We looked at the overcrowded world of pop culture podcasts and said, "Hey, why not us too?" Together we revisit the films that blew our minds as dumb kids and reflect on them with our mid-thirties brains. Are they as good as we remember, or were we just too young to know they were bad?

Three decades later, Tim Burton's parable about life, afterlife and intergenerational conflict seems like an unlikely box office smash. Chris and Drew discuss the merits of Burton's golden era, of Alec Baldwin's hairy chest and of Catherine O'Hara's perfect take on an artsy twit. Writer-director-horror lovely Staci Layne Wilson is on hand to pine for the days when we didn't know every last awful thing about the actors in the movies we watch. It's been twenty years since Neve Campbell and Denise Richard jumped into a pool together, and Chris and Drew wonder if Wild Things was a legit thriller masquerading as softcore or just lurid trash. This John McNaughton-directed feature co-stars Matt Dillon, Teresa Russell and Kevin Bacon's penis, and this discussion of the film co-stars Alisha Grauso and multiple references to what was okay in 1998 but seems super awkward today.

John Waters' first PG-rated feature opened quietly in 1988 but never really left pop culture. Thirty years later (and three re-interpretations down the line), Chris and Drew re-watch this glossy, dippy movie about big hair, big dances and big racism, and Gwynedd Stuart joins them to ask if this movie actually tackles segregation as well as its reputation would have it. All this plus Divine, Debbie Harry's dermatological services and discussion of white saviors.

Adam Sandler celebrated Valentine's Day 1998 with an unusual follow-up to Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison: a date movie that showcased his considerable chemistry with Drew Barrymore. The Wedding Singer and its soundtrack helped kickstart a love for '80s nostalgia that still hasn't died, but does it all hold up? Grae Drake, senior editor for Rotten Tomatoes, helps Chris and Drew separate what works from what doesn't. And yes, we totally talk about how the jokes at Alexis Arquette's expense so totally don't work twenty years later.

What can be said about Spice World, twenty years later? Well, in our first episode of 2018, we'll tell you that David Russell, pop music expert and manager to Sia, saw it opening weekend. He joins Chris and Drew to discuss Spice Girls mania and as it was when this film was released in 1998, as well as Madonna, Bananarama, Martika, Debbie Gibson and more. Is this a great film? No. But is it a great snapshot of pop culture history? Yes.

And... we're back! Before we jump headlong into our lineup for season two of We Are Not Young Anymore, Chris and Drew talk about their top picks from 1983, 1988, 1993 and 1998 — the years all this season's movies will be hitting major milestone anniversaries. Some of these will get whole episodes. Some are personal favorites that we're just happy to give a shout-out to, in case you've come to think of us as legit authorities on old movies. Among those discussed in this episode: Hairspray, Terms of Endearment, The Hunger, Valley Girl, The Opposite of Sex, The Sandlot, Out of Sight, Hocus Pocus, Cujo and two tragic Meryl Streep classics.

Twenty years ago this week, a three-hour tour turned into one of the biggest movie events of all time. Since, Titanic has remained in the public consciousness, but does it deserve its success (and boatloads of billions)? Writer and comedian Louis Virtel joins Chris and Drew to talk about Leonardo DiCaprio's impossibly perfect hair, about Kate Winslet's status as a totally down girl who can hang, and Gloria Stuart's pronunciation of the phrase "the most erotic moment of my life."

Twenty years before Laurie Metcalf started getting Oscar buzz, she played Scream 2's Mrs. Loomis, the kookoo-bananas matriarch of one of horror's great murder families. But does the slasher sequel hold up? Ira Madison III — writer and totally not a pundit — joins Drew and Chris for a discussion of Portia de Rossi's eyebrows, Jada Pinkett's ill-fated movie-goer character and the Scream franchise in general.

This is a movie about three men — heterosexual but cohabitating — who raise an abandoned baby while fending off a drug cartel. Three Men and a Baby was also the highest-grossing movie of 1987, and while critics and audiences loved it, Chris and Drew are hard-pressed to think of a single reason why aside from Tom Selleck's mustache. Fortunately, comedy writer and actor Rob Nolan guests hosts and offers the counter-argument of "Hey, maybe it doesn't suck." Ghosts are discussed as well.

It only took Disney 55 years to animate a story about non-European characters, and we celebrate Aladdin's 25th anniversary by asking how well the House of Mouse handled characters who were slightly tan. The answer? It's a mixed bag, as far as racial stereotypes and gender roles are concerned, and it's a split vote on whether Robin Williams' performance as the Genie is comedy genius or ADD nightmare. Comic writer and artist Sina Grace joins Chris and Drew to show off his own personal Cave of Wonders.

Journalist Katherine Spiers joins Chris and Drew for a discussion of the best fish-themed thriller of 1997, when the success of Scream led producers to say "Hey, let's put that other actress from Party of Five in a horror movie." (No, not Lacey Chabert.) And while I Know What You Did Last Summer proved to be a box office success, we're wondering how it compares today. Could it be enjoyed as pretty good Lifetime original-style thriller? Is Anne Heche the best thing in it? And why *did* Johnny Galecki's character need to die, anyway?

But in this episode, Chris, Drew and guest host Glen Lakin talk about how it's also a better movie that its reputation would have you think. Also discussed: Fairuza Balk being a precocious little moppet, Illuminati mind control, and how Return to Oz came to be the first and last movie directed by revered film editor Walter Murch.

Discussed in this episode: the surprising Dolly Parton connection, what got cut out of Joss Whedon's original script, and the funkiness of our respective chickens.
