Sermons from John Musgrave M.Div., Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando B.A., Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio
In this life, things are not as they should be. God shows us through Elijah what we need to “get through.”
To be faithful to the end, God gives Christians five means--five easy things--which as a regular part of our lives, make us faithful to Him to the end.
The kingdom of the world persecutes the Christian, and this can weigh on him or her, even to the point of distress and depression. Elijah, David, Jesus, and Paul all experienced persecution and mental anguish, and their experiencing it, too, gives us hope.
Gods are everywhere. Choose wisely, for the consequences are significant.
We can have false gods today even when we are Christians. What is a god?
Christians will go through various tribulations for being faithful, Jesus said. From Elijah and Obadiah, we get insight in how to navigate them.
Followers of the one, true God have experienced tribulation since the days of Abel, and will experience it until Jesus returns.
Life has plenty of hardships! Here's how to respond.
Evangelize those outside the Church. Also, trust Him in walking according to His commands. This is some of what we learn from Elijah and the widow of Zarephath.
Life for the Christian is exile, with accompanying hardships. Yet God protects and provides for His people in the midst of them.
The less we sin, the more we have peace in our lives.
The foremost message of the gospel is not that you can get your sins forgiven nor that Jesus can be your savior, though both of these things are true. The gospel is foremost the offer that Jesus can be your king. Here, we examine why the message of Jesus as your king is (the) good news—the gospel.
One of the reasons we pursue faithfulness over sin is that our sin affects those who depend on us, including those we love.
Grace was not free. The sins of believers faced the justice of God at a Roman cross.
Jesus, the faithful king of the Church, brings unity and well-being to His people, as they are loyal to Him.
Regarding eternity, blessing is based on Jesus' wholehearted devotion to His Father, and your having faith in Jesus . A person's devotion to Jesus or lack thereof leads to blessing or hardship for his or her family.
God is seeking to rescue you from disaster when he tells you to marry only within the Faith.
In His kindness, God warns His people to marry only those who also have faith in His Son.
God is sovereign over all things, and prefers to bless (but will deliver on threats of disaster, too), so walking in faithfulness (believing Him and living by His commands) is the way to go.
God is gracious. An examination of ways in which God's graciousness gets spread on believers' lives and on the lives of others.
The Bible is truth with an effect. Walk in faithfulness as a child of God, and experience blessing from Him.
Jesus shows us that safety in life and death is through having faith in Him and in being faithful in this life.
The Father initiated reconciliation with us when we were hostile toward Him. He did this by sending Jesus to earth. This is the gospel, and it directs our actions whenever we have discord in a relationship, especially a relationship with another believer.
Jesus reigns from heaven for the good of believers, yet hardships still come their way. Scripture speaks of this, explains this, and tells us how to endure.
In the midst of life that will have many sorrows and many things that are unfair, God commends to His people to enjoy life, as they remember Him in all they do.
Solomon's message, at his life's conclusion: Sin is stupid and will bring bitterness; the key to happiness is remembering your Creator in all you do.
If Jesus is your king functionally, you will dominate your sin nature in life, and your eternal adversary, Satan, will hold no dominance over you.
The life of the Christian: suffering now, then entering glory; and: why it is that not everyone receives the gospel, though it's the best news they'll ever hear.
The scene of Palm Sunday is that of God the Father making known His selection for king. We learn from this scene we are right to have Jesus as our king, to praise Jesus, and to love those who persecute us.
If Jesus is your king through your faith in Him, your eternal blessing is secure. But, in this life, you can bring great trouble on yourself and the ones around you.
With Jesus as one's king, one enjoys a measured degree of prominence over life now, and will live in Jesus' prominence over the whole earth when He returns.
Solomon's greatness is a preview to the greatness of Jesus, and how He, as king, is great for His people, now and when He returns.
A person need not have a background nor upbringing in the Church to believe in Jesus. The Queen of Sheba, in Solomon's day, shows how this is so.
When one is great, he is brought tribute. Jesus is great and has done great things for His people. Therefore, are always to give Him tribute. Here are four ways Scripture directs us to do so.
While having a king can be a really bad thing, having Jesus as your king should make you happy.
Christianity's God, Jesus Christ, is amazing. Here we look at His amazing wisdom, sacrifice, and “palace."
The Greatness of Jesus as King (part two), 1 Kings 9.10-28 by John Musgrave
Christians are citizens of Christ's kingdom on earth, the Church, and the good news about this, as Jesus said, was that He--Jesus--is our king. See in this sermon how Solomon both prefigures this and helps us to learn more about Jesus and His kingship over Christians.
The Bible and our lives are full of examples of some who fade in their once-strong faith. This warns us about our capacity to do the same. Here we examine what God says we can do to remain faithful till life's end.
Human beings were created to worship God. When we do, we experience joy and gladness of heart.
Every person will rise or fall based on what he does with Jesus.
Jesus is proclaimed by the Bethlehem angels to be a savior.
Christianity is based in a real, historical person, who is God and is worshipped. This sets us apart from all other religions.
Blessing in life and after life come by belief and association with Jesus.
God chooses and favors those the world deems insignificant.
God is good to those who are in His Son's kingdom. This brings Him glory, and benefits believers.
God emphasizes having our hearts toward Him, as our hearts control our whole persons.
God's might today can be seen in the change He makes in believers. This might, seen in our changed lives, can cause some unbelievers to take notice, and even to believe in Jesus.
God brings Christians hardship, for two reasons and one good purpose.
There's always a way to come back into the Church, though it's simpler and better for you just to stay in.
