Break out the spyglass! It’s time to forecast what is coming in 2026 We’ve got 2025 in the rear view window, and Hollywood has determined to not just relegate horror movies into the fall/Halloween schedule. Springtime apparently is a good time to have a big fear injection. So, we had to get the word out on movies you can anticipate coming to a theater near you! Admittedly, we’re out a little late this year. But, I would suggest we are just in time! Surprisingly, there are a lot of horror movies that are being released in late March. It also happens to be the eve of when many of the big genre film festivals get rolling. Sundance has just completed. SXSW is right on us now. Overlook is around the corner. So is Panic Fest. With these festivals, it sets the table for what you all can expect to come out this year. It becomes a bit of a guessing game for those of us who attend these festivals to predict what films are going to be on the schedule. Horror has proven to be profitable in what used to be a dead period for box office. Already, both Iron Lung ($50 million on a $3 million budget) and Send Help ($92 Million) opened up strong in January, traditionally the dumping ground for cast-off studio films. With the tremendous profitability and critical response to last year’s crop of films, we will see what will become this year’s banner carrier. My guess? Scream 7. There isn’t a studio backed big prestige movie like Sinners or Weapons this year, but I could very easily see a Neve Campbell led Scream 7 into a $300 million earner, much like Final Destinations: Bloodline from last year. If Scream 7 lives up to its potential, it could fly past that number. I don’t think that the effect of last year’s horror boom will be felt until next year’s crop. The studios didn’t have enough time to understand the influence until the season largely wrapped in October, well after prduction had wrapped for most films getting released for 2026. A Good Year for Indie Films? The indie horror films are in abundance this year. SXSW has a huge roster of genre films. Overlook just announced their roster, and so has Panic Fest. Usually there is a lot of overlap, but not so much this year. That suggests a wide variety and a lot of options out there. An that’s not taking into account the large Summer and Fall festivals like Frightfest, Popcorn Frights, and Screamfest. As usual, there will be films that we didn’t see coming because they come with zero fanfare, but end up surprising us with original storytelling or raw savagery. Better yet… both! We always summarize what we did from the previous year, and I think we actually did pretty well in our selections for 2025. You can check out last year’s predictions HERE. Will 2026 be as solid for Scariest Things selections? Listen in, and remember this come the end of the year! Episode 209: Looking Forward to 2026 Note… we announced this one episode off. This week, Tommy is joined by actor Anna Camp, known for memorable roles across film and television, including Pitch Perfect, You, and now the latest chapter of the Scream franchise. As this is the first interview Anna has done since the release of Scream 7, she opens up in this spoiler-filled conversation answering all the burning questions you have about the movie. Anna also shares what it was like meeting franchise legends like Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox. With limited details in the script, she reveals how she contributed lines that made it into the final film. Beyond the horror world, Anna reflects on the lasting cultural impact of Pitch Perfect and why Aubrey became such a beloved and quotable character, even among the most unexpected fans. She talks about what makes Aubrey so fun to play, the possibility of a fourth film, and the kind of wild future she imagines for the character. The conversation also turns personal as Anna discusses the importance of human connection in her work, the support of her family, and how her understanding of love has evolved over time. That Ghostface killer just won't go away because while he's stacking bodies in these Scream movies, he's also stacking large stacks of cash for the movie studio. Therefore, I now present you “Scream 7”, the latest in the blood-soaked, big bucks franchise, started way back in 1996. In these movies, we're now in the era where the final girl from most of the early Scream movies, Neve Campbell as Sydney Prescott, has had movies and books written about Ghostface killers terrorizing her. She's a celebrity and she's back as the main character in this latest installment. Joining her from the 1996 movie cast is Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers, the former news reporter and now media personality. A major new player introduced in “Scream 7” is Sydney's daughter, Tatum, played by Isabel May and she's the typical rebellious, moody teenager girl who annoys her Mom. Throughout the course of this movie, she learns she needs her Mom, and her experience with the psycho killer in the mask and black robe. Will mother and daughter survive this movie? Is it worth going to the theater to find out? Find out in this episode of Movies Merica! “Scream 7” also stars Jasmin Savoy-Brown, Mason Gooding, Joel McHale, McKenna Grace, Anna Camp, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, Matthew Lillard, Kraig Dane, Ethan Embry and Mark Consuelos. Ghostface is back. Sidney Prescott is back. Kevin Williamson — the writer who started it all in 1996 — is back, this time in the director's chair. And The Film Board is here to pick through the wreckage.Pete Wright convenes the panel — Tommy Metz III, Steve Sarmento, and Mandy Kaplan — for a full-spoiler autopsy of Scream 7, the franchise's seventh installment and its most complicated origin story yet. The film arrives trailing the collapse of a whole other movie: Melissa Barrera's firing, Jenna Ortega's departure, two directors exiting before a frame was shot, and Neve Campbell finally getting what she was owed to come back. What ended up on screen bears those scars — and the panel doesn't look away from them. There's plenty to argue about. Tommy arrives as the franchise's longest-tenured Film Board voice and delivers his most critical take yet — the kills are flat, the villain reveal is the weakest in franchise history, and the AI deepfake conceit is nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. Steve, against form, finds himself in the film's corner: the Sidney-Tatum mother-daughter dynamic gives him something real to hold onto, and he'll take that over clever-but-hollow any day. Mandy had a genuinely good time, found Anna Camp's casting as transparent as a freshly-cleaned window, and would very much like Tatum's next chapter to be a musical. Pete sits somewhere in the middle — glad to have Kevin Williamson back, troubled by what he had to work with, and still thinking about the better movie that never got made. They get into the production chaos, the Barrera-shaped hole in the script, the question of whether the AI angle says anything worth saying, the correct use of a panic room, the mystery of a certain line reading, and whether Scream 7 has dethroned Scream 3 at the bottom of the franchise pile.
The Scream Queens crew take a quick detour OFF ROAD for a brand new Mini-Sode! In this bite-sized episode, we dive into the newest entry in the franchise, Scream 7. Did Ghostface deliver the thrills… or leave us screaming at the screen?
This week the guys head to Screamville and talk about Scream 7. They open the show wondering why MTD isn't there. He is buying a new Civic and Brad wonders if it's a lateral move from a Subaru. They finally get into Scream and wonder what it would be like if there was a Ghostface in every state. MTD trains each one to make them the killing machines they need to be. The guys wonder about Ashley and how she is doing since this is her favorite movie series of all time. Brad laments the fact that Neve Campbell is in this movie and wishes Jenna Ortega was in this movie. The guys wonder what a reality real world house would be like if it had iconic slasher killers in it just hanging out while MTD is the host. Plus, The wonder who would win in a fight, Ghostface or Jason Voorhees. Episode 308: Scream 7. We start with the critically acclaimed Brazilian thriller The Secret Agent. Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, it stars the brilliant Wagner Moura as a man on the run navigating the heights of Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s. It's a masterclass in tension and atmosphere.Fun Flix Fact: To achieve its stunning, retro look, the film was shot in anamorphic Panavision, the same format used for 1970s classics. The director even included a "two-faced cat" as an omen—a nod to Brazil's own dual reality of the past and the future. The Ghostface mask is back! We're reviewing the latest instalment of the legendary slasher franchise. Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott, and this time, the stakes are personal as her daughter becomes the target.Fun Flix Fact: This is the first film in the entire franchise to be directed by Kevin Williamson, the man who actually wrote the original Scream (1996)! After 30 years of producing and writing, he finally stepped behind the camera to bring the Woodsboro story full circle. Finally for our main reviews, we're heading to the 19th-century Caribbean for The Bluff. Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays a woman with a secret past who must protect her family when vicious buccaneers (led by a terrifying Karl Urban) invade her island.Fun Flix Fact: Priyanka Chopra Jonas performed a massive amount of her own stunts for this film. Drawing on her extensive background in Bollywood action cinema, she reportedly surprised the stunt team with her "hard-hitting physicality" during the brutal home-invasion sequences. To tie into the political intrigue of The Secret Agent, we're celebrating 20 years of the film that earned Forest Whitaker his well-deserved Oscar. We revisit the terrifying regime of Idi Amin through the eyes of his personal Scottish doctor (James McAvoy).Fun Flix Fact: Forest Whitaker was so dedicated to the role that he stayed in character as Idi Amin even when the cameras weren't rolling. He learned to play the accordion, mastered the Ugandan accent, and even met with Amin's real-life brother and former cabinet members to perfect the performance. For this week's Hidden Gem, we're recommending the epic historical musical The Testament of Ann Lee. Amanda Seyfried stars as the founding leader of the Shakers in 18th-century Manchester and America.Fun Flix Fact: This is a rare breed—a "historical musical" shot on 70mm film! It features more than a dozen traditional Shaker hymns reimagined as rapturous musical numbers. If you loved Amanda in Les Misérables, you absolutely cannot miss her powerhouse vocals here. And if that's not enough entertainment for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. James Cameron-Wilson is not a fan of #1 Scream 7, despite the return of Neve Campbell. He didn't care for the characters, found the film nasty and thought it made no sense. He was more positive about The Testament of Ann Lee, with Amanda Seyfried giving a career-best performance as the founder of the Shaker movement with an excellent Mancunian accent. It's a bonkers film, being a musical biopic on an enormous visual canvas but it shows what cinema can do and is very memorable. Come See Me In The Good Light is an extraordinary documentary – nominated for an Oscar – about a poet with terminal cancer and how they deal with it. It is deeply moving but also full of joy and laughter. It is also one of the most intimate and personal films about a relationship. Learn more about your ad choices. With Scream 2 in the foreground after certifying the series as a franchise, it would seem that everyone associated with the horror films had better things to do than come back for its (at the time) swan song. Specifically, star Neve Campbell and director Wes Craven. Campbell was working on Party of Five and a film called Drowning Mona. And Craven wanted to wade his way through the horror ghetto to do the Meryl Streep starring Music of the Heart. Writer Kevin Williamson submitted outlines, but he was also busy not only directing his first feature Teaching Mrs Tingle, but he was also doing a failed TV show called Wasteland. Enter writer Ehren Kruger, who the Weinsteins hired to flesh out Williamson's concepts. Though Kruger allegedly threw out these concepts and did a script that Craven was rewriting each day on the set. So once again we have a movie built on chaos. Does it rise above like before? Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam as they review Courtney Cox's hai…I mean, inclusion in this film, as well as a killer reveal Adam has no idea how to feel about. Does that warrant a good review?? Come back in the ensuing weeks as we lead up to a review of this year's Scream 7!

From IMDB: Sequel to the hot film Wild Things, Wild Things 2 sees teenage bad girls Maya and Britney go on a sex and killing spree to win millions. That's what IMDB says, but don't get it twisted. This is NOT a sequel to the original 1998 movie with Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Matt Dillion, and Kevin Bacon. It's an IP title alone with liberally lifted parallels to the original.) The long running "Scream" franchise shows up for a seventh iteration and the LAMB is there to talk about it. How does it measure up to the earlier episodes, are the new characters interesting enough to keep track of, wait, the killer is...you are kidding me? Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox return to the series, and they bring some legacy characters to the show in a way that may frighten you more than anything going on on screen. Horror veterans Lisa Leaheey, Amanda Kirkham and Richard are joined by fright film dilettante Nicole Ayers for a slice of Hollywood mining operations. The opinions will surprise you more than the killer reveal.

For this week's main podcast review, Katie Johnson, Dan Bayer, and Aaron Isenstein join me to discuss the latest film in the "Scream" franchise, "Scream 7" with Neve Campbell, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Courteney Cox reprising their roles from the previous films, and Isabel May, Anna Camp, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Mark Consuelos, Tim Simons, and Joel McHale also starring. Following the exit of "Scream" (2022) and "Scream VI" directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett in August 2023, Christopher Landon was hired to direct the film. However, the film underwent creative retooling after the firing of star Melissa Barrera and the departure of Jenna Ortega in late 2023, with Landon also leaving the project. In March 2024, Campbell confirmed her return to the franchise after being absent from the last film, with series creator Kevin Williamson hired to direct the film after serving as writer and producer on the early films in the series. This latest entry follows a new Ghostface killer who targets Sidney Prescott's daughter. After all the controversy surrounding its production, what did we think of the final product? Tune in as we discuss the story, its use of legacy characters, its themes of AI technology and generational trauma, the brutal kills, the franchise's future, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. 'The View' co-hosts and guest co-host Amanda Carpenter preview President Trump's State of the Union address after he says he will highlight the “greatest economy” in his remarks tonight, discussing what they expect to hear from him. The panel also weighs in after California Governor Gavin Newsom faces backlash over accusations that he racially pandered to the audience during a recent event with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens — a charge Newsom calls “fake outrage.” They also react as the BBC and BAFTA come under fire for the broadcast of the BAFTA Awards, where a racist slur from an audience member with Tourette syndrome was not censored, prompting a public apology to Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo. Plus, Neve Campbell joins the show to celebrate her return as Sidney Prescott in 'Scream 7,' reflecting on reuniting with her original castmates and why the character still resonates nearly 30 years later.
