The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is once again coming this August. This is the place where over 3,800 individual shows - yes - 3 thousand, 800 of them - will take place during the full month in what is billed as a global arts celebration. Last year the Fringe - as the locals call it - featured 53,942 performances over 301 venues with participants from 68 countries with 2.6 million in ticket sales. How good is that? So good that we are diving in to find out all about it with four of the upcoming performers: Liz Coin, Max Davidson, Brendon Lemon and Kristina Libby. We are talking everything from one-person shows to stand-up comedy to magic and illusionists, what it means to them to take part in this festival, and how the arts bring us all together in the best way possible. Grab your seat, the lights are dimming, as the festival is about to begin... This episode is Part 1 of 3 in a series. _______________________ Sunday July 12 - grab your seat to SLIDESHOW: IN COLOR! now playing in London. It's the live storytelling show the Los Angeles Times declares, "Downright magical, uncomfortable and shockingly honest!" and Theatreland Adventures London cheers, "FOUR STARS - This is unlike anything I've seen before, a warm, engaging, and memorable evening!" What happens when serving God becomes a source of stress, frustration, and distraction instead of joy and fulfillment? In Episode 4 of “Essentials in Leadership,” Duane Sheriff teaches why it's important to maintain “the good part” in our relationship with Jesus. Through the story of Martha and Mary, Duane shows that while serving is important and necessary, it can become unhealthy when we neglect to sit at the feet of Jesus and cultivate a close relationship with Him.Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen “the good part,” meaning a focused relationship with Him that would not be taken away. The “one thing” is not the only thing in life, but it is the essential thing that makes every other part of life and leadership work properly. When we lose our connection with Jesus, ministry, work, and relationships can become stressful, distracting, and driven by human effort instead of grace. This episode encourages leaders to protect their first love, develop healthy spiritual rhythms, and keep Jesus at the center of every area of life.

Where is the good part when life doesn't make sense?  This week on The Breakdown Podcast, Matthew Rhoads sat down with Pastor James to break down his message "Where Is the Good Part?" rooted in Genesis 50:15–25 and supported by passages including Romans 8:28, Psalm 27:13, and Philippians 1:6. Looking at the final chapter of Joseph's story, they talk about what it means to trust that God is good—even before the story feels good. Together, they unpack how God's goodness changes the way we view our past, present, and future. Joseph's life reminds us that pain, setbacks, and unanswered questions are not the end of the story. God is still working, still leading, and still accomplishing His purposes. If you've been struggling to see God's goodness in a difficult season, this conversation will encourage you to trust that He is at work—even when you can't yet see the good part. Is God unjust? Did He make a mistake with you? Does He actually love you? This week we finish the questions Romans 9 forces us to wrestle with — and the answers are better than we might expect. You are not an accident. You are not forgotten. You are His workmanship, chosen to be His people. But Romans 9 ends with one final question that cuts deepest of all: are you trusting in Christ, or in yourself? Jesus is either the cornerstone you build your life on, or the stone you trip over. No one stays neutral.

In this message, Pastor Duane emphasizes that the "one thing" — intimate relationship with Jesus — is the good part that makes every other part of life and ministry function properly. Martha's distraction with serving, though noble, shows how even good things can pull us from this priority. Paul's "one thing" of forgetting the past, reaching forward, and pressing toward the high calling models how to maintain longevity and effectiveness. Jesus must remain our first love so all other loves flourish.

Duane Sheriff Ministries - Feed

What if the most important part of your life isn't everything you're doing for God—but the time you spend with Him? In "The Good Thing," Duane Sheriff teaches that maintaining your first love for Jesus must remain above everything else—especially in a world pulling us in countless directions. Through the contrast of Mary and Martha, he reveals how easy it is to become distracted—even by good, godly things like serving, working, and caring for others—while neglecting to sit at Jesus' feet. The tension between doing and being is real for all of us.This message isn't about abandoning responsibility, but about prioritizing what matters most rightly. Intimacy with Christ is the wellspring from which every other part of life flows. When we guard this “good part,” our marriages grow stronger, our parenting becomes more intentional, our ministries more effective, and our work more meaningful. Discover how to guard your heart against distraction, renew your first love, and build a life of lasting fruitfulness by keeping your relationship with Jesus at the center of everything.

Sometimes Chloe Angyal simply asks, 'Why not?' As in why not write a marriage proposal in the form of a blog to a man she sees deliver a speech on TV that inspires her? As long as she's writing stuff, why not give writing romance novels a try? And hey, why not get a doctorate in rom-coms for that matter? Spoiler Alert: She's now married to that man she proposed to via a blog posting, she's written three romance novels (and 1 non-fiction book), and she got that PHD so you can call her Dr. Chick Flick and she happily accepts that title. Is Chloe's life normal? Before you answer that, follow question: Is YOUR life normal? Life is whatever we want it to be. And in Chloe Angyal's case, it's gone from Australia to Iowa where she's now helping her husband, Iowa State Senator Zach Wahls, run for a US Senate seat this November. Remember our slogan for 2026? SAY YES. Chloe is definitely saying yes. This is part 2 of our oh-so-good conversation. _____________________________ Come see Steve in person at SLIDESHOW: IN COLOR! launching in London on May 3rd. Jeffrey Deskovic's life changed forever when he was convicted of a murder he did not commit at just 17 years old. He maintained his innocence for the next 16 years and then, with the help of the Innocence Project, the real person responsible was finally caught and Jeff was released from prison. Now you may be asking yourself, 'Hey, how is this a GOOD story?' The answer is found in what Jeff did after this all happened: He went to law school, became an attorney and founded the Deskovic Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the exoneration of the wrongfully convicted, their recovery, and reform of the system. This is one person's journey from the darkest of places to finding and creating his own light and we gotta tell ya, it doesn't get much more inspiring than this. Today's episode is Part 2 of 2. ________________________ Steve's third book in his cozy mystery series, THE DOG WALKING DETECTIVES is finally here: SEASON'S SLAYINGS!
