Hey everyone I'm Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia.“The Christ of John's Gospel” has been our theme for the past couple of months teachings with a focus on John's unique portrayal of the Christ.Today we are talking about The Promise of The Holy Spirit.Saying goodbye can be difficult.People struggle with the words when a friend or family member will be going away for a long period of time.Likewise, the disciples had a hard time saying farewell to the Master.Jesus had prepared them for the fact of His death, but they were not willing to accept this reality. The closer the time came for Jesus' departure, the more they recognised the reality. The Lord and His disciples had a difficult time leaving each other.Jesus told the disciples that His departure would be only for a short time. John 14:19, “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.Jesus promised that He would be with His disciples in the power and presence of His Spirit. In other words, Jesus Himself would be present with His disciples in another manner.Maybe believers need to examine the promise Jesus gave to His disciples about the Holy Spirit. We need not be discouraged because the physical presence of Jesus is not with us.He is present in the Holy Spirit. We need to understand this and celebrate His presence!Until next timeStay in the BlessingsI really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer.Theres nothing thats too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body! You're important to God, and you're important to us at The Refinery. When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you.So whatever you're concerned about and need prayer for we want to be here for you! Hey everyone and welcome to Refinery Life Australia.Today we continue our series titled The Christ of John's Gospel. In times like these, we are in need of God's guidance more than ever.Today we are talking about Going in the right direction.Driving down a one way street in the wrong direction is a frustrating experience. It seems to happen to me on a regular basis depending what country I am in. And every time I am met with irritated drivers as I try and turn around which adds to my misery and embarrassment. Now I carefully note each turn to ensure I go in the right direction.Jesus talked about the direction of His life.It involved a cross.Yet He taught the disciples that the cross was the way of life for the world.Thomas was not so sure he knew the right direction, so he asked in John 14:5, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”And we all know Jesus' response, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.Going the right direction through life is important. It is a joyful experience.Let's learn the instructions for how to travel the right direction in life.Until next timeStay in the BlessingsI really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. This is very important and relevant for right now in 2025.We are looking at the world that we find ourselves in and are acutely aware of the spiritual battle that rages, the battle between the good and evil, light and darkness. The spiritual forces of darkness are on assignment to kill, steal and destroy the hopes, dreams and destiny's of Gods children, and while all of this plays out we can be prepared and stand in the whole armor of God. Welcome to Refinery Life Australia. “The Christ of John's Gospel” is the theme we are continuing for the coming Sunday morning teachings that focus on John's unique portrayal of the Christ. We will continue this series for a while longer. Today we are discussing, The Distinctives of Discipleship. What does it really mean to follow Jesus? Somehow in the early part of the twenty first century, people have lost sight of what it means to follow Jesus. Discipleship is linked to external observance of religion rather than a relationship experience with Jesus Christ. During Jesus' life and ministry on earth, many people sought to follow Him. John 8:30, 30 As He spoke these words, many believed in Him. Any motives moved to associate with Jesus Christ. Some were infatuated with His miracles and teachings. Others were just curious. Jesus did not want people to follow Him outside the motive of a genuine commitment. To distinguish the authentic followers, Jesus gave the distinctive qualities of a true disciple. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. Welcome to The Refinery Accomplished people will tell you that goal setting is essential to achieving success in any worthy endeavour. That's all very well, but as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ we have an opportunity to engage in goals that produce eternal fruit, and are fulfilling here, and now. We use the word goal, which doesn't sit comfortably with me, because setting goals is not the way of God. But, hear me out… it's the context and word used in todays key verse. The goal we are talking about is spoken about by the apostle Paul in Philippians 3:13–14 So what goal was Paul targeting? Simply put, Christian maturity. For the remainder of his life on earth, after that incredible conversion on the Road to Damascus, Paul was committed to the passionate pursuit of this singular ambition. The English Standard Version describes the goal we press toward as “the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14, ESV).  God has called all of us upward toward His heavenly kingdom through an intimate relationship with His Son. Welcome to Refinery Life Australia. “The Christ of John's Gospel” has been our theme for the past couple of months teachings with a focus on John's unique portrayal of the Christ. We will continue this series for a little while longer while God is holding us here. Today we are discussing, Christ and Time. Getting the verb tenses correct when it comes to Jesus is a difficult task. You can say, “He was,” for He lives in history. You can say, He is,” because He lives today. You can say, “He will be,” as He will always exist. Jesus is eternal. Think of the bewilderment of the Jews when Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I am.” He used a striking contrast, didn't He, “was and am. This “I am” saying gives us insight into Christ and time. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. Theres nothing thats too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body! You're important to God, and you're important to us at The Refinery. When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you. What Do You Think of Sin?

Hi everyone I'm Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. “The Christ of John's Gospel” is the theme for the coming Sunday Morning  teachings that focus on John's unique portrayal of the Christ. We will continue this series through to the end of the year. Today we are discussing, What Do You Think of Sin? Jesus had a lot to say about sin. One example from His ministry that we can study is His encounter with a sinful woman. Some Scribes and Pharisees were going to stone her because she had been caught in the act of adultery. But just before they were about to stone her, Jesus stooped and wrote on the ground. His words and action convicted the woman's accusers, and they left. John writes, in John 8:10-11, When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” From this incident we can learn much about sin. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. Hey everyone and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. “The Christ of John's Gospel” is the theme for the coming Sunday Morning teachings that focus on John's unique portrayal of the Christ. We will continue this series through to the end of the year. Today we are discussing, The Audience Response to the Preacher. Preaching plays an important role in the life of a church. Congregations demand helpful sermons. They also expect thorough preparation, effective delivery, and decisions from the sermon. In return the preacher expects a listening, responsive audience. The hearing of an audience plays an important part in a sermon. Jesus told a parable about how people listened to and received the gospel message. He told of a sower who was sowing seed. Some seed fell by the wayside, some amid thorns, some on rocky soil, and some on good ground. From this parable we could say that every sermon has a response of some kind. Jesus was a masterful preacher. The He preached, people responded. Today let's have a look at the different responses to His sermons. A famous preacher once asked, “What is worse than having no religion?”   Then after a pause, he answered his own question, “Having no religion is bad, but having the wrong kind of religion is even worse.” I believe having a sick religion may be worse than having no religion at all.  Jesus was concerned with sick religion as indicated by his driving the money changes out of the temple.  Much of Judaism had gotten sick, and the Great Physician Himself had come to bring healing.  What did Jesus see in the temple that caused such aggressive action? The dominant note in verses 1:1-18 is the greatness of Christ. These verses could be a home composed by John under the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Its a marvel in word choices, beginning, word, life, light, witness, glory, grace, and truth. It is also a marvel in arrangement, the Word and God, the Word and the world, the Word and the flesh. John commences his story of Jesus not with a narrative about birth, wise men, or John the Baptist.  He begins it with a song of praise. Its a home worthy of our study, so let's examine its teachings. A Prayer of Praise and Thanksgiving.

Welcome to The Refinery. “Amen and Amen” has been the theme for the last few Sundays. This series is a study from the Psalms, in which the psalmist gives voice to prayers that resound in our hearts today. Today we are discussing, A Prayer of Praise and Thanksgiving. Prayer is first of all an approach to God and not the presentation of a celestial shopping list. We come first to give rather than to take, offer rather than to request. The psalmist described the priority of prayer, “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” In prayer we should approach the loving Father with our praise and thanksgiving. This is the picture true worship found in Relation 4:9-11 NKJV The four living creatures praise the Lord and give “glory and honour and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” Entering into prayer with praise and thanksgiving brings the results we pray for. Hey everyone and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. “Amen and Amen” has been the theme for the last few Sundays. This series is a study from the Psalms, in which the psalmist gives voice to prayers that resound in our hearts today. Today we are discussing, A Prayer for Divine Correction. A devotional study of the Psalms can be particularly helpful in nourishing our faith and assisting us in our prayer life. Psalm 139 emphasises that God has unlimited knowledge and also that God is always and everywhere present. This great psalm celebrates the truth that God is our Creator. It closes with a prayer against the wicked and a prayer for divine correction as the psalmist faced the present and the future. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. The Prayers of a Depressed Saint.

Hey everyone I'm and welcome to The Refinery. “Amen and Amen” is the theme for the coming Sunday mornings. This series is a study from the Psalms, in which the psalmist gives voice to prayers that resound in our hearts today. Today we are discussing, The Prayers of a Depressed Saint. The Psalms present a record of the life of God's people in all of its dimensions. In the Psalms, we find high worship experiences in which praise is being offered to God, but we also find sorrow and grief. We find perplexing questions and expressions of faith. But we also find expressions of despair. Psalm 13, for instance, presents the prayer of a man in deep depression. Today we know that depression can be the result of many different factors. Some people have a tendency toward depression due to hereditary factors. Others experience deep depression because of a chemical imbalance. Depression may be caused by someone close. It may be because of a negative way of thinking. Depression is often the result of weariness and physical exhaustion. Some experience depression because of utter helplessness. Depression can accompany illness. Others experience depression as death approaches. All of us experience some depression because of impatience. Devine chastisement is also a cause for depression. Maybe this was the reason David was depressed and wrote this psalm. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. Welcome to The Refinery. “Amen and Amen” is the theme for the coming few Sunday mornings. This series is a study from the Psalms, in which the psalmist gives voice to prayers that resound in our hearts today. Today we are discussing, Amen and Amen. Amen is a transliteration of the Hebrew word into both Greek and English. Amen means “faithful” in reference to God, His testimonies, and His promises. At times the people of God used amen to express their assent to a law and to their willingness to submit to the penalty attached to a breach of that law. Amen is also used to express agreement with another's prayers. It is also used by some to show agreement when another is offering thanks to God. These verses would suggest that we need to let others help us with our prayers. That is, when someone else prays a prayer that expresses the deep desires of our heart, it is permissible and proper that we say “Amen” either audibly or inaudibly. The psalmist offered up many petitions to which we can say, amen. Hey everyone I'm Gary Hoban and welcome to The Refinery. Go tell it to the mountains is the theme for the next few Sunday mornings, and emphasises the need for modern day followers of Christ to broadcast the good news that was proclaimed so dramatically at the time of His birth. Today's message is, The Joy of Living. Talking about joy in today's world is a difficult thing to do. Almost everyone we meet is unhappy with their jobs, and where they live. Joy seems to have vanished from our world. Look at the faces of the people around yours you go about your day, you will probably see many frowns. Listen to people's conversations, you will probably hear complaints and arguing. What can bring joy to living? Jesus wanted people to have joy. He said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. What kind of joy was Jesus talking about? Today's message is, The Motive for Telling the Good News. The angels hung out over the battlements of heaven to announce the good news that Jesus Christ was born. The Peace Of The Church.

Welcome to The Refinery. The Church The Body of Christ has been the theme for the last few Sunday's. These messages are primarily based around Paul's letter to the Ephesians. Today we are discussing, The Peace Of The Church.I read a story recently of a pastor - evangelist who was holding meetings in a small rural town in Kentucky back in the 1940's. He was in the home of one of the oldest families in the area  and to his delight, he discovered that some member of the family had been a deacon in that church for more than 100 years. Think of that legacy for the family, someone throughout the generations had been serving in the local church for more than 100 years. The church had kept records since 1839, when it first started, and it was in the family's care. For the visiting pastor, the book was interesting reading. In the minutes of almost every business meeting, the same entry appeared. “The peace of the church was called for.” The visiting pastor was told that the moderator of the business meetings would ask, “Brethren, are we at peace?” No one knew what might follow. I have no doubt that their meetings were interesting and well attended. But whatever the shortcomings of these people, in what ever way they may have fallen short, they sincerely tried to carry out the literal words of our text. They meant to have peace if they had to fight with each other to obtain it. If these people were too strict when it comes to church discipline, perhaps our churches today are too soft, too lazy. Who else besides a plain, simple, New Testament church, where every member is equal in rank and privilege with every other member, a pure democracy, would even have the privilege of being at war among themselves. Sometimes a churches like a shallow, clear mountain stream where every ripple can be seen. At other times, a church may be like a deep, muddy river, calm and placid on the surface but torn by dangerous undercurrents. “Be at peace among yourselves.” This text provokes three important questions. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. Welcome to The Refinery. The Church The Body of Christ is the theme for the next few Sunday's. These messages are primarily based around Paul's letter to the Ephesians. Today we are discussing, Christ, The Head Of The Church. Paul was concerned about making clear the relationship of Christ with His people. Sometimes his emphasis was on Christ's people, His church, as His body. At other times, Paul's emphasis was on Christ as the head, or Lord, of His church. Exodus 17:8-13 NKJV Victory over the Amalekites 8 Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” 10 So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses' hands became [a]heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. The Goal of the Church.

Welcome to The Refinery. The Church The Body of Christ is the theme for the next few Sunday's. These messages are primarily based around Paul's letter to the Ephesians. Today we are discussing, The Goal of the Church. Ephesians 4:7-16 NKJV Spiritual Gifts 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.  8 Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” 9 (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also [a]first descended into the lower parts of the earth?  10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,  12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the [b]edifying of the body of Christ,  13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;  14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,  15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—  16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. The total impression of this passage from Ephesians 4 is that Christ has a goal, a supreme standard for His church, and that goal is so high, so exalted that it taxes the imagination to comprehend it. Nonetheless, here and now, in the body of this flesh, we are to strive to attain it. Specifically, this passage leaves three impressions on the mind and the heart. First, Christ has given us the grace whereby we may reach the goal. Second, the means of growth for reaching that goal are at hand. And third, we must not stop nor be satisfied short of the goal, no matter how high the standard nor how great the difficulties in the way. Today we are discussing, Walking Worthily as a Church Member. Walking is often used in the bible as a figure of speech to describe a certain manner or way of life. This is true of the seven occurrences in Paul's letter to the Ephesians where he contrasts the walk of the believer with that of the unbeliever. In chapters 1-3 of Ephesians, Paul described the height and depth, the glory and wonder of the Christian calling.  Being a Christian is a glorious privilege. In chapters 4-6 he urged Christians to walk worthily of such a privilege. Paul was urgent, “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,” Paul was saying, “You are representatives of Christ in this world. Let your manner of life be such that it will not be a reproach to your Master.” Three things about this worthy walk, all hinging on our text, are suggested in Ephesians. Welcome to Refinery Life Australia. The Church The Body of Christ is the theme for the next few Sunday's. These messages are primarily based around Paul's letter to the Ephesians. Today we are discussing, The Church, The Body of Christ. Centuries ago the psalmist said in Psalm 139:14, I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. The human body is an awesome example of unity in diversity. Dozens of organs perform different functions yet work in such harmony that we must make a deliberate effort to think of the human body in a way except as unity. In the church at Corinth, some had gifts the others did not have, and as a result, they thought of themselves more highly than they should have. This provoked the less gifted to jealousy. The result was discord and strife among the members. In substance Paul was saying to them, “You do not realise your relationship to one another and to Christ. You are joined to one another and dependant on one another. You are the physical expression and instrument of Christ in this world just as the body is the physical expression and instrument of the mind.” 1 Corinthians 12:27, Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. Several practical suggestions about the church are called out by this text. What do Apostles do?

Welcome to The Refinery. Today we are discussing, What Apostles Do? Firstly Apostles are called by God  1 Corinthians 1:1  Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, Apostles are recognised by the church. Acts 6:3  Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; And Apostles are sent out by the church. Acts 13:3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. Acts 15:22 Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren. Apostles are a servant ministry to the local church and are given an office by the Lord and an anointing to fulfil the role. If an ‘apostle' comes without these credentials and attitude of service, reject them.   Test the spirit and fruit of the apostle, there is safety in the body to discern if they sent by the Lord (church) or came by themselves. I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. Welcome to Refinery Life Australia. The Master's recipe for Effective Praying has been the theme for the last few Sunday's and is a study of the petitions found in the Lord's prayer. Today we are discussing, Deliver Us from Evil. Seven is the number for completeness in the Bible. It is of special interest that the Master of prayer gave us just seven petitions in the Model Prayer, This could indicate that he felt that the seven petitions covered every need that people might bring to God. “Deliver us from evil” is the last of the petitions. It voices a cry that comes from the heart of the children of God as they live on this world. It is a cry expressing great urgency. Surely it is appropriate as we assemble for worship in the midst of a troubled world. Consider with me today some important implications set forth by this simple petition. And let us recognise the urgent need for us to be taking this petition to our heavenly Father daily. Welcome to Refinery Life Australia. The Master's recipe for Effective Praying is the theme for the next few Sunday's and is a study of the petitions found in the Lord's prayer. Today we are discussing, Lead Us Not Into Temptation. The battle with temptation is a continuing battle in all of life and is what prompted our petition for today “Lead us not into temptation.” Doubtlessly, the Teacher intended for each of these petitions to be repeated daily. Even one day of relaxation during the battle with temptation can be spiritually fatal. While Jesus did not experience the need voiced in the second of the petitions, “forgive us,” He did experience this one. That is, since He never said come to any temptation, He never had to request forgiveness. You may question whether Jesus really knew the power of temptation. The truth is that only the person who ever knows the full power of temptation is the person who resists it. Jesus knew more about the power of temptation than any of us. This petition lends it self to deeper meditation. Today we are discussing, Forgive Us Our Debts. Jesus instructs us to make all our needs a matter of prayer. The needs of our body are to be a matter of prayer, which is why we pray, “Give is this day our daily bread.” But we are also to pray about the needs of our mind. A part of the human soul is the conscience.  God placed within us a little voice that protests when we violate our sense of right and wrong. What do you do when you feel guilty? You should pray. You should not carry guilt through even one day. You should pray, “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.” The Lord's Prayer is a prayer for disciples. Some mistakingly teach that once you become a Christian, you never need to confess or seek forgiveness again. But Jesus taught His disciples to pray this prayer daily. Welcome to The Refinery. The Master's recipe for Effective Praying is the theme for the next few Sunday's and is a study of the petitions found in the Lord's prayer. Today we are discussing, Our Daily Bread. Prayer begins with God ward concerns, but it does not end there. The first three petitions of the Lord's Prayer make petitions for the name, Kingdom, and the will of God. These must be the first concerns in our prayer life. But then Jesus gave us four petitions to cover our personal needs. The last four petitions are inclusive. Give us this day our daily bread touches on the needs of the body. Forgive us our debts includes the needs of the soul. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil speak to the spiritual needs of the person. This reminds us that we can take whatever concerns us to the Heavenly Father in prayer. Give us our daily bread would seem to be a simple statement of need, yet many different interpretations of been set forth. Some have drawn back from thinking of it as a simple request for daily bread. They've changed it to mean Spiritual Bread from the Word of God or Christ, the Bread of Life, and some have even referred to it as the Bread of the Lord's Table. There is no need for such spiritualisation of the request. Our God is just as concerned that the basic necessities of life be supplied as He is that we have spiritual bread for the spirit. Our God is concerned about the total person. What can we learn here? Welcome to The Refinery. The theme for the coming Sunday mornings is The Master's Recipe for effective Praying. Today we are talking about Thy Will Be Done. “It is God's will.” These words are often used to interpret the tragedies of life. In legal language, “an act of God” is used to explain the great catastrophes that bring so much suffering and ruin. Yet Jesus instructed us to pray, “Thy will be done.” Does that mean that we are praying for catastrophes and tragedies to fall upon us? Such tragic events are not what we find associated with God's will in the Bible. God wills to create a world, to create humans, to send His Son, to redeem humans. These things are an expression of God's eternal purpose and will be accomplished, so there is really no need for us to pray for the accomplishment of them. But God's will also includes His commands and His plan for our day to day lives. Thus we need to pray that His will might be done in our lives and in the lives of others. The concern of this particular petition is how we are to do God's will. Since His will is to be done “on earth as it is in heaven,” we are to look to heaven for our pattern of response. Even though we do not know as much about heaven as we would like to know, we do know enough to give us some helpful instructions at this point. Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. In the midst of this sermon, our Lord gave his disciples a model prayer, the second petition of which is “Thy kingdom come.” “Thy” calls our attention to the nature of the kingdom, it is the kingdom that belongs to and comes from God. It is to the heavenly father that we pray, “Thy kingdom come.” The kingdom of God is the dynamic reign of God is king. Jesus spoke of the kingdom of God existing in both the present and the future. He affirmed to his disciples, the kingdom of God is within or among you. Whether do you understand the preposition “within" to mean that the Kingdom is present in their hearts or present in the midst in the person of the King of heaven makes little difference. Jesus surely taught that the kingdom of God come to earth in His ministry. He pointed his critics to his miracles as a sign that the kingdom of God was near at hand. But Jesus also spoke of the kingdom of God is something in the future, as the coming kingdom. To which aspect of the kingdom then does this prayer relate? Surely it must include both aspects. Let us see how it might relate to our prayers. Welcome to The Refinery. The gospel of Matthew presents Jesus is the King of the Jews. It is truly the Gospel of the kingdom. Hallowed Be Thy Name.

Welcome to Refinery Life Australia. The theme for the coming Sunday mornings is The Master's Recipe for effective Praying. Today we are talking about, Hallowed Be Thy Name. The Lord's prayer is a useful guide for disciples to follow in their prayer life.  It gives us some priorities by which to establish our prayer life.  Most of us have quoted this presence childhood, but we may not have fully looked carefully at what it really says. What should be the primary burden of your prayer when you approach the heavenly Father?  In this prayer, Jesus set forth seven petitions.  The first three are concerned with the things of God.  The last four concerned with the things of man.  This reflects God's priorities that should be observed in prayer. The first petition is hallowed be thy name.  The biblical use of name is a little strange to modern minds.  In understanding the Bible, you cannot separate the name from the person. Name is character so far is it revealed.  To hallow something means to count it as Holy.  Literally, it means “to make holy.”  Since it is related to God in this text, we know that it carries the force here of regarding or acknowledging something that is holy. There is no way that the name of God can be made holy, for He is the eternal Holy One. Our Father

Hey everyone and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. The theme for the coming Sunday mornings is The Master's Recipe for effective Praying. Today we are talking about Our Father. If we are to come boldly to the throne of grace to receive help in our time of need, we must know who sits on the throne. We must know who God is, and we must know what kind of person He is. We can learn a lot by considering our Lord's most basic instruction on prayer. What we have commonly called the Lord's Prayer contains some of the most profound thoughts on prayer found in all the Bible. Every word of this model prayer is important. The prayer was given again in Luke's gospel in response to a specific request from the disciples concerning prayer.  They felt their in adequacy in prayer and wanted Jesus's aid. He responded by giving this beautiful pattern to follow. How are we to understand prayer?  It was not given to just as a prayer to God, even though it is useful for this.  All of us have experienced some beautiful moments with God as we are out of these words to him. This prayer is meant to be an outline for prayer.  It is to guide us in our prayers as an outline guides the speaker in his delivery.  The prayer presents two major concerns that we must present to the Father.  The first three petitions are concerned with the glory of God, His name, His kingdom, and His will. Blast for our concerned with our needs. This should always be the order of our concern when we come to present ourselves to the Father in prayer. First, we will gather from the light it gives about the God to him we pray.  He is to be addressed, according to our Lord Jesus, as “Our Father which art in heaven.” Until next time Stay in the Blessings I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word.
