In this episode, per fan request, I retro review the 1995 movie Murder in the First starring Christian Slater, Kevin Bacon and Gary Oldman. This movie is loosely based on the life of Henri Young, played by Bacon, who tried to escape Alcatraz and was thrown in the hole for over 3 years. He then ends up killing the inmate that ratted out their escape attempt and is put on trial. Slater plays Young's defense attorney who is unluckily assigned the case by the public defender. Oldman plays the sadistic assistant warden of Alcatraz who enjoys torturing Young. The movie goes over the trial and the subsequent verdict. If you haven't seen the movie, check out this review to see if it's worth changing that reality. If you've seen it, watch to find out what someone else thinks of it. Murder in the First also stars Embeth Davidtz, William H. Macy, R. Lee Ermey, Stephen Tobolowsky, Brad Dourif, Mia Kirshner, Ben Slack, Stefan Gierasch, Kyra Sedgwick. Brian has seen this movie probably 50 times. Jerome has not. Did Jerome miss out on an underrated cult classic from 1990 or is Brian completely out to lunch and loves a movie that is total trash? At the time Kevin Bacon regretted taking the role despite the fun he had making it, however the cult status of the film has led him to change his view and now sees it as his favorite movie that he's made. Will Brian and Jerome agree? This may make or break Creature Feature month.

To paraphrase Nelson Wright's first line in the movie, today is a good day to talk about "Flatliners." This beautiful and bizarre 1990 film directed by Joel Schumacher captivated Sarah and Raf as young adults, and they have a lot to say about it. But does it hold up like the museum's giant sculptures...or more like the leaking ceiling?Stylish and moody, "Flatliners" is the story of five ridiculously good-looking medical students who take turns stopping their hearts to experience the afterlife. They perform their deadly hobby in secret, surrounded by dramatic sculptures and murals of Greek gods in a museum undergoing renovations. So, yeah, it's not exactly realistic. According to Sarah, "It is absolutely gorgeous, and it makes absolutely zero sense." But -- at least to our hosts -- this movie doesn't need to make sense to be enjoyed. Its striking symbolism and what Raf dubs "tasteful excess" still look stunning, especially in the recent 4K transfer. "I recognize its flaws," Sarah admits (and the film does have a lot of flaws, like cultural appropriation and misogyny), "but I also love what works about it." Raf notes, "It is one of the front-line members of the goth army," following on the heels of 80s horror classic and fellow Kiefer Sutherland vehicle "The Lost Boys."With Spooky Season just around the corner (or already here, according to our hosts), now's the time to grab your giant pumpkin mask and consider rewatching "Flatliners." It's not for everyone; but if you're in the mood to see character traits expressed in apartment decor, highly pettable hairstyles, and a lot of eerie-looking steam, you just might enjoy seeing it again. Just please don't celebrate with a bonfire on the museum steps.
IT'S SPECTEMBER! And we'll have FIVE ghosty ghost movies coming at! The first up is David Koepp's adaptation of Richard Mathesons's 1958 novel A Stir of Echoes retitled as Stir of Echoes. From IMDB: After being hypnotized by his sister-in-law, a man begins seeing haunting visions of a girl's ghost and a mystery begins to unfold around him. Kevin Bacon is here along with Kathryn Erbie, Illeana Douglas, Kevin Dunn, Conor O'Farrell, and young Zachary David Cope as Jake. "People aren't always what they appear to be. Don't forget that." Amanda Jane Stern joins the show to discuss the 1998 erotic thriller Wild Things. This movie is filled with deceit, sex, corruption, and Kevin Bacon. Is this movie a lot smarter than the appeal to "frat Boys?" Even though there are some memorable sex scenes, we argue that maybe they were more important than that. Take a listen and don't forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. The early 2000s were filled with odd films and amazing films. One that should have made more of an impression yet seems to have somewhat disappeared is Paul Verhoeven's not-so-classic Hollow Man. The film was not a failure at the box office, but many seem not even to know it exists until they stumble upon it on television. How can a Paul Verhoeven film Hollow Man, starring Kevin Bacon, seemingly vanish from the general population's consciousness? Let's find out on WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

(Original Airdate - December 4th, 2019) Death Sentence is a 2007 American vigilante action thriller film loosely based on the 1975 novel of the same name by Brian Garfield; although the novel is a sequel to Garfield's Death Wish, the film is unconnected to the previous Death Wish film series. Directed by James Wan, the film stars Kevin Bacon as Nick Hume, a man who takes the law into his own hands after his son is murdered by a gang member as an initiation ritual; Hume must then protect his family from the gang's resulting vengeance. Death Sentence was released by 20th Century Fox on August 31, 2007, and was released on DVD on January 8, 2008. It was a box-office bomb earning $16 million against a $20 million budget, and received negative reviews from critics, who criticized the graphic violence and plot. SCRAPPED POEM-- "Kelly Preston is perfection Did I mention? She's in Death Sentence." -Spro HAIKU-- "Kelly Preston, d'oh! Kevin Bacon wraps his head and goes tit-for-tat." -Spro LIMERICK-- "Kevin Bacon kicks everyone's asses. Not one punk gets any free passes. He kills one and all. His morals all fall.

"Jesus, where did she get those shoes? "Whores for less"?" We watched "Wild Things" with our friend Samir Roy, and we're just as scanadalized as we were in 1998. The fact that this movie is celebrating it's 25th anniversary may feel like a personal attack, but we're just thankful we got to live through an era where a Southern Gothic, "Florida Noir" movie was made at all. They don't make erotic thrillers like this anymore and if they are, they're certainly not filled with a cast like this. Hot off the heels of franchise-in-the-making "Scream", Neve Campell is serving 90's teen angst like no other and we're just happy to cast our gaze on up-and-comer Denise Richards and that once in a lifetime face of hers. And can we talk about Matt Dillon and Kevin Bacon? We'll always swoon for Matt, but Kevin Bacon blessed us all with the coveted full-male-frontal and gay boys across the land rejoiced. We'll keep it real - this script is insane, but in the best possible way - Theresa Russel as Denise Richards oversexed mother is serving high camp. An entire generation of kids will have memories of watching this at sleep overs and gossiping about the oh so risque sex scene with the girl from "Party of Five" and that other girl from "Starship Troopers." The schemes in this script are so convoluted we can't keep track of who is triple crossing who, but the end is result is a classic. Last week we talked about Summer School, a fun light hearted Carl Reiner comedy that follows a band of misfit teens and their gym teach turned Joe Clark Lean On Me educator. But not all 80s summer movies are so sweet and silly. Some children weren't lucky enough to go on Zoo field trips and have parties at their teacher's house, Max. In the heart of the Pacific Northwest four young men were led into the wilderness by a deranged Kevin Bacon and forced to fend for themselves all under the guise of personal growth, adventure, and coming of age shenanigans. This movie would serve as a precursor to Bacon's 2000 Sci-Fi horror film Hollow Man, in that we should have known he was capable of killing a dog. So today, we'll try to understand how Ren went from saving a small town with a senior dance to trying to murder Mikey from The Goonies all while we paddle our way downstream chatting about the classic summer film, White Water Summer. I'm Mo Shapiro and joining me as always the confused cohost who wished he'd never seen this movie, Max Sanders. And with that...
