injury based on two- and three-dimensional imaging.
