If you ever saw my oldest son, when he was younger, eating a hamburger, you'd see how quickly it disappears. I'm sure that you would find it hard to believe that there was a time when he was actually too young to eat one. Yes, but we have the movies at home to prove it! You've seen this little baby eating this mush that only babies eat. He didn't have any equipment to chew a hamburger with, right? So we'd feed him this smooth, beaten-to-death version of the real thing – no chewing, no effort, it just kind of slides right on down. Now he has to work harder on it these days, like when you're eating a steak. But he seems to have no desire to go back to the good old days of baby food. The best food will require some effort, but it's worth it. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about “Lazy Listeners.” Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Hebrews 5, and it's about lazy eaters. I'm beginning at verse 11. The writer says, “We have so much to say to you, but it's hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need somebody to teach you the elementary truth of God's Word all over again. You need milk, not solid food. Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” Now, the writer of Hebrews is writing to some Christians who insisted on food that didn't demand much of them. In this case, milk. They were lazy eaters. Well, that kind of laziness is all too common among a lot of us Christians today; we are, in North America, some of the most entertained Christians in history. We're so spoiled by our radio preachers, our TV shows, our seminars, our Christian celebrities. We want our sermons to be funny, and exciting, red-hot challenging, and short. We want our speakers to be entertainers. We expect our teachers to be brief, to the point. How dare they talk too long! And we want our pastor to chop up our food for us and give it to us Gerber-ized. We like melt-in-your-mouth messages that don't take a lot of effort. Well, there are a few very gifted pastors or speakers who do 80% of the chewing for you. All you have to do is meet them with maybe 20% of your attention; you don't have to put a lot of effort into it. But most of God's messengers require careful attention from you, a determination to follow along with them, a willingness to make your own applications and connections. There are some people who have a lot to say from the Lord, but they require you to come maybe 40-50-70% of the way. There are writers like that. You say, “This is hard to read.” But it's worth sticking with it; it's worth chewing. See, a spiritual leader doesn't have to be funny or have a ton of charisma in order to feed you God's Word. He doesn't have to be some famous preacher or TV celebrity. God has put you under the teaching care of someone who loves God and cares about you; one of his servants. Don't expect that leader, that pastor, that teacher, that writer to do all the chewing for you. Give your God-appointed teachers your very best. When you listen to them, go prepared to chew, to work for your good meal. You're too big for baby food. Lazy eaters never grow up. So, don't be too lazy to chew a good piece of meat.
In this episode, Ashley is getting honest about the lie she believed for years: that winning meant staying productive every single minute. She breaks down why rest, fun, and a full life are the engine behind success. In this episode, she breaks down: ✨ Why stress triggers your brain and narrows your ability to think creatively ✨ How relaxation activates the part of your brain that generates your best ideas ✨ What "artist dates" are and why every entrepreneur needs to put them on the calendar ✨ How vacations directly improve business outcomes ✨ Why people buy your energy before your offer ✨ What exhaustion and frustration do to your business without you even realizing it ✨ How ads create the margin you need for more time, more memories, and more life You will leave this episode with a completely new way of looking at rest, creativity, and what it actually means to build a business that funds a life worth living. If you've ever said "I'm so disciplined in my career, I just don't have it in me for fitness," this episode is for you. I'm breaking down a client archetype I've never spoken to directly on the show, the rebel: the high-achieving woman who knows exactly what to do, has the coach and the plan, and still acts against her own self-interest. Swaps different movements in than what's in her programmed session because she "can," eats around her macros vs hitting them because it "doesn't matter that much," and half-follows the plan she's paying for. Inspired by a conversation with a seven-figure-business-owner friend (I call her Elise), I unpack why the rebel and her apparent opposite - the overcomplier who does too much - are actually running the same program: both are responding to control. We get into what your rebellion is really protecting (a sanctuary, an exit, your ego), why "discipline fatigue" is actually redirection, and how your own expertise becomes a factory for credible excuses. Then I get practical: how to tell when the rebel is onto something versus just creating noise, the prediction test for catching yourself, what real coaching leadership looks like for a high-agency woman, and a concrete framework (Elise's "bottom lining") for making honest decisions with full information. The goal was never to kill the rebel. It's to put you back in the driver's seat so your discipline finally serves you instead of being burned in protest. -- This episode is brought to you by AX3 Life. Send us Fan MailThe fastest way to start a pointless fight is to speak in tribes. When we say “Muslims believe,” “immigrants do,” or “the West is under attack,” we're usually not describing reality, we're advertising a shortcut our brain wants to take. I break down why that lazy language is so tempting, how it fuels tribalism, and what moral psychology can teach us about asking better questions before we pick a side. Then we run a debate clip that perfectly captures modern discourse: the conversation leaps from “Britain is being destroyed” to London crime, to Brexit and the EU, and then straight into the loaded question “Can Muslims coexist with the West?” We pause on the moments where definitions go missing and the goalposts move, because that's where bad arguments are made. Along the way we touch UK economics and austerity, immigration as an economic force, and what the crime numbers actually get used to imply. From there, the debate turns to refugees and the uncomfortable context behind the headlines: Iran, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and how war, sanctions, and long-term instability shape migration. Context doesn't excuse everything, but it does explain why trust breaks, why “just fix it” is not a serious policy answer, and why comparing countries without comparing their history is a setup for propaganda. We close on purpose with something constructive: a Harvard commencement message that lands like a blueprint for how to disagree without dehumanizing. If you want better conversations about religion, immigration, politics, and identity, start here. Send us Fan MailTouch is one of the most debated topics in movement education. Some teachers believe tactile cueing is one of the most effective tools available. Others argue that it is often overused, creates dependency, or becomes a shortcut for unclear communication. In this episode of The Pilates Exchange, Hannah and Christian dive into the tactile cueing debate and explore a question that is far more interesting than whether touch is "good" or "bad":How do great teachers decide which tool to use, when, and why?We discuss:when tactile cueing can accelerate learning and body awarenesswhy touching a client should never be the default solutionthe difference between helping someone learn and simply moving them into positionbodily autonomy, consent, and respecting client boundarieshow teacher ego can sometimes influence coaching decisionswhether tactile cueing creates independence or dependencyand why the best teachers develop a wide range of communication tools rather than relying on a single approachUltimately, this conversation is not really about touch. It is about decision-making, teaching philosophy, communication, and how we can better serve the human being standing in front of us.Because tactile cueing is neither inherently good nor inherently bad.Like every coaching choice, it should be made intentionally, respectfully, and in service of the client's learning experience.Season Sponsor:OfferingTree is an all-in-one business management platform built for boutique pilates and fitness studios. Everyone keeps telling Neil how lucky he is — lucky to do what he loves, lucky to travel, lucky to work alongside his son. But what if "luck" is just a lazy word for the years of grind, sacrifice and uncommon decisions most people aren't willing to make? Recorded on the road in Osaka, Japan, this solo episode digs into whether luck is real at all. Neil unpacks a decade-long study by Dr Richard Wiseman at the University of Hertfordshire, which suggests lucky people aren't passive recipients of fate — they create their own fortune through identifiable, trainable traits. You'll learn the four research-backed characteristics that lucky people share — openness and flexibility, relaxed attention, trusting your intuition, and positive expectation — and how each one applies directly to building and growing your tutoring business. It's a practical, no-BS look at turning chance into opportunity. If you've ever been told you're "just lucky," this one's for you. KEY TAKEAWAYS Reframe "luck" as the by-product of doing difficult, uncommon things — the risks, the work and the sacrifice that others simply aren't willing to take on. Cultivate openness and flexibility: staying open to new experiences widens your "catchment area" for opportunity, which links directly to entrepreneurial risk tolerance. Adopt relaxed attention rather than constant worry — anxiety and rigid focus cause you to miss the opportunities and patterns hiding in plain sight. Train your intuition through practices like journaling and meditation, then trust your gut when making career and relationship decisions. Hold positive expectations for the future, because your brain sorts for what you expect — making optimism a self-fulfilling prophecy and a non-negotiable for success. QUOTES "It's not lucky if you get what you want, if you go where you want, and you're with whom you want." "Balance to me just means average, means mediocre. And I wouldn't be settling for that." "Lazy is a shortcut word. It's a placeholder that allows shallow minds to bypass the process of how success and mastery is actually built." "They didn't see the years of grind and sweat and sacrifice that gets you to a position where people think that you're lucky." "You always get what you expect because it's what you're looking for and it's what your brain sorts for." In this roundtable episode, I sit down with Cheryl Burton-Murphy and Libby Supan for the kind of conversation that feels like three women pulling up chairs, telling the truth, and refusing to pretend healing is simple. We talk about eating disorder recovery, intuitive eating, body autonomy, GLP-1s, intentional weight loss, and the messy gray area that so many people are afraid to touch. Cheryl shares what it feels like to live eight years on the other side of a 40-year eating disorder, Libby brings her perspective as a therapist, certified intuitive eating counselor, and someone who has done her own recovery work, and I share more of my own evolution from “absolutely not” to “let me research the actual nuance here.” We dig into childhood diet culture wounds, body shame, medical bias, food rules, recovery, and the weird culty corners that can exist on both sides of the health conversation. This episode is funny, honest, spicy, tender, and very “think for your damn self,” because healing is not about trading one rigid rulebook for another. It is about learning to trust yourself again. As always, I hope something lands with you today. AI is becoming the new homework buddy for a lot of kids. Need help with a maths problem? Ask AI. Need an essay outline? Ask AI. Need to understand a complicated science topic? AI can explain it in seconds. But is that a good thing? Some people believe AI is helping children learn faster by giving them instant answers, personalized explanations, and access to information that was once difficult to find. Others worry that kids are becoming too dependent on it, skipping the hard work of thinking, researching, and problem-solving for themselves. If a child uses AI to understand a topic better, that's one thing. But if they're using it to do all the work for them, are they actually learning anything? As AI becomes a bigger part of everyday life, parents, teachers, and students are all trying to figure out where the line is between using a helpful tool and taking a shortcut. There's nothing to fight for. Train crime is "down." Pearl calls. Adolescent misbehavior.
Tuesday, 2 June 2026 Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. Matthew 20:14 “You bear the ‘yours', and you go! I will, also, this: the last to give as also you.” (CG) In the previous verse, the housemaster told the grumbler that he was a scammer, asking if he didn't agree to a denarius. Without waiting for a response, he next says, “You bear the ‘yours', and you go!” In other words, “You got what we agreed on. That is yours. Take it and hit the road.” Having said that, he continues with, “I will, also, this: the last to give as also you.” If such is his will, it has not harmed anyone else. Rather, it was an act of his own charitable goodness to hand out money as he saw fit. There was no wrongdoing, no intent of malice toward another, and the only wrong involved is that of perception by a person who had received what he agreed to work for. Life application: In the United States, it is common to tip people who work in service industries, especially waitresses. They normally receive less pay for the work they do with others based on the anticipation that when they do a good job, they will be rewarded for it by those they serve. It is true that some cultures or individuals don't tip, but that disregard for the care of others is their own issue. The poor servers just have to bite their lip and live with it. Besides such people, tipping is how some people are able to pay their bills. However, at some point in the past, some restaurants came to the ridiculous conclusion that it was unfair for one server to make more than the others. Think about it. You have hired Lazy Linda. She does the minimal amount of work, is late serving people their food, and shows up ten minutes late every day. You also have Moaning Myrtle. She never smiles, complains to the customers about the amount of food they order, and has plenty of words about her unhappy family life to share with complete strangers. You also have Piggy Peggy. Her clothes are dirty, she doesn't smell very good, and if she laughs, it is more a grunt than anything joyful. She delivers the food randomly, and when you get it, it seems something may have been picked off the plate on the trip between the kitchen and your table. And then, there is Amazing Amy. She shows up early, always has a well-pressed, clean uniform, smiles at everybody, never has a bad word to say about anyone or anything, and never stops helping others. Her customers become regulars, they know her birthday, and always wish her a merry Christmas with a nice little gift. Why on earth should Amazing Amy have to split the $1000.00 a day she makes in tips with Lazy, Piggy, and Moaning, who collectively make about 85 cents in tips on a good day? This rewards indolence, negative attitudes, and sloppy work. It also penalizes hard work and outstanding effort. The first laborers hired by the housemaster got exactly what they agreed to. Maybe they worked hard, or maybe they slouched on the job, but the housemaster was faithful to meet his obligation to them. The last people were given a great measure of grace, receiving what today would be considered a nice tip for their minimal labors. But nobody was wronged in the process. Be content with your pay. If you are unhappy with it, or with how your boss treats others for whatever reason, as long as he is not violating any law, remember that there are other options available on the other side of the door. As Christians, we should always strive to do our best at whatever we do. Jesus' name rests on us. So honor the Lord first. In doing so, everything else will find its proper place. Lord God, may we rejoice when others are successful. If we want what they have, may we be willing to expend ourselves to obtain those things. May we not be envious of what we do not possess. And, Lord, keep us from taking from others what they have rightfully earned. Amen.
In this video I talk to YY Ahn about using Claude Code for Research. Normally in Too Lazy to Read the Paper, somebody explains a paper to me, because reading papers is hard and talking to people is fun and natural. And if someone's too lazy to read the paper, they're definitely too lazy to read the manual. So today there's a new format. There's no paper. Instead there's a thing we're all talking about in the shadows – agentic coding, Claude Code. The whole business of handing an AI your research and letting it write and run the code – and my sense is that getting started on this is a big hurdle to a lot of folks. So to help them (and myself, I'm sitting down with all-round genious, renessaince man, deep thinker, conneseur of all things coding and living in the terminal, and honest, decent person, YY Ahn. Send us Fan Mail"Those who sleep don't catch any fish." – Italian Proverb Gerald the Duck is, without a doubt, the most magnificent duck in Snaggleton. He has cloud-white feathers, a polished orange beak, and a very dignified waddle. He is also, unfortunately, rather lazy! Lately, Gerald has decided that waking up early to hunt for delicious Sludge-Snails in the castle moat is far too "inconvenient". Because he loves his beauty sleep, Gerald starts waking up late—only to find that the other ducks have already eaten every single snack in the water! When Nolan the Gnome Knight warns him that "those who sleep don't catch any fish," Gerald simply sniffs and points out that he eats snails, not fish, completely missing the point! To teach him a lesson about effort, Nolan commands Gerald to fly him to Sparky Flarkbottom's workshop. There, Gerald watches the gnome inventor try to build an Auto-Rocking Hammock. Sparky spends the entire day failing. Instead of giving up, Sparky keeps adjusting her gears until she finally achieves success on Test Three. She shows Gerald her backyard—a mountain of junk filled with exploded boilers and half-melted robots. Sparky proudly calls them her "lessons," proving that you have to be awake to make mistakes, and you have to make mistakes to get the prize! In this kids story podcast episode, Gerald finally understands the metaphor. Watch as he braves the freezing dawn, swallows a bit of mud, and learns that breakfast tastes a whole lot better when you have to work for it! It's BKFK Book Month!
