Well, I knew I was going to make this episode eventually. I think a lot of us have experienced some kind of church hurt in our lives. I oftentimes hear about what happened to someone and that was the reason they stepped away from the church or God, or just changed how they lived. I didn't think I would've experienced this until it happened to me a few years ago. It's still a process of healing that I am going through, but I feel like it's time to talk about it. My heart behind this episode is not to bash the church, Christians, or anything. There was hurt that happened, but the message is healing. In my scenario, it's easy to magnify the hurt and forget all the good. However, before the hurt and even through my healing journey, there has been a lot of good through people, church, and other events. I am a decent example of what it looks like not to walk away from God or change into a spiteful person towards the church that hurt me. Consider joining me this week to hear about a moment of hurt, but a journey of healing and hope. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slow-down-method/support
Welcome to another episode here on my podcast! This week, I talk about the good times, the bad times, and the in-between times. I could never forget different moments in my life even when I was still in preschool. Sometimes those memories were great and other times they were a bit rough. However, I can look back and appreciate the overall memory. Do you have a lot of memories you can recall or just a few? Join me this week as we dive into some of my own and perhaps unlock some of yours. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slow-down-method/support
After living in PA for over a year now, one thing is apparent...I miss the homies. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with where I'm at now, but it doesn't mean that I have a lot of friends up here either. I am thankful for the friends I have in PA and the ones across the US. Sometimes, I wish I just saw some of the old homies every once in a while and a bit more frequently too. This week, I talk about the homies and ask a simple question that may challenge you. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slow-down-method/support
Every day we are bombarded with the status quo and whether or not we're meeting that expectation. I often cared about my looks, clothes, and style. However, everything changed when my friend and I decided that we were going to shave our heads. It wasn't an immediate change in how I viewed myself, but it was the first step to change. I think it's easy to be so focused on our looks that we forget that at the core of who we are, we're all just humans trying to figure life out. It's almost the end of the year, but there are still a few days left of this one. After working during the holiday, I am ready for the slower pace of work and life. However, after thinking about it more, I realized that maybe this is a continued sign to see what is out there. This holiday was good, but also too much for various reasons. It's a good reminder to seek out growth and change when there is enough reasoning to develop into someone you want to become. It's a bit ironic since we're almost in the new year, but I still believe it's good to reevaluate where you're at and see if you want to go down a different path. For now, enjoy this episode, let me get on my soap box a bit, and see what I'm hoping for in the upcoming days and months.
The holidays are upon us and Christmas is right around the corner, are you ready? I'm not sure how to feel about Christmas sneaking up on me...but I also feel a certain way about the holiday season as a whole. If you have any extra holiday cheer, would you be able to send me some? I'm no scrooge, but after my life in retail, I'm too aware of the real side of the holidays. Hopefully this holiday season, you find a bit more joy and excitement and if not, well you're in good company. Join me on today's episode and see how I'm handling the holiday craziness. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
I'm a big fan of old gangster movies. I love watching "The Goodfellas", "The God Father", and even "Scarface". I'm not sure why I enjoy them so much, but I always knew there was a particular interest in their lifestyle. That might make me sound silly, but I think we all grew up with movies that sort of piqued our interest or maybe showed a life that we would never be part of. I get it, films really do emphasize the romance of it all, but isn't that what makes a good movie? I digress. However, one thing I always remembered from those movies was a roundabout phrase as followed, "don't get high on your own supply." Basically, any person dealing with a particular "business" was warned not to indulge in what they were selling. However, a lot of times, the star would end up getting caught up in it all. Isn't it funny how we can fall into that kind of pitfall too? We say that we're not going to spend money on certain things or buy too much of something else, but before you know it, there's a sale or deal that you can't pass up....sort of like the holiday season we're currently in. As I continue to compare the two together on this episode, grab a seat, and hopefully you'll learn a little bit from some of my past life lessons.
Let's be real, kids can be whack. Why? I have two reasons why. Join me this week as I talk about these reasons and what I'm learning from it. Even though I say kids can be whack, my life has spun around to make that phrase to be very ironic. As a person who is learning how to take care of a kid now, oftentimes I find myself realizing that I still have a lot to be better at. Kids have a funny way in challenging your definition of love, care, and being good. When I first started this podcast, I didn't think I would keep at it for a long time. Mentally, I was in another headspace and I started on a whim. I had some idea of what I was doing, but decided to just make the leap to try. Who would've thought that I would make it to one year of my podcast?! Hello everyone! I hope your week has been amazing so far! This week, I wanted to continue where I left off with my "mini series" about being in a "cult." Just to preface, I wasn't actually in a cult, but it was a ministry program that had some quirky structuring to it. Please be aware that I am in no way talking ill about it, but deconstructing the parts that were not appropriate and I'm aware that other people had different experiences from the program. Today's episode encompasses the "good" parts about the environment that I was in when I attend the ministry program and more lessons too. Once again, these are my own experiences, perspective, and feelings about the program and the topics that are involved in today's episode. The takeaway for this episode is the power of community, how I found my passion, and filtering those who use God as a channel to push their own agendas, but losing the identity of Christ in their talk. It's a long episode, but I hope you enjoy! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Hey everyone, here is a small update on what's been going on in life and why I've been a bit M.I.A. Don't worry, we will be returning to our regular schedule program moving forward! I got a lot of news for this week and hopefully more stuff the next episode. Thank you for sticking with me and know I'm always in your corner!
Welcome back, everyone! This week I continued with my conversation about my ministry program and how some of the stuff was a bit...odd. Join me for some more weird stories, some things I had to deal with as alumni, and even some other stories from people who shared their stories with me. This is not in any way to shame the leadership or the program that I attended but to point out some of the experiences I had and how I learned to be better from those moments in time. *Reminder: Don't forget that I am posting new episodes every two weeks.* If you like, find me on my other social media platforms found here. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
The age-old question...was I in a cult? It's sort of a joke, but for three years of my life, I think sort of was. I went to a ministry program for three years and left with a lot of friends, memories, baggage, and a bit more legalistic ways to be a "Christian." Today, I share some of my own experiences about that program and even a few small details that probably wasn't kosher at the time when the program was running or when I was still part of that church as a whole. So buckle in and enjoy the ride! Also, I will be doing a new schedule where I'll be uploading new episodes every two weeks instead of every week. I've been a Christian my whole life, whether it was Sunday school, youth group, Sunday church, or Saturday night church...you get the picture. I feel that every day, I am learning to be a better Christian and a better human being. I'm not perfect, but I'm trying to take the right steps to be better. I realized that I didn't want to be a Christian or at least the Christian that I thought I had to be. Whether it was feeling guilty because I missed church or forgot to read my Bible, there was a lot to keep up with in order to remain a "good Christian." However, I'm learning to reassess what I've been told and trying my best to find the truth in God instead of looking proper on a Sunday. Memories are weird. This past week, my friend and I broke out our old 8th-grade yearbooks. It was a great time walking down memory lane with her. A lot of laughs and a handful of confusing moments. I'm not sure what your motivations are, but I unpack some of mine on today's podcast. Do you ever compare yourself to others? Do you compare yourself to old versions of yourself? I catch myself doing that throughout the different seasons of my life. This week I unpack why I do that and why maybe you do that too. Perhaps we're taught that or get used to it because of social media. The focus of our lives is to grow in our own path instead of trying to hop onto someone else's. If we do, we'll get disappointed because we will never be able to fit in the mold that we wish we were in. Let's stay in our lane and become the best version of who we need to be.
Are you a healthy person? I like to think that I am, but in reality, I might be lacking in some areas. This week I talk about my current health status and how I'm trying to improve it. Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode! This week is a continuation of the last episode. Last time I talked about being worthy and this week I'm connecting that with this week's topic, pursuit. When I was younger and as I continue to grow up, I've always been taught to pursue, but hardly have I been taught to be pursued. Perhaps you're similar to me or maybe it's the other way around. Maybe you've always been pursued, but never had a chance to pursue what you want. When I first moved from my previous place to my current one, there was a lot of stuff I had to get rid of. Some of it was little knick-knacks and others were more important items. I got rid of some of those things on each side. Even though I wished I could've kept most of it, I knew I couldn't. Fast forward to now and I'm about to move back home. Thank God I didn't hold on to all that stuff! Then it hit me, there's more to life than just the things we hold on to. Sometimes life is hard to let go of, but I know that if we want to be able to enjoy and hold on to what's to come, we need to let go. Holding on to some things isn't bad, however, we need to make room for more. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Life is filled with different chapters in our lives. Some are filled with great moments and others are silenced by sad events. Maybe we're learning to develop in a skill, find our value, or maybe just heal from our past. The journey maybe long, but it is worth it. After almost ten years living in Florida, I have decided that I am moving back to Pennsylvania. There was a lot of reasons why I want to move back, but never felt like the timing was right. Maybe there isn't a "right" time, but I know that I want to be closer to family and see what might be out there for me back at home. Whatever your theme might be, it can help set the tone or set our sights on what we may want to accomplish this year, this month, or even today. Fear. It's something that we all have to deal with. Sometimes it's as simple as turning on the lights or perhaps it's a long journey to recovery. Fear can teach us a lot of things, but that doesn't mean we need to always be led by it. Fear can point out what we lack or a flag that needs to be noticed. Sometimes fear can trick us to think that we if we don't fix this certain thing, we have less value or there's something wrong with us. It can be awfully easy for fear to be the guide in our lives, but we must remember that it does not always guide us in the right light. Join me this week as I talk about some of my own fears and talk about how fear can help us, but doesn't own us. People are either there to support you or they're there to impede your growth, make sure you got the right people in your circle. Take responsibility.
