Last month, I released my interview with Brian Beers (Ep. 18) who is a franchise consultant and a franchisee himself that specializes in the concept of "rolling up franchises". He's also a podcast host of a show called "Business with Beers" where he interviews entrepreneurs about their journey and insight. Brian interviewed me a few weeks ago and I thought it would be cool to share the episode here with you. I share my personal journey of getting in business, experiences, as well as actionable tips and strategies that you can apply in your own life.

We dive into our longtime friendship & the dynamics of that early on and then Will shares key pieces of his story that has led him to where he is today. There are so many nuggets from this guy and as the episode goes on, it gets better & better. By the end, I had goosebumps as we talked about Will's paradigm shift after having a son, his strategies to standing out in his industry & our burning desire to help others. This episode has been on my mind for a while. Some people are motivated by material things - some not at all. Some people are motivated by experiences. Some people are minimalist and would tell you they don't need any of that... All are fine. I dive into all of this while sharing a couple of personal stories with you, talking about being "humble", and at the end, I share a quote that I live by & I think anyone can benefit from. Ultimately, I hope this episode makes you realize that you should pursue whatever equals happiness for YOU - Living someone else's idea of your life is a recipe for misery.
A roll up strategy is the process of acquiring and merging multiple smaller companies in the same industry & consolidating them into a large company - in this episode, you will hear how Brian Beers has done that very successfully. Brian and his family have been franchisees of Midas for years & in the past 18 months, they have exploded with growth going from 12 to 30 auto repair shops doing just shy of $40 million in annual revenue. Brian is also a franchise consultant, helping people find the right brand for them to pursue. We dive into the topics of scaling, challenges that come along with growth, how to delegate tasks to employees & much more. We talk about abundance & what success looks like! You do not want to miss this one. Let me tell you the story of how I got into owning a couple of big pink ice cream cone buildings: Kris & Kate's Ice Cream! The biggest wealth transfer in history is upon us: the boomers have amassed approximately $75T of wealth and they own millions of businesses that will likely either be inherited, closed or sold... the opportunities are going to be rampant. In this episode, you will learn a few lessons to prepare you for those opportunities. My Ice Cream stores >> www.krisandkates.com
Listen as I dive into my personal fitness journey, discuss the trap of the "all in" mindset that is so popular when beginning anything, and give some random health & fitness tips.
On this episode, I dive into the topics of mentorship, coaches & how your ego is the enemy - how your ego can hold you back from reaching your potential in any area of life if you let it. I also share a personal business experience that completely changed the trajectory of my company & life. Are you self aware enough to know if your ego is getting in the way? Ego is what prevents you from hearing critical but necessary feedback from others. Ego makes you over-estimate your own abilities & worth, and under-estimate the effort & skill required to achieve goals. Overall, ego can cause you to miss opportunities — to improve, to connect with others, and to achieve your goals. Ego costs you time. So put your ego down & seek help - find a real life cheat code: Hold the B button & Press Up, Down and press R R1, R2, L1, L2, B, A (If you listen, you know).
This episode features Gerald Peters: Real estate & stock investor, educator, author & creator of the "Money Flow Trading System". I came across Gerald's content a few years ago and it had an extremely positive impact on me & the way I viewed money going forward. In the words of GP: "The blue print to building wealth hasn't changed in 5000 years. You own a business, invest in business or you invest real estate. Pick one, or pick all three but you have to pick at least one of them to get yourself rich." Unlike many high net worth people you might follow online, Gerald never had a high paying job, doesn't own a huge company with a bunch of employees & quite frankly is a "normal" dude... which makes his story that much more awesome. In this episode, we dive into Gerald's story and discuss different investing philosophies. Jase's journey is an incredible, powerful story of how somebody can overcome a life-threatening addiction and truly turn their life around. Courage, perseverance, discipline, and hope just scratch the surface of what it took to turn his mess into a message.
My most expensive speed bump yet. Healthy prepared meals in a drive-thru... man, I thought this would be genius. We were the first drive thru meal prep location in the country. 11 months. That's how long it made it. Feb. 2019 - Dec. 2019. In this episode, I take you through why this concept didn't work in detail, all the way through the closing process. It is all obvious to me now, but that's how it works - easy to play Monday morning quarterback. Failure is best learned through a secondhand story, and is much cheaper, so maybe you can take a lesson or two from this.
Personally, I beat myself up about making progress all the time - with my workouts, runs, business, everything... I never seem to be moving fast enough towards my goals to be content. In reality, when I sit down and zoom OUT and look at my life through a little different lens, it helps me realize progress and how I AM actually moving forward and have come a long way. For me, it is very necessary to reframe this dialogue in my head or else I will quickly spiral downward mentally. Great things take time... Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years. Big goals take time to accomplish. Enjoy the process. After all, the process is life.
Fear. We all deal with it... WHAT IF I FAIL?! I share a few of my personal battles with fear: What if this rental property never rents, overthinking, negative bank accounts & more. So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. This is a mental speed bump you have to overcome to progress. You just need to get literal with the question: What if you fail? Oh and by the way... What if it turns out better than you could ever imagine?
You may be young and are wanting to get started on the right track financially or maybe you're not young but you feel behind because your finances are not in good shape... In this episode, I dive into 5 tips that I know for a fact will help people who are trying to get started with building a good financial foundation. You have to walk before you can run. You have to get the basics down before you get into investing & I can help you with the basics. Shoutouts to Robert Kiyosaki (Author of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"), Gerald Peters (Author of "You Don't Have to Die Broke!") and Dave Ramsey. If you're looking to build your knowledge around finances, these are some great places to start (after this podcast).
The Speed Bumps Podcast for me IS a Speed Bump for me right now. Why "perfection" isn't the goal, what even is "perfection" & how frequency is key. I know you'll be able to relate to this in some part of your own life. Also, why I struggle with vacations... What truly makes you happy?
Most people go through life living anywhere but the present... On this episode, I go in depth about living in the present and how it affects your happiness. “You can't live at all unless you can live fully now." - Alan Watts This episode gets deep. This is a mental speed bump that needs to be addressed... you will improve your relationships & your entire quality of life.
On this episode, I go in depth about the "Get Rich Quick" mistakes that I have personally fallen for (stonks, sports gambling & more) and discuss the entire mental hurdle that you HAVE to overcome around looking for the "hack", the "shortcut", to any kind of success. Anything truly great takes time. You need to go through the process in order to be equipped to handle the success... mentally, physically - any kind of success. “We tend to overestimate what we can accomplish in a year and underestimate what we can accomplish in a decade” This is a mental speed bump you need to hear about because overcoming it is highly necessary.
Not all investments are Ws... You're going to take some Ls. In this episode, I dive into an investment I made into an out of state retail store that went south quickly. Do your due diligence, weigh the potential outcomes, mitigate your risk & one question I ask myself before every investment.
A couple of years into business, after paying myself very little, I had accumulated $75k in my business account. I felt accomplished, as it was more money than I'd ever had by a long shot.
Welcome to the first episode of Speed Bumps with Austin Evans! What are Speed Bumps? Speed Bumps are the adversity, the L's, the mistakes... We all face speed bumps: In life, in our relationships, friendships, health, fitness & definitely in business. Nobody on the internet is posting their speed bumps; but that's where all the lessons of life are really learned. In this episode, you'll learn about why I began the Speed Bumps Podcast as well as hear about the one speed bumps EVERYBODY faces.
