Mary Sean Young was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She is the daughter of Lee Guthrie (née Mary Lee Kane), an Emmy-nominated producer, screenwriter, public relations executive, and journalist, and Donald Young, Jr., an Emmy award winning television news producer and journalist. She has Irish, English, and Swiss-German ancestry. She grew up with an older brother Donald Young III and a sister Cathleen Young in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Cleveland Heights High School, and then transferred to and graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy. A trained dancer, she studied at the School of American Ballet in New York City, and did some modeling. Sean Young began a promising film career by acting in a Merchant-Ivory film Jane Austen in Manhattan, She followed that up in the comedy hit film Stripes. Soon, important directors were casting her in their films, such as Academy Award nominee David Lynch in Dune and Ridley Scott's film BladeRunner. Oliver Stone cast her in the hit film Wall Street. However, her other hit film No Way Out, which involved a famous steamy scene in the backseat of a limousine with Kevin Cosner, gave her star status. She was at the height of her fame, which led to her being cast as Vicky Vale in Batman. She had an accident while she was training for the film. As a result, she lost the role to Kim Basinger for what turned out to be the biggest hit of 1989. Young put on a brave face and gamely moved on to do comedies Fatal Instinct and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, the latter's box office success made Jim Carreya star, who immediately landed the role of the Riddler in the Batman sequel. Mary Sean Young is living in Austin, Texas. She created a new business venture called Austin Film Tours. It is Austin's first and only film location tour.Support the show

I wish that I could express just how bad I want to underline, enlarge, and make bold - the word "FINALLY" in this episode's title. In the 20+ years we've known each other I've been trying to convince Tyler to, at the very least, read DUNE by Frank Herbert. Or even to just come over and pop the 1984 David Lynch adaptation in my VCR. (That should have been an easy "yes" because of Sean Young, and Sting being in the movie). But, much to my disappointment - he continued to not be interested in giving it a chance. He didn't even listen when I described the greatness of the newest adaptation by Denis Villeneuve and the Allstar cast that came out in 2021. But - finally the day has come. Get ready to dive into an episode where not only was I proven correct - but, we talk about all there is to love about one of sci-fi's greatest stories - DUNE. A story that I've been obsessed with since I was around 10 years old. Somehow we dive into a few rabbit trails as to be expected - somehow even going down one on a Radiohead... Listen to our thoughts about David Lynch's version, the truth behind Tyler's long wait to dive into this universe, what he thinks now, and the magic of Denis Villeneuve. Thank you so much for listening - BE RAD! - Woody - SHOW INFO

Welcome to the Season 2 opener of Fabulous Film and Friends where this week we will be throwing down with a Battle of the Blade Runners , as we compare Ridley Scott's 1982 sci fi giant Blade Runner starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Darryl Hannah, William Sanderson, M. Emmet Walsh, Joanna Cassidy, Edward James Olmos, Brion James, Joe Turkel and James Hong with Denise Villenueve's 2017 follow-up: Blade Runner 2049, starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana De Armas, Jared Leto,  Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, , Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, Edward James Olmos and Sean Young.   Joining me are the two helped launch this podcast one year ago, Roseanne Caputi and Dave Johnson, DDS.  Set in a once futuristic, but now alternate 2019 Los Angeles megalopolis, Blade Runner centers around Rick Deckard, a Sam Spade-style, world weary ex-LAPD officer from a unit known as Blade Runners, who is pulled out of retirement to hunt down five artificial humans known as replicants.  Replicants are illegal on earth and used as slave labor in space exploration and colonization and five top of the line, Nexus 6 replicant outlaws led by super soldier Roy Batty, come back to earth in an attempt to extend their life span, which is limited to four years.  Aiding Deckard in his pursuit of the fugitives is the alluring Rachel, executive secretary to Dr. Eldon Tyrell whose corporation manufactures replicants. Upon meeting Rachel and administering a device on her known as Voight-Kampf, an empathy test used to detect replicants, Deckard learns that Rachel herself is a replicant, and while cold to her initially, Deckard ends up falling in love with her.  After Deckard confronts and kills three of the wanted replicants, -- with Rachel's help—he is pummeled and beaten by Batty and nearly left for dead until Batty has a change of heart and saves Deckard from a precipitous fall off a towering building. Battered and bruised, Deckard learns the true meaning of empathy and he reunites with Rachel. The pair escape Los Angeles and go into hiding, unsure of how long they have together.  Set 30 years later --after a great famine and information blackout, as well as a buyout of the Tyrell Corporation by a blind tech giant/savior named Niander Wallace, Blade Runner 2049 follows Blade Runner Agent K, who after a seemingly routine run-in with an erratic old style Nexus 8 replicant named Sapper Morton, discovers a link to events of the past that could change life on earth as they know it: the buried remains of the Replicant Rachel, who died  after giving birth to her and Rick Deckard's child. With that discovery, Agent K, a new-style tamed replicant himself known as “Joe” to his AI girlfriend Joi, embarks on a journey to find the identity and truth of Rachel and Deckard's human/replicant hybrid offspring, believing himself to be that very child that will start a revolution. This quest will lead K not only to Deckard but to a face-to-face confrontation with himself and his place in the universe. Who is the winner?

Steve Stanulis began his career as a decorated NYPD officer. When he was injured on the job, Steve worked security for a number of A-list celebrities, such as Leonardo DiCaprio. His A-list clients suggested that Steve pursue an acting career, and after studying at Manhattan's HB Studios, he was cast in The Replacements and Gangs of New York. As a working actor, Stanulis appeared in major studio movies (The Interpreter, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry), acclaimed indie films (Cupidity, Over the GW), and TV shows (The Sopranos, the new HBO series The Deuce). He also branched into production, starring in and producing the short films Dick & Jane and Because of You, and the award-winning feature The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch. In 2012, Steve Stanulis founded Stanulis Productions, Inc., with the feature film Long Shot Louie, starring Jake Robinson (The Carrie Diaries), winning Best Drama at the Williamsburg Film Festival. The film is available on Amazon Prime. Steve then created the Off-Broadway play Stripped, based on his experiences as a Chippendale dancer. Acclaimed in the New York Times, it was picked up by Planet Hollywood for a successful run on the Las Vegas strip. Steve continued pursuing his acting career, with co-starring credits in Aftermath with Tony Danza and Anthony Michael Hall, Darkroom with Elizabeth Rohm, Sam executive produced by Mel Brooks, and American Fango which was the winner of a dozen Best Feature awards and set for Sony/Vision Films release in November 2017. Steve also starred in and produced the comedy-drama The Networker, co-starring William Forsythe, Sean Young and Stephen Baldwin. It was directed by indie icon and frequent Stanulis collaborator John Gallagher and released in September 2017 by Sony's The Orchard. Making three consecutive films (Sam, American Fango, The Networker) acquired by Sony companies in less than a year is a truly unique achievement. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steven-cuoco/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steven-cuoco/support

Welcome back to Forbidden Cinema.  On our going deeper episodes, Zack goes into deep research mode to find the answers to questions you never thought to ask.  Sometimes the answers are fascinating.  Sometimes they are so horrifying that you wish we hadn't bothered. This week we look start to look at the career of Warren Beatty, but get distracted by how many famous lady's he had affairs with.  Then we look at the rights and box office, and everybody's gets dizzy so we move on.   We get distracted by the complex and potentially problematic career of Sean Young.  Then we deep dive Charlie Korsmo's (The Kid) CV and find disturbingly too much contact info. We look at the suggested searches after all this Dick Tracy nonsense.  We try to deep dive the career of Madonna, but are too star struck to function.  We spend a lot of time looking at the fashion, cars, and sets. In our "In Print" segment, we realize that we have pretty much worn out Playboy magazine from 1990, so Zack go crazy deep looking at the issue of the Washington PA Observer Reporter from the week this movie came out.  It turns out that things have changed quite a bit since 1990.

Today's show features one of our favorite films of all time, the 1992 Tim Burton classic BATMAN RETURNS, which celebrates its 30th anniversary on June 16, 2022.When Batman's 1989 theatrical run ended, it left theaters with a haul of $251M domestically, $411M worldwide, and was the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time.  Naturally, Warner Bros wanted to get to work on a sequel as quickly as possible.  However, Batman was the largest studio production Tim Burton had ever done at the time, and he was burned out.  Instead of running right into production on a second Batman movie, Burton opted to make a smaller and more personal film for 20th Century Fox called Edward Scissorhands.  Following the end of production for Scissorhands, Warner was already in production on the next Batman and wanted to ramp up the villainy by having two villains for the sequel.  Turning to screenwriter Sam Hamm who offered a story that focused on the villains Catwoman and The Penguin.  Warner Bros then offered Burton the option of either directing another Batman or a Beetlejuice sequel.  Ultimately, Burton decided on Batman because he was a fan of “animal people,” and the sequel provided an opportunity to do the kind of Batman story he loved as a kid. The rest is movie-making history.    In this show, we do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself.  Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam packed with entertaining and interesting discussions.  If that sounds like your sort of bag, hang out with Kenny and Del as they get into Batman Returns.  Penguin Parents Theory:  https://screenrant.com/batman-returns-penguin-murder-parents-paul-reubens-diane-salinger/The Batman Theory:  https://www.cbr.com/batman-theory-joel-schumacher-films-movies-within-movies/Sean Young costume stunt: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/catwoman-sean-young-costume-stunt-203437872.htmlMichelle Pfeiffer whipped the heads off those four mannequins applause from the Batman Returns crew!  https://youtu.be/FaWwG41_A9kThanks for listening and feel free to hit us up on any of our social media platforms!https://linktr.ee/BiAPodcastTheme song "Loli'ana" written and performed by award-winning musician Kamuela Kahoano.   Listen to more of Kamuela's music on iTunes and https://kamuelamusic.com/.  Also, "Loli'ana" performed live at The Ko'olau Banquet Hall can be seen here https://youtu.be/YDJ1NNJgEiA  If you enjoyed our show, subscribe and check out our new shows that drop every Friday.  Also, new this year, our non-routine Hot Topic show where we discuss what's hot in the movie world and our Anniversary Specials, which are 30 minute show that pay tribute to a movie celebrating a significant anniversary.

As he was a self-proclaimed “Ridley Scott fanboy”, we will be discussing the Sci-Fi noir “Blade Runner” this week. Adam is joined by Brittany Reinholz-Hobson (from our “Audition” episode) to discuss a myriad of topics on this complicated film: from the different cuts to Ridley's struggles with the producers; from the treatment of Sean Young to the unicorn and “who is a replicant?” question. This movie is a mountain of talking points – and while we did not get to everything, we feel good about the depth we got to on each idea. Also, this week Brittany recommends “I Saw the Devil” (currently ad-free on Kanopy) and Adam recommends “Battle Royale” (also currently ad-free on Kanopy). 0:00 – Intros 4:36 – “I Saw the Devil” 9:10 – “Battle Royale” 13:16 – “Blade Runner” Stats/History 43:22 – “Blade Runner” Plot/Thoughts 1:46:56 – Final Thoughts

An uplifting film for the whole family and based on a true story, NO VACANCY follows a jaded reporter demoted to a rural news bureau who finds her cynicism slowly transformed as she befriends a recovering addict and writes about a church struggling to purchase a motel for homeless families. Starring Sean Young (DUNE, BLADE RUNNER), T.C. Stallings (COURAGEOUS, WAR ROOM) and Dean Cain (GOD'S NOT DEAD, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), NO VACANCY premieres May 9 in more than 700 cinemas nationwide for one night only. "In a time of bitter division and acrimony in our country, our creative team thought it was an appropriate time to release a movie based on the true story of a community coming together in a literally miraculous way," said Art Ayris, CEO of Kingstone Studios, which produced the film. "The Orlando ABC affiliate had previously done eight feature stories plus M6 in France and Japan's Nippon television had all journeyed to Florida to do stories. We realized this was a story with appeal far beyond central Florida and needed to be told in a way that only a motion picture can communicate. Though the movie has a few fictional components and characters, it is closely based on the true story," Ayris added. Distributed by Fathom Events, NO VACANCY is directed by Kyle Saylors. His documentary KIMJONIGILA was the first film ever screened at the U.S. Capitol private theater and led to a congressional hearing and the first sanctions against the North Korean prison camps. NO VACANCY is written by Ayris, whose production credits include Best TV Movie Hollywood's Next Success contest; Best Feature Florida Film & Television; Best Feature Angel Awards, graphic adaptation, for SONY Affirm theatrical release The Remaining; and over 60 comic, animation and film credits. Ayris served as executive editor of the Kingstone Bible, which was a finalist for Christian Book of the Year in the Children's Category.

Sean Young looked poised to be a star in the 1980s. She appeared in Stripes, she was the love interest in Blade Runner—instantly achieving icon status—and she was great in thriller No Way Out. Then she got cast as Vicki Vale in Batman. That should have brought her career to the next level. Instead, it was the beginning of the end. Years of addressing bad behavior and refusing to flatter male egos had set the stage for Sean Young to be made a Hollywood pariah. And the match that set off that fuse? He refusal to accept that Batman Returns director Tim Burton wouldn't even see her for the role of Catwoman after she was forced to drop out of Batman due to a fractured arm. Mark Peikert walks us through the no-nonsense behavior that primed Hollywood to gleefully take down a woman who refused to play the game, leaving us to wonder what could have been for Sean Young. If you're old enough you may be surprised to discover that this short sci-fi story was written by a man whose work you have enjoyed on the big screen for 40 years! His 1968 novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” became the 1982 movie Blade Runner, Starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos.  A 1966 short story he wrote showed up on the big screen as the 1990 smash hit Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone.  Other box office blockbusters based on his works are Minority Report directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise, and 2011's The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.  Amazon produced 4 seasons of “The Man In The High Castle”, based on his novel with the same name, set in a parallel universe where the Germans and Japanese win World War II and rule the world.  Sadly he wasn't alive to see these incredibly successful movies. Philip K Dick passed away in March 1982, 3 months before Blade Runner debuted. He was only 53. Philip Kindred Dick was a prolific American science fiction writer. He wrote 44 novels and somewhere around 120 short stories, most of which appeared in science fiction magazines like the one we're going to share with you in today's episode of the lost sci-fi podcast. His work, although cherished by many, received very little acclaim for about 10 years until he wrote the novel The Man In The High Castle. Todays lost sci-fi short story first appeared in December 1953 in “Science Fiction Adventures” Magazine which cost 35 cents.
