Culture is often touted as a core driver of organizational success, yet few leaders truly grasp how it is shaped—not by slogans or aspirational values on posters, but by the subtle signals of what is tolerated every single day. Allowing destructive behaviors, even passively, sends a clear message to your team about what is truly acceptable, gradually eroding performance and morale from within. The "silent killers" of team performance don't announce themselves; rather, they creep in quietly, undermining collaboration, excellence, and engagement. This episode shines a spotlight on three such destructive yet easily overlooked threats: mediocrity, passive resistance, and poor communication. Understanding and proactively confronting these factors is essential for anyone seeking to build a high-performing, resilient culture. Leaders who are willing to audit their own tolerance levels, set clear standards, and address dysfunction early position their teams—and themselves—for sustainable success. In this episode, I sit down with my 22-year-old daughter Maggie to talk about something so many of us have experienced—heartbreak. Maggie recently walked through her first serious breakup, and we had an honest, emotional, and surprisingly hopeful conversation about what that process looked like for her.We talk about why Jeffrey and I chose to hold off on dating during our kids' high school years, what Maggie learned as she navigated her first relationship as a young adult, and how deeply painful and disorienting it was when it ended. Maggie shares how she processed the grief (spoiler: video diaries and lots of tears), how God showed up for her in unexpected ways, and what healing has looked like on the other side.If you're a mom walking through something similar with your daughter—or you're someone healing from heartbreak yourself—this conversation is for you. We hope it brings you comfort, encouragement, and maybe even a few laughs. Hearts may not be built to be borrowed, but I believe God meets us right in the middle of the breaking. Here is yet another story of how individuals found cannabis to be beneficial for their own personal medical needs. The difference in this story? These people went on to grow a grassroots organization called EduCanNation, a non-profit association of Certified Cannabis Educators. While many traditional healthcare professions remain hesitant or outright dismissive of cannabis medicine, EduCanNation is stepping up to bridge the gap between scientific understanding, consumer needs, and the ever-changing legal landscape. The leaders within EduCanNation aim to set the national standards for all Cannabis Coaches and Educators. In this episode, Kirk and Trevor continue their discussion on the emergence of Cannabis Coaches and Educators—an unregulated, but increasingly necessary role—seems to be a natural response to the gaps in education and access that exist in the heavily regulated cannabis space.EduCanNation - WebsiteJay Jay O'Brien- LinkedInShawna Dunbar- LinkedIn(Yes we got a SOCAN membership to use this song all legal and proper like)Music by:Pass It On - Bob Marley & the Wailers - YouTubeAdditional Music:Desiree Dorion desireedorion.comMarc Clement - FacebookTranscripts, papers and so much more at: reefermed.ca

Let's jump into the backseat of Vishwas Aggrawal's Uber and take a trip you won't forget. This is a story about setting your own standards in a world constantly hammering us into "human resources." This is a story about setting your own winning lines in a world that wants us to be widgets. This is a story about raising the bar for yourself and deeply valuing the human connection and love that has the potential to exist between every single one of us. Uber has no formal leaderboard, reward mechanism, or pay-for-performance tied to driver rating. So why would Vish care? Why would he care about giving thousands of rides and pouring in day after day of high-end customer services to establish an incredible 4.99 rating? Why would he clean his mats between every trip, only eat raw vegetables in his car to avoid odors, and develop masterful scripts that help riders feel deeply valued in the middle of their busy days? Why bother? Join me in the backseat of Vish's Uber as we slowly circle closer and closer to what we're really playing for in our short time on the planet. We discuss the books that shaped Vish from his upbringing in India to his journey to give his daughter a better education on the other side of the world... even if it meant starting back at the beginning. Vishwas Aggrawal is one of the most engaging and inspiring people I've ever met. After you listen to his story in this classic 3 Books chapter, I hope you feel the same way. Let's flip the page to Chapter 7 now...

The first AI Engineer World's Fair talks from OpenAI and Cognition are up!In our Benchmarks 101 episode back in April 2023 we covered the history of AI benchmarks, their shortcomings, and our hopes for better ones. Fast forward 1.5 years, the pace of model development has far exceeded the speed at which benchmarks are updated. Frontier labs are still using MMLU and HumanEval for model marketing, even though most models are reaching their natural plateau at a ~90% success rate (any higher and they're probably just memorizing/overfitting).From Benchmarks to LeaderboardsOutside of being stale, lab-reported benchmarks also suffer from non-reproducibility. The models served through the API also change over time, so at different points in time it might return different scores.Today's guest, Clémentine Fourrier, is the lead maintainer of HuggingFace's OpenLLM Leaderboard. Their goal is standardizing how models are evaluated by curating a set of high quality benchmarks, and then publishing the results in a reproducible way with tools like EleutherAI's Harness. The leaderboard was first launched summer 2023 and quickly became the de facto standard for open source LLM performance. To give you a sense for the scale:* Over 2 million unique visitors* 300,000 active community members* Over 7,500 models evaluatedLast week they announced the second version of the leaderboard. Why? Because models were getting too good! The new version of the leaderboard is based on 6 benchmarks:*
