B-2 stealth bomber test pilot Sparky joins So There I Was to explain why the world's sneakiest bomber still can't go direct to Liberal, Kansas without a paperwork migraine. From “switches up, auto missile, eat a sandwich” bomb runs to 24-hour missions fueled by go-pills, honey buckets, and a hacked-together cot, he walks us through life in a jet built for nuclear armageddon but terrible at simple IFR. Then we follow him to test pilot school at Edwards, where he flies everything from F-16s to flying boats, helps beat up the “Franken-tanker” KC-46, and explains how big airliners survive stalls, rejected takeoffs, and absurd crosswinds. Sparky also tells the sobering story of losing a classmate in a T-38 crash—and the piano-burning tradition that followed—before closing with the truly unbelievable tale of how Wayne Newton kissing his wife on stage earned him his call sign. "God Alone Is Good"Mark 10:17-31Having recently completed our series “None Like Jesus” let's continue to “Behold Him” by embarking on a new study through the Gospel of Mark. Mark's Gospel is the shortest of the four Gospels and it is action-packed from start to finish – as evidenced by the word “immediately” used over 40 times. Mark wrote to believers, probably Roman believers, who were no strangers to persecution. And he wanted to disciple his readers to be strong in their faith by encouraging them to look to their Mighty Messiah, the Son of God, who remained steadfastly faithful even while becoming their Suffering Servant who died for them. Mark's Gospel is a call to all believers to fearlessly “Follow Jesus” because they can trust Him completely.
Some days hold both joy and heartbreak in the very same breath. In this short, tender episode, I'm inviting you into a story that forever changed how I understood gratitude, grief, and the goodness of God.As I share the moment our long-awaited celebration turned into another devastating loss, we'll explore the surprising way Jesus meets us in the middle — not after the suffering is over, not once the joy has returned, but right there in the ache.If you've ever felt like you had to choose between grief or gratitude, this episode is for you.May you be reminded today that God doesn't wait for the “good part” of your story to show up. He is the Good Part, the God who is unchanging in every season, on the mountaintop and in the valley.I'm in your corner, cheering you on as you hold both.SUPPORT BY WORDS: https://buymeacoffee.com/bywordsSHOP MY BOOKS:Waking Up: Living Open — https://amzn.to/3LusgrzLove Is Devotional — https://amzn.to/3S6OZhs FREE Path to Purpose Guide: https://hannahhughes.myflodesk.com/pathwaytopurpose My favorite Bible studies + devotionals - HANNAHHUGHES10 for 10% off: https://thedailygraceco.com?dt_id=300773 Connect: www.thehannahhughes.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thehannahhughes/ https://www.instagram.com/bywordspodcast Shop my Amazon faves: https://www.amazon.com/shop/thehannahhughes
Christians live in the context of constant pressure from the world around. That was true in the first century AD—and it is true today. Knowing the possibility of opposition and persecution, Peter urges us to be committed to doing good and ready to explain our hope in Christ to anyone who asks. And if suffering should come our way even so, we must be ready to follow in the footsteps of our Saviour.

It's been a month since Kris and Tara have seen each other's faces and they have a lot to catch up on! Kris is in hell, physically and otherwise, dreaming of her recent relaxing, internet-free trip to the lake. Tara's kids are back in the September school rush, so everything's a blur between that and work. They talk Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart, as well as Harlequin's recent sapphic releases, which are a nice change from yesteryear. Official Recommendations From Kris: Can We Skip to the Good Part by Melissa Brayden Kris's official recommendation this week is Can We Skip to the Good Part by Melissa Brayden, her first independently published book. It's a story of new beginnings, as a woman is let go from her job and starts fresh in a new town with her best friend and a new book club. This story offers love, insane chemistry, and some tricky maneuvering. If you haven't read anything by Brayden before, Kris thinks it's a great place to start. From Tara: One Weekend in Tahoe by Jaime Clevenger Tara's official recommendation this week is the one-night-to-forever One Weekend in Tahoe by Jaime Clevenger. It's a trope-filled erotic romance set in the worlds of philanthropy and sex parties (not at the same time) that balances enough sweetness with a little bit of the real world. Love, and right. When fake Christians parrot the words, "God is love," they mean, "God is love and does not judge." But the Bible explains, "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth." That's in Paul's famous "love chapter," 1 Corinthians 13. So real love - "true love," as we've been discussing - not only distinguishes good from evil; it aligns itself with righteousness. Mark Skipper continues the good conversation all about Faces of Rebellion, his artistic mission to lend his voice to the climate crisis at hand. We talk everything from community-building rallies and protests to how he sees himself as an artist in this world to the people who have inspired him to make the change he wants to see. We learned so much speaking with Mark and here's one of the most important parts: every single one of us has something to give and that something we each give uplifts others, makes us all feel a little less alone, and creates the much-needed community we all definitely want so much more of. This is part two of our oh-so-good conversation - be sure to go back one episode to hear the first part before listening (no spoilers!). ______________________________ Steve is busy at work on the third book in his cozy mystery series, THE DOG WALKING DETECTIVES. Mark Skipper is equal parts talented artist and climate activist. And just how is he bridging those two passions together? Through his project, Faces of Rebellion, where he sits down with people making a difference in the world to not just sketch and draw them, but also to connect with them and share their stories. Literally, he combines their likeness with their mission, all on one glorious single piece of paper. We chat about where he finds his inspiration, how art has always had a profound effect on him, and how every single one of us can make change happen, and in turn, make the planet a better place, simply by using our individual talent, whatever it may be. If you question whether you can make a difference, you very well may find the answer in this oh-so-good conversation (spoiler alert: you can choose to make change happen anytime you want, exactly where you are - it really is that simple). This is part one of our conversation. ________________________________ Steve is busy at work on the third book in his cozy mystery series, THE DOG WALKING DETECTIVES. Today, our interdenominational Christian ministry serves the poor in primarily 17 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Thanks to our faithful donors, we are able to provide food, housing, healthcare, education, fresh water, emergency relief, micro-enterprise solutions and much more. We are proud to have fed millions of people and provided more than 15.7 billion dollars in aid. Our faith inspires us to be an organization built on compassion, and motivated by love. Our mission is to bring relief to the poorest of the poor in the countries where we serve. We strive to reflect God's unconditional love. It's a sacrificial love that embraces all people regardless of race or religion. We believe that we can show His love by serving the “least of these” on this earth as Christ challenged us to do in Matthew 25. We pray that by God's grace, and with your support, we can continue to bring relief to the suffering and hope to the hopeless. In Part Two of this powerful conversation, Brad and Karen Nadolson continue sharing the story of their daughter Bethany—this time focusing on how life has unfolded in the wake of her homegoing. With honesty and grace, they talk about walking through the earliest days of grief, how their relationship with God has deepened, and the ways they've learned to honor Bethany's life while continuing to live with purpose and hope. They speak about how grief affects marriage, how they've navigated holidays, and what it means to truly see the good even when your heart is broken. This episode offers tender encouragement for any parent learning how to carry their child's memory forward while holding tightly to the promises of God.Click HERE to listen to the first half of my conversation with the Nadolsons.I would love to hear your thoughts on the show.
