In part two of the SNAPPED recruitment special, Lucy investigates the recruitment process that determines which PNMs will make the final cut into a sorority's new pledge class. You'll learn about what goes behind the scenes of recruitment in the “back room,” and hear two former recruitment Vice Presidents describe their process of “pre-scoring” PNMs before even meeting them. Sorority historian and author of “Women of Discriminating Taste” Margaret Freeman discusses the history of these recruitment practices and how they've helped Greek institutions maintain their “freedom of association,” which roughly translates to their right to be racist. Plus, we'll uncover the role of the alumni advisor, and how much influence these graduated students play in college's most popular clubs. One year and 30 interviews later, SNAPPED is back, kicking off season two with a three-part recruitment special. In part one, we take a deep dive into how sororities prepare for their biggest event of the year – recruitment. Former Greek life members describe how their sororities carefully curated potential new members' (PNMs) perception of the chapter using Instagram, chapter house decor, and strict dress codes for current sisters (even during Zoom recruitment) – all to keep the faucet of PNMs flowing. Historian and author of “Women of Discriminating Taste” Margaret Freeman joins Lucy to provide the historical context that shapes the southern aesthetic that sororities still strive for today. Lastly, we hear from a former sister, who learned that she was not up to sorority standards as she was told to “put more makeup on or turn your camera off,” during Zoom recruitment.Follow SNAPPED on Instagram and Tiktok @snappedthepodcast Want to know how you can further support me and my work?-Send SNAPPED a tip on Venmo @snappedthepodcast-Support SNAPPED on Patreon at Patreon.com/snapped-Buy SNAPPED merch HERE: https://www.snappedthepodcast.com SNAPPED is an independent podcast that relies on community support. Have any of my former sorority sisters reached out since the podcast? Have I received backlash from my school? What the fuck is up with season 2? All answered.. in the SNAPPED Q+A.
