The battle for Warner Bros. Discovery is seeing a new champion enter the ring, with Netflix making some moves to put their own bid in for the studio's properties. According to Reuters, the streaming pioneer engaged with investment bank Moelis & Co. in order to prepare an offer. Ironically, this is the same bank that worked with David Ellison at Skydance to take over Paramount whose first bid to buy Warner Bros. Discovery was rejected. It was the worst weekend at the box office this year, with ticket sales coming in at just $52.4 million. This also makes it the lowest-grossing Halloween weekend in 31 years, excluding theater closures due to COVID in 2020. While new film Regretting You took in a respectable $50 million, Black Phone 2 really has the crown from the weekend having now brought in $104 million globally - another huge win for horror this year. Yorgos Lanthimos' new film Bugonia, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, is sitting at a small $11.1 million globally after breaking into more theaters. Both Scream 7 and Stranger Things Season 5 released trailers recently. Stranger Things' official trailer showed us a bit more of what to expect from that property and Scream 7, which releases on February 27, 2026, gave us a glance at the returning original cast members of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, and David Arquette. As we discussed last week, Stranger Things will release in three parts on holiday weekends, four episodes on November 26, three episodes on Christmas Day, and the finale on New Year's Eve.A 'Conjuring' prequel film is in development at Warner Bros. and New Line, with short film director Rodrigue Huart in talks to direct. Franchise veterans Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who co-wrote the two prior “Conjuring” films, 2023's “The Nun II” and this September's “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” are on board to pen the screenplay. After landing the rights to turn one of the world's biggest video games into an epic movie, Paramount has now landed two A-list filmmakers to develop it. Sources tell Deadline that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg have joined Paramount and Activision to develop and produce a Call of Duty movie, with Paramount distributing a live-action feature film.Hulu has ordered two more seasons of the revived King of the Hill animated series, the 16th and 17th overall and third and fourth seasons as a streaming original. Season 14 premiered in August and is the first half of Hulu's initial two-season, 20-episode order; season 15 is set to debut in 2026.Sam Mendes' four Beatles films have filled out the cast by adding the spouses of the four band members. Saoirse Ronan will play Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai will play Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood will play Pattie Boyd, and Mia McKenna-Bruce will play Maureen Starkey.Ariana Grande has joined the cast of season 13 of American Horror Story, which is currently on track to debut around Halloween 2026.Toho has officially revealed the title of its next “Godzilla” feature that will serve as a sequel to Godzilla: Minus One as “Godzilla -0.0” (Godzilla Minus Zero). The film will once again be written, directed and produced by the same team behind 2023's “Godzilla Minus One.” Currently, there are no plot details, but the studio is currently targeting a release date in late 2026.Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are going back to the desert for The Mummy 4. The film will be directed by the duo known as Radio Silence, composed of Martin Bettinelli-Opin and Tyler Gillett, who directed 2019's Ready or Not.

This episode of Geeks Unleashed, "Episode 207 - The Black Phone 2," hosted by Mark and Stef, is a Halloween-themed discussion that covers gaming news, a new movie trailer, and a deep dive review of a horror sequel. The main segments and topics covered include:Gaming News: Xbox & ExclusivesThe hosts discuss the major news that the flagship Xbox franchise, Halo, is coming to PlayStation, starting with a remastered campaign of the first game [01:33:42].They view this as a continuation of a trend, noting that Forza and Gears of War exclusives have also gone multi-platform. Steph suggests that the future of gaming is about convenience, and console exclusives are no longer the "make or break" factor they once were [01:15:10].Mark expresses disappointment over the Game Pass price increase, calling the jump to $30 "a lot" [01:17:08].Scream 7 Trailer ReactionThe hosts react to the new Scream 7 trailer, with Mark expressing his annoyance about the controversial firings/departures of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega [26:22].Mark is pleased that Neve Campbell is returning to the franchise [27:24] and notes a cool callback: her daughter is named Tatum (after her friend in Scream 1) [27:41].They also discuss the fan theory about Matthew Lillard's character, Stu, potentially having survived the events of the original film [31:53].The majority of the episode is dedicated to reviewing the sequel, The Black Phone 2, which Mark and Stef agree is a clear cash grab after the success of the first film.Story Shift & FocusThe first film was a "horror thriller," but the sequel is a full-on "horror supernatural" film, focusing more on the sister, Gwen, and her psychic abilities [53:37].Both hosts were disappointed by the shift, wishing the sequel had instead focused on the brother Finny's trauma after his experience with the Grabber [56:57]. Steph was particularly turned off by the introduction of dream fighting, comparing it to A Nightmare on Elm Street (Freddy Krueger) [58:47].Criticisms & PraisesMajor Criticism: Despite the R/18 rating, no one dies in the entire movie, other than the three victims killed before the film's events [01:03:00].High Points: They praised the acting (especially Ethan Hawke as The Grabber) and the film's visual style/cinematography [01:00:58].They enjoyed the redemption arc for the father, Terrence, who has gotten sober after the first film and is dealing with the family's legacy of "the shine" [01:03:43].The character of Armando, the camp supervisor who dedicated his life to finding the bodies of the original victims, was praised as a compelling figure [01:07:24].Sequel ThoughtsMark (3/5) and Steph (2.5/5) would not rewatch the film.Mark suggests a prequel focusing on The Grabber's origin story as the best way to continue the franchise [01:21:16].For Halloween, Stef shared a few horror recommendations:Overlord (2018)The Sickening (Korean/Taiwanese zombie film)Night of the Comet (Classic '80s horror)The episode closes with a discussion of older music players like the Walkman and MiniDisc, and the announcement that next week's episode will be a review of Revival Season 1.You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.

The film stars Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True as four outcast teenage girls at a Los Angeles parochial high school who pursue witchcraft for their own gain and experience negative repercussions. The Craft was theatrically released in the United States on May 3, 1996 by Sony Pictures Releasing. It received mixed reviews from critics but was a surprise hit nonetheless, earning $6.7 million in its opening weekend and $55.6 million worldwide, against a budget of $15 million.

The film stars Robin Tunney (Empire Records, Vertical Limit) as Sarah Bailey, the new girl in town who discovers her own latent powers; Fairuza Balk (American History X, Return to Oz) as Nancy Downs, the troubled and power-hungry leader of the coven; Neve Campbell (Scream, Party of Five) as Bonnie Harper, a shy girl who uses magic to heal her scars; and Rachel True (Half Baked, Nowhere) as Rochelle Zimmerman, who struggles with racism and bullying before turning to witchcraft for retribution. Other cast members include Skeet Ulrich (Scream, Riverdale) as Chris Hooker, the manipulative jock, and Breckin Meyer (Clueless, Road Trip). Highly searched and iconic moments include the girls levitating each other (“Light as a feather, stiff as a board”), Sarah's mirror-shattering showdown with Nancy, Bonnie's scar transformation, Rochelle's revenge against her bully, and Nancy's terrifying descent into madness. The Scream movie series continues to have the same types of red herrings in the mystery while remaining innovative. While not as good as the first couple of movies in the series, this movie doesn't disappoint and has another great cast with newcomers like Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, and Mikey Madison, and brings back series favorites like Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette. Available HERE. Blockbuster box office. Critical acclaim and Oscars recognition. From Get Out and M3GAN to The Substance and Sinners, the horror genre is enjoying a glorious–and gory–golden age. Screaming and Conjuring details the films and frights that led to this extraordinary renaissance, from the release of the groundbreaking Scream in 1996 to the arrival of 2013's The Conjuring, which spawned a multi-billion dollar franchise. Written by entertainment journalist Clark Collis (author of You've Got Red on You: How Shaun of the Dead Was Brought to Life), this exhaustively researched book is the first in-depth examination of a remarkably fertile and influential time for big screen horror. Wes Craven's Scream was followed by a flood of classic terror tales such as The Blair Witch Project, The Sixth Sense, Final Destination, The Others, Pan's Labyrinth, 28 Days Later, Resident Evil, Saw, Hostel, Paranormal Activity, and Insidious. This comprehensive history covers the often difficult and tortuous making of all these films (and many more), giving readers the exclusive lowdown on productions which were often as intense as the horrifying sights that ended up on screen. Screaming and Conjuring features recollections from a host of genre icons, including actors Jamie Lee Curtis and Neve Campbell, directors Eli Roth and Sam Raimi, and legendary makeup effects artist Greg Nicotero. The book also includes 200 production stills, film posters, and rarely seen images. Blood. Sweat. Tears. More blood. Showers and contributor Jess Melendez use the soft, rumored announcement of “Scream 8” as a “Sidney story” to analyze and compare the “Scream” and “Halloween” franchises, focusing on the necessity and public perception of Neve Campbell and Jamie Lee Curtis. Specifically, they take a long-arc view of both franchises and compare the Danielle Harris entries of “Halloween” in the 1980s to “Scream” (2022) and “Scream VI.” The conversation highlights the importance of Sidney Prescott's character in the “Scream” series and critiques the notion of passing the torch to new characters. Then, Ryan invites Quentin Harrison for the first-ever “Ryan's Reviews” segment covering the Jack Quaid film from January 2025, “Companion.” Hallo-Scream: Neve Campbell Returning to Scream 8 Sidney Prescott & Laurie Strode The Long Arc of History & Danielle Harris "Companion" Review "Death by a Thousand Cuts" Find us on Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, BlueSky, and Youtube. Jesse Spano trades textbooks for stripper poles to dance her way through a 24/7, nipple tweaking tantrum in Paul Verhoeven's infamous, eternally iconic TRASHterpiece, SHOWGIRLS (1995). Sick of bad sex and surmised of murder, smoky siren Linda Fiorentino is suspected by CSI's OG sunglasses guy, David Caruso, in William Friedkin's convoluted, surprisingly sterile flop, JADE (1995).
