Do This, Not That – Standing vs. Sittinghttps://youtu.be/s5iEyh79-HAEver since we are young, we already knew that standing and walking are good for our health. And as we grow older, we tend to just let these facts sit behind our consciousness. Not because we don’t care anymore, but more of we’ve just been so engrossed with work that we can’t afford to stand up even for a couple of minutes a few times a day. And besides, we might even argue that a few minutes spent standing from our desk during work won’t do good after all. Well, that’s a myth! As trivial as it may seem, standing up every 20 minutes can burn an extra 170 calories per day, leading to 1000 calories per week, leading to a pound of fat every 3 weeks. Did you know that? It sounds exciting, right? Well, here are a few more facts about standing and walking that might give you the push to give it a shot no matter how busy you are sitting, and working at your desk:6 FUN FACTS ABOUT WALKINGFun Fact #1: Walking helps improve your mental well-being by releasing endorphins and reducing stress. It also prevents the early onset of dementia and lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.Fun Fact #2: Walking works wonders with your lungs. Being a form of aerobic exercise, walking aids in increasing the flow of oxygen into the blood. It also aids in the elimination of toxins and wastes from the body.Fun Fact #3: You can lower your risk of getting colon cancer by just walking every day for 30 minutes. Walking regularly also aids in digestion and promotes good bowel movements.Fun Fact #4: Compared with sitting, standing for 90 seconds can help increase blood flow to the vital organs and it also aids in the delivery of nutrients throughout the body. Walking also activates fat-burning enzymes that promote weight loss.Fun Fact #5: Sunlight exposure while walking helps improve your mood because the brain is stimulated to increase the production of serotonin. And we know for a fact that serotonin is also called as the “happiness hormone.” In contrast, low levels of serotonin have been linked to depression.Fun Fact #6: Sunlight promotes the production of Vitamin D from cholesterol. Specifically, once the ultraviolet B (UVB) rays from the sun hit the cholesterol in the skin cells, the rays provide enough energy to start the synthesis of Vitamin D. Having enough Vitamin D in the body is crucial in maintaining a healthy immune system, healthy bones, healthy heart, and pretty much in promoting optimum health. On the other hand, low Vitamin D levels have been associated with various health problems such as osteoporosis, depression, cancer, muscle weakness, and even death. The last two might be about sunlight exposure, but I am sure you got the message that it’s best to combine walking with sunlight exposure. So, wake-up early, and feel the cold morning breeze while walking. If you can’t, then you can spend your first break from work outside of your office and just walk around for a couple of minutes. What You Should Know About SittingWhen we are sitting, we are deactivating lipoprotein lipase enzyme or we are not mobilizing fat. So if we are putting too many calories inside our body than what we are burning from standing, it can lead to fat buildup. We need to sit and chill, of course. We deserve it. But, that is not an excuse not to make it a habit to stand up even just for a couple of minutes a few times a day. If you are busy with your deadlines, or if you are so focused on the series that you are watching on Netflix, then I recommend that you do this helpful tip: get a smartwatch or simply set an alarm from your phone.Set your alarm to ping you

Foods with low-GI value (55 or below) are the ideal choice because they are slowly digested and absorbed by the body. In effect, foods with low glycemic index don’t cause a fast and huge rise in the blood sugar levels.According to studies, a diet that has a low glycemic index is effective at reducing blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. A low-GI diet may also help in the pregnancy of women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. Moreover, foods that are low in glycemic index can improve blood cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of certain types of cancer, reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, and may help you lose weight.#2 It is High in Healthy Omega-3 Fatty Acids Eating winter squash regularly can enhance every major nutrient category in your body. Cultured Cashew Spread – Healthier Alternative to Your Regular DipsDips, anyone? I bet everyone will raise their arms in a heartbeat, and I would understand. Because who doesn’t love to pump up their meal with some dips? The thing is, deliciously satisfying as they are, you know that you couldn’t be munching on dips regularly. And if possible, you should even pass on these treats for good. Letting go of some of your favourite food choices and looking for healthier alternatives are just some of the predicaments that you can’t avoid. So, it’s my mission here at Your Life is Non-Negotiable to give some options when it comes to switching around. And in this article, I am going to share about one healthier alternative to your regular dip – the cultured cashew spread. What Are Its Ingredients?Well, I know you will ask. Frankly speaking, I am confident to read the ingredients of Rawesome cultured cashew spread out loud – it has cashews, filtered water, chives, onion powder, organic enzyme culture, and sea salt. That's it. That's all. So Rawsome classifies themselves as raw vegan, no dairy, no soy, no GMO, no oils, probiotics, gluten-free. And I must say, their cultured cashew spread tastes delicious. What’s Wrong with Your Regular Cream Cheese?I have here with me Brand XYZ of your typical cream cheese product. They say no artificial flavours or colours. But unfortunately, there are a couple of things here that we have to talk about. So the first ingredient is modified milk. And basically what that means is that they've processed the milk. When they've been able to process the milk, sometimes they add a few chemicals in there. Sometimes they filter out the caseins and some of the proteins. Because when you remove these things, it allows for a little bit more shelf life. And because it's not really milk anymore and it's not really cream anymore, they have to call it modified milk. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad. It really depends on where the dairy is coming from. The dairy is the problem. Before they processed the milk, they have to get it from the cows, of course. So the question is what are they feeding the cows with? Most of the time, they feed the cows with a whole bunch of stuff, including corn, wheat, and soy. And as I’ve shared before, these three are probably the cheapest plants to grow and the easiest to modify. They also feed them to cattle because they're super cheap. So chances are they're feeding them these GMO products that are filled with pesticides. Corn, wheat, and soy will certainly bulk up the cattle and that means it's also going to bulk you up. Huge amounts of soy can dramatically play a role in messing up your estrogen levels. So, it's more a matter of what has been put into the cow that is producing this dairy. You're basically eating whatever the cow ate and whatever the cow was injected with – hormones, estrogens, antibiotics, which is usually not all that great or not all that healthy. Moreover, since the caseins and other proteins and beneficial things are removed, chances are the micronutrients are also disrupted while the dairy product is being processed. And of course, there are people who are intolerant to dairy. That is why this cultured cashew spread is a great alternative since it doesn’t contain dairy at all. Another ingredient that messes your regular dip is potassium sorbate, which is a widely used preservative found in food, drinks, and personal care products. Potassium sorbate plays an important role in prolonging the shelf life of the product. It is odorless and tasteless, but it can cause allergic and hypersensitivity reactions. And it also has the potential to cause a lot of inflammation in the body, especially if taken in lar
Eat This, Not That - Clean Meat vs. Dirty MeatClean meat and dirty meat? How do we draw the line between them? Are you aware of the type of meat you are eating right now? Or do you even care? Let us talk about these two types of meat to clear some gray areas and answer some questions running in your mind. And after which I am sure you will be more careful with your meat choices.Let’s Talk About Clean MeatIf you do a quick Google search, you will learn that the other terms for clean meat are in-vitro, lab-grown, or cultured meat. Or it’s the meat that is grown in cell culture rather than inside of the animal’s body. Well, that’s not the type of clean meat that I am talking about here.In this article, I am referring to clean meats as those that are produced from local family farms. And you have the option to buy clean meats that are grass-fed or better yet grass-finished. The crucial thing about clean meats is that the animals where they came from were raised without hormones or antibiotics. And you can see that on the label.Unfortunately, most of the time, we need to personally go to the farms. We need to verify the living conditions of the animals, how they are being treated, what do they eat, and practically how are the meats being produced. And I know that is not always a practical and easy route to take. Hence, alternatively, it would help to do a little research about the farm and to ask for referrals from the people in your community who are fastidious with the type of meat that they are eating. What Do We Mean by Dirty Meats?First things first – we don’t know what the animals are being fed. Nowadays, corn, wheat, and soy are among the biggest food sources that these animals are eating. And as we all know, corn, wheat, and soy are only going to plump us up even more. So we don't want the GMOs; we don't want the pesticides. And we certainly don't want corn, wheat, or soy in epic amounts in our body.So in buying meats, you have to be very aware of what the animals are being fed before you put inside your cart and eventually inside your body. And unfortunately, the majority of meats that are being sold from these big box stores don’t have this information on their labels. If it's not written on the label, you can almost guarantee there's some kind of nonsense going on in there. Back in the days when there was an Ebola virus outbreak, they were even feeding carcasses into these animals to get protein inside them. Can you imagine eating meat from animals that were fed with carcasses? The second thing about dirty meat is that you need to know what is being injected into the animal. The last statistic I heard was that 85% of the antibiotics sold in North America, primarily in the United States were actually sold to farmers. That's a whole lot of antibiotics and they need to inject these animals with antibiotics because of the living conditions that they're in.So you can go and explore this world on Netflix and the various documentaries out there. I highly recommend that you do both sides of the research, especially in Canada, because you have a wide source of family farms that are fighting tremendously against the horrific treatment of these animals. So there are both sides to that coin. You have to be very careful. Support those farms that are in favor of treating their animals properly, feeding them properly with the right foods and not injecting them with all sorts of antibiotics, hormones, growth hormones, and estrogens.Another mind-boggling fact about dirty meats is that they are loaded with not just one, but three forms of unhealthy sodium – sodium nitrate, sodium erythorbate, and sodium phosphate. That is way too much salt to gobble. And the sad thing is that you don’t even know or you don’t even care to put on extra effort in finding out about thi
Why Zevia is a Healthier Alternative to Your Favorite Sugary Sodas?Drinking sugary soda may be a hard habit to break, and oftentimes, quitting from it cold turkey can lead to a stronger urge to drink more. Hence, instead of bidding soda a bitter and sudden goodbye, it’s easier and more realistic to search for healthier alternatives. Some people just can’t stand drinking water all day. They would always long for that tingling sensation every time their favorite soda passes through their throat. The same concept applies to all of your unhealthy cravings. The good news is you are capable of making better picks. And you can start making smarter decisions in your diet by looking for healthier alternatives to your unhealthy choices. And today, I will start by sharing about Zevia, my personal favorite as far as replacements to carbonated beverages is concerned. What is Zevia? Contrary to what most people think, Zevia isn’t a single beverage or soda. Instead, it is a line of all-natural, zero-calorie refreshing beverages. And yes, all Zevia products don’t contain artificial ingredients and they are colorless because they don’t have added colors even caramel or whatsoever. Zevia products – sodas, organic teas, mixers, and energy drinks – are 100% sweetened with stevia leaf extract. Whether you believe it or not, stevia leaf is 200x sweeter than the regular sugar, but here’s the good catch – it has zero caloric value! And aside from that, it is also friendly to diabetic patients because it doesn’t raise blood sugar levels.Do Zevia drinks have the same strong punch as the regular sodas? Well, honestly speaking, they don’t. And they also lack the strong flavors of your favorite carbonated beverages like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, or Mountain Dew. However, they are good enough to satisfy your cravings and of course, they are far healthier alternatives even from the so-called “diet” colas, which contain aspartame, a known carcinogen. I couldn’t emphasize enough that if you are a regular soda drinker, you are setting your health down the road of diabetes or cancer. And no sane individual would want to choose either of these fatal conditions. But sad to say, the reality is that there are a lot of people who struggle each day with these two serious medical conditions and even more. Five Reasons to Switch to Zevia All-Natural Cola Most of the time, healthy food or drink options tend to be bland, but that’s not the case with Zevia. In fact, Zevia sodas are available in 14 delicious flavors, and they also have products that contain caffeine. Let’s face it, we do need a little boost once in a while. If you think these are enough reasons to make your switch easier, wait until you find out more about the five reasons why you need to give Zevia a shot.Zevia is Available Across Every Beverage CategoryWith the help of stevia leaves, this Los Angeles-based line of healthy beverages is able to offer zero-calorie and zero-sugar drinks from sodas, organic teas, drink mixers, sparkling water, and energy drinks. What else could you ask for? Zevia is the answer to your guilt-free pleasures. Zevia Beverages Meet the Demands of Different Meal PlansWhatever diet you are right now – Keto, Paleo, gluten-free, kosher, or vegan – each can of Zevia beverage would go well with it. Zevia products are also good alternatives if you are avoiding GMOs or certain minerals like phosphorus and sodium. Moreover, they are also free from the 8 FDA regulated allergens: milk, fish, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, wheat, and soybeans. Studies Have Shown That Stevia is Better Than Artificial SweetenersLike what was said earlier, all Zevia products are sweetened by stevia leaf extract. And the wonderful thing about this plant is that it helps lower blood sugar levels to as much as 18% as
Chip “ os” and Its Healthier Counterpart – Beanfields Bean ChipsDo you love The Chips that End in “os”?If you do, then you might develop a love-hate relationship with me after reading this piece. Chances are you’ll hate me for bringing up the devils that surround …. “os” and these kinds of chips again. But, after a while, you’ll also love me for reminding you about these things once more and for adding more reasons for you to ultimately turn your back on them. Frankly speaking, how much XXX “os” can you eat from one sitting? I bet you can eat more than 12 chips, right? Well, that’s not surprising given its addictive qualities. And I specifically mentioned 12 chips, because that is equivalent to 1 serving. You get the following for every 12 chips of XXX “os”:150 calories8 grams of fat, including 1 gram of saturated fat180 mg of sodium (8% of the daily maximum intake)No vitamins and minerals (practically speaking)2 grams of fiberAlthough the nutrition facts at the back say that it doesn’t have trans-fats, XXX “os” does have vegetable oil. And in the food industry, one practice that is commonly observed is the addition of hydrogen to the oil (in a process called hydrogenation) to make it more solid and to prolong its shelf life. And the problem with hydrogenation is that it leads to the formation of harmful trans-fats. We all know that trans-fats can result in a host of negative effects on the body including heart disease and stroke. How Long Does it Take to Burn 150 Calories? For an individual weighing 150 lbs., burning 150 calories could be done by doing either of the following activities:Jog for 19 minutesRide a bicycle at a pace of 10 to 12 miles per hour for 22 minutesJoin an aerobics class for 22 minutesPlay soccer for 19 minutesHike outdoors for 22 minutesWalk at a slow pace for 53 minutesSwim at a vigorous pace for 19 minutesJoin a ballet class for 22 minutesScrub the floor for 30 minutesWhy XXX “os” Are so Addictive? If you’ve ever consumed a pack of XXX “os” by yourself, then you should tell from experience how addictive it can be. And that limiting yourself to just 12 chips or less is already a tough battle to win. But, why is that so? What’s in it that makes you crave for more? The New York Times broke down the facts from Steven Witherly’s book entitled, “Why Humans Like Junk Food.” The cheesy powder is primarily responsible for XXX “os”’ addictive prowess. Who doesn’t love cheese? It’s just simply irresistibly delicious. And XXX “os” capitalizes on that fact. Moreover, scientifically, cheese contains proteins that once digested are converted into casomorphins, which are morphine-like compounds. Yes, that kind of morphine. Now you know why it’s just so addictive! And the for XXX “os” dust that sticks on your fingers is more addictive since they are more concentrated. So, you might want to skip licking those off your fingers next time (if you find the urge to eat again). But, that doesn’t stop there!XXX “os” has also been intentionally engineered in a way that you’ll always want for more. Its complex aroma and taste were specifically formulated with the end goal that you won’t experience what scientists call as “sensory-specific satiety” or sensory burnout. Hence, you won’t feel a fullness tha
Hello, hello everybody and welcome to your life is non negotiable podcast. This is a podcast where we help women make their health and life non-negotiable after they have neglected their bodies while caring for the people that they love. And the problem is it's this kind of thing stacks up on you all the time. You tend to let yourself go. The moment that life gets in the way, why is our health always sacrificed the minute we feel overwhelmed with time. Meanwhile, it is my mission and my passion to help people understand that especially when you are crazy stressed out. This is the time that's most important to make sure you are exercising and burning out that stress, making sure you're eating healthy. So you can think clearly through all these problems. We do that through a six week transformation program. It has been extremely successful. We've served over 1200 people through this program at this point and we've had a phenomenal success rate as a result. So today and over the next 30 days, we're going through a 30 day, this not that challenge. And that was X inspired by one of my clients a couple of weeks ago when she said, you know, I know I need a little bit of a reboot and I've sunken into a few of my old habits and I need to switch up for a couple of healthier alternatives. So it's my mission over the next 30 days to give you some options when it comes to switching around, uh, what you, uh, normally snack on. So today we're covering dips, dip, dip, dip, dip, dips. I'm gonna not show company names here. So a, this is the company name that I do actually want to start with. Love these guys. These guys are called Rossum. What kind of company name is that? Isn't that perfect? They are rasa because it's raw food and they are awesome. So listen, this is a non cultured, a cashew tree, a cream cheese. So for those of you guys who love your cream cheese, you love your vegetable dips, you love just adding a little bit of flavor to vegetables or you shouldn't be having those bagels. But if you are, this is, um, a really great alternative and it's with great pride that I can read those ingredients to you. You've got cashews, you have filtered water, chives, onion powder, organic enzyme culture, sea salt, boom. That's it. That's all right. So they classify themselves as raw vegan, no dairy, no soy, no GMO, no oils, probiotics, gluten free. Um, guys, it tastes delicious. Like they really, this company does an amazing job. I really love. It's part of our staple. Um, so I'm going to compare that with X, Y, Z company here, which I'm not going to say out loud, but this is your, your typical, um, cream cheese product. They say no artificial flavors or colors. Um, but unfortunately there's a couple of things here that we have to, um, talk about. OK. So the first ingredients is a modified milk ingredient. And basically what that means is that they've processed the milk. Um, when they've been able to process the milk, sometimes they add a little bit of chemicals in there. Sometimes they filter out the key scenes and some of the proteins that, um, when you remove those things, it allows for a little bit more shelf life. Right. And because it's not really milk anymore and it's not really cream anymore, they have to call it modified, um, milk. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad. It really depends on where the dairy is coming from. The dairy is the problem. So the cows, when they are feeding the cows, they are usually feeding the cows with a whole bunch of stuff, including corn, wheat and soy. As we talked about in yesterday's podcast, corn, wheat and soy are probably, um, the cheapest, uh, plants to grow and the easiest to modify. They also feed them to cattle because they're super cheap as well. So chances are they're feeding them these GMO products that are filled with pesticides. Uh, corn, wheat and soy is definitely, I'm gonna bulk up the cuddle, which is why also that they feed the

I’m so excited to introduce you to Your Health is Non-Negotiable Podcast. This is now the Episode # 2 of my brand new series, which I hope to bring to you everyday at 11:00 AM EST live on my Facebook Page.In these motivational moments, it's my goal and my passion to help you make your life and your health nonnegotiable. No matter what is happening in your life, you need to protect yourself. You need to love yourself. In this episode, I would like to talk about Setting Standards that are going to last a lifetime. And it's really important that your standards come from a place of education. It's really the foundation of what the 6 Week Transformation Program is really built upon because so many people, so many of us women have been following fitness plans. Whether it is traditional plans or trendy diets for a certain amount of time. But, we tend to listen to what worked for somebody else. And of course we stay very focused on following the instructions very closely for X amount of weeks. And then, once that challenge or program is over, all of a sudden we stop following the directions of what someone else gave you.And what I love to do in my program is to help you set your own standards that is built on education that focuses heavily on helping you understand:How your body works. How to fuel it.How to move it properly. Then, you can start setting your standards based on something that you believe in. And when you believe it by heart, and when you know it in your mind, you're more likely to follow something based on what's important to you versus what someone is telling you to do. So it's important that you start to create ideas. That's something you know and you believe in. The best way that I can give you an example of this is: You could have decided that it's a good idea not to Rob a bank. If I told you tomorrow you could go to ABC bank on the corner of the street and if you rub it, you will get $100,000. Although the idea of $100,000 sounds pretty darn awesome, the consequence of robbing that bank is far greater than the money, right? Nobody wants to get caught by the police. Nobody wants to be thrown in jail. And at some point you've said that the consequence of going to jail is far outweighs the wants and needs for that hundred thousand dollars. You can be starving, but you're still not going to go and Rob that bank. You're going to find other ways, right? When it comes to your food and your fitness, I like you to try and make that mindset shift. When you start making decisions based on what are the chemicals or lack thereof that you're going to put into your body, you want to understand what would be the consequences because it far outweighs weight loss. The point is not just that, because weight loss is just a side effect of what we receive in this program. We want to focus on healing the body from the inside. We would like to learn the consequences and understand:How some food damages our body. How it can disrupt our entire endocrine system. How it can really, really play with our mental cognition,How does it affect the overall functions of the body. It's not a situation of saying, “Oh, I'm going to gain 10 pounds now if I eat those Doritos. ”No, it's understanding all of the chemical, dyes, MSG, and what they are doing to my brain and how it affects the functions of my body.Or, all of a sudden the idea of eating Doritos anymore is not an option. It's not a matter of seeing something like I don't want to or I’m not allowed Doritos. And then the first thing I do when I’m off the program is run to the store and buy a bag of Doritos. But at some point, when I made a conscious decision that I like, and refuses to put that in my bo
