What are you waiting for? Time is short and not guaranteed, so if you want to do something, what's actually holding you back? Let's explore some of the main emotions that keep you from actually doing what you want to do. What's Holding You Back from Getting What You Want? Fear Joy (Fear of Losing that Joy) Worry of Regret Why Do We Avoid Doing What We Want to Do So often, we put off doing what we actually want to do. Whether that's going on holiday, changing career, or something else. Why do we do this? Often, we think we have all the time in the world to accomplish what we want to do, but I want to ask you: why are you putting it off? Time is scarce, my friends, and it's fleeting. So I ask you again, why are you putting off what you really want to do? Most often, we don't do what we want to do because of some pretty big emotions. Fear is one of the biggest reasons we don't do what we want to do. But did you know that joy can also hold you back? What Would Happen if You Allowed Your Curiosity to Take Control? When you're happy with your lot in life, it can be difficult to move out of that comfort zone to try something else. I challenge this fear of losing joy with curiosity. What if what you want is truly amazing? Some of the other reasons you might not do what you want is because you're comparing yourself to other people doing the same thing. What would you tell your best friend in these circumstances? Finally, I want you to think about whether the worry of disappointing others is part of why you're putting off doing what you want to do. And I want you to ask yourself whether you'll regret not doing what you want to do. It's time to get introspective. Do any of these feelings resonate with you? I want you to decide what you want right now. Are you willing to feel the potential feelings you'll have to feel to get to the other side? In This Episode What time scarcity is [2:30] Some of the obstacles or reasons for not going after what you want [6:00] How fear can hold you back from doing what you want to do [7:00] How comparison can stop us from doing what we want [19:00] The role of regret in keeping us from doing what we want [23:00] Quotes “Time is not guaranteed. So if there's something that you really want or really want to do, why would you put it off so long?” [2:47] “There can be fear holding us back from getting what we want right now, but if we take that fear away, what would actually happen? Then we can go deeper and ask, ‘why are we really afraid?'” [9:31] “If we can give all this compassion to other people, to our friends, to our loved ones, to even perfect strangers, what is the obstacle of extending that same compassion to ourselves?” [20:44] “If you are concerned that you might regret a decision, ask yourself, ‘what if it does work out?' Okay, it can flop and be horrible, but what if it isn't. What if it's amazing? What do you choose to believe? Do you choose to believe that it's going to be amazing or do you choose to believe that it's going to be a big, ol' flop.” [25:00] Resources Mentioned Join the G.O.A.L.S. Adam went to park somewhere and saw that everyone else was parked badly, so he was going to park the same way, but then Rosie told him that just because everyone is parked terribly doesn't make it right for you to do the same. Adam was in a mood where he wanted the drama that the situation would cause, but Rosie wasn't reacting dramatically and was just calmly advising him better, which caused Adam to leave in a huff. We're more likely to self sabotage when we set goals and have nobody to be accountable to but ourselves. We talk about what to focus on when you're feeling unmotivated or are just having one of those days where you get very little done.Adam's funny parking experience 0:37If you really want something 6:41Faith and taking things back to the basics 12:45What are your top 3 priorities? 16:02“Think about any of your goals, like if you really want something you will probably be the person that will upper limit and get in the way of your own goals, but if you're not aware, you'll blame other people when really you need to just reflect why am I feeling like this? Have you been feeling like your life has been at a standstill lately? Do you feel like every time you take one step forward, then life takes you two steps back? Have you been asking God for a blessing or help with a situation and you just feel like he's not listening to you? Trust me when I say... I've been there Here is the thing, God is always right here with us and he always helps us in His perfect timing. It could be that He is listening to you, but you're blocking your own blessings. This happened to me a little while back, and I really wanted to come on here and do this episode because I know someone is struggling right now and they just feel like they're at a standstill, and it could be you reading this right now. You just feel like the blessing that you're so desperately looking for is not coming your way and you just don't understand what's going on. So today I'm going to go into my story of blocking my blessings, I'm going to pair it with some scripture, and then also give you three things to implement to help you let go of whatever's holding you back, to fully stay obedient, and to trust the Lord. Real Estate Agents, how truly competent are you? The Four Stages of Learning provides a model for learning. It suggests that individuals are initially unaware of how little they know, or are literally unconscious of their incompetence. As they recognize their incompetence, they consciously acquire a skill, then consciously use it, polishing it and improving with practice. Eventually, the skill can be utilized without it being consciously thought through: the individual is said to have then acquired unconscious competence. Today is October 31, which is Halloween day here in Canada, and I know in the United States it is as well. The title of my episode today is, is fear holding you back. And fear certainly seems to go along with Halloween, doesn't it? I mean, fear, we think about all those ghosts and goblins and, and all the scary images. And I think that some of us just love the thrill of that fear, the thrill of being scared. We can talk about about the kinds of fear we get from watching a scary movie but is there something in this world that you are so afraid of that it's holding you back from accomplishing what you want to accomplish? I think the answer may be Yes. I believe a lot of us have a fear of success. Listen & Subscribe on: iTunes / Stitcher / Podbean / Overcast / Spotify Step Out For some reason, sometimes we think that people who are successful aren't actually that happy, or they may have a lot of money, but they spend more time worrying about what to do with the money than they do being able to enjoy it. People think a lot of different thoughts and have a lot of different opinions like this. Do you have a fear of failure, a fear that if you do take a risk, if you do step out, then maybe you won't succeed? Would failure be worse than even trying in the first place? I don't think it is worse, I think it's better to step out. Try your hand at achieving what you want to achieve. Is Fear Real? Go for your dreams. And don't forget that success is only defined the way you define it. Does that mean everything has to go the way you want it to go? Does it mean you have to make a certain amount of money or you have to gain certain popularity with your friends? I did a Mindfulness Mode interview at one time called ‘Fear Is Not Real.' Do you think fear is real? I think fear is as real as you make it. Fear is not real was explained by Jaimal Yogis. That was on episode 228. He wrote a book called, Salt Water Buddha. I had a fantastic time talking with Jaimal, I appreciate him so much, including how he lives his life. There is a flow in Jaimal's life. He is a surfer so it's not surprising that I would feel a sense of water and waves in his personality. Is fear real in your life? Sticks and Leaves? ‘Surrender To Fear To Reach Peace' is another episode I published. That was with relationship expert named Erik Newton. I believe it's important to be able to surrender to fear as that act of surrendering can take us through to peace and contentment. The more we resist fear, the worse it can be. The more we resist pain, the more painful it can be. The more we try to resist our emotions, the more they will be difficult to deal with and difficult to bear. I definitely agree with Erik Newton when he talks about how to surrender to fear to reach peace. What's your method of surrendering to fear? I reach that state of surrender through meditation and by allowing my thoughts of fear, worry, or concern, to simply be there. With my clients, I often say, “just imagine you're watching the water in a river. And there are sticks and leaves floating along, bobbing along in the water. And just imagine those are your thoughts. They're just moving along.” Tune in to listen to the rest of the episode. RICH CELENZA talks about how he grew up with no college degree. Which are beliefs to open his mind to go experiment and try different things throughout his life. He also talks about how a lot of friends and colleagues did get college degrees who got locked in for the rest of their life doing something they don't like doing. People need to be open-minded and go where their energy leads them and start going after what they truly want to do.

Show Notes: One thing that's holding you back is an attachment to permanency. Believing that you're supposed to find a great job and stay with that company forever, or you meet a partner and stay together forever, or you plant roots and stay in the same city forever. When you're not attached to permanency, you're allowed to dabble, to experiment, to try new things and see if they are right for you. And it's only through that experimentation that you find what works best. When you're worried that you're holding yourself back from making decisions because you feel attached to the permanency of your current situation, even if it's making you unhappy, it's time to start asking yourself some questions. First, “What's the worst that could happen if I make a new decision?” Oftentimes, that worst case scenario is the exact same situation you're in now, so don't be afraid of making a new decision when the outcome might be the same as no decision at all – it could be so much better. Many times we're afraid of losing the good things about where we're at now if we make a different decision. Maybe you're afraid of losing your friends or your favorite restaurant. But what if you got really intentional, took inventory of what you loved, and made a focused effort to do those things (or similar) in a different situation? It's possible to preserve the good while making even more room for new greatness. So stop focusing so much on permanency. Life isn't meant to be that way. If something isn't serving you in the way that it could, try something new. Be intentional, focus on maintaining what you already have, and keep changing things to get even better.
