Episode 236 of our Advent Mini Series focuses on the hope of Jesus featuring Luke 1:26-33. As we READ, we know that there are 400 years between the old testament and new testament. When the angel, Gabriel, visits Mary we can know that she has remained faithful since she found favor with God after all this time. The promised time has finally arrived; how could holy hope not play a role here? Hope implies that anticipation of something coming. The hope of Jesus is here! As we enter into Advent this year, we reflect on the hope God gave us through the birth of Jesus Christ. In the Gospel of Luke, when Mary receives news that she will give birth to the Son of God, we see that this is God's blessing and the fulfillment of His promise to redeem His people. That God would come in the flesh meant radical change for the entire world as well as in each of our personal lives. Back then, and still now, the news of Jesus' imminent birth is the ultimate reminder that we have hope because Jesus is Emmanuel - God with us - not just in the future, but presently and eternally.

Around this time of year there are so many things pulling for our attention, and by the time Christmas comes were usually glad its over. Christmas should be a time of focus and celebration of the birth of Christ, but it has become about so many other things. Advent is a time of reflection that brings our mind back to the purpose. This first week of Advent we focus on the Hope of Christ through the passage of Isaiah 9:6-7. I. It was a Prophesied Hope. (Vs. 6). II. It was an Anticipated Hope. (Vs. 6). It is an Expected Hope. (Vs. 7).

The world needs a Messiah, and the Jews were eagerly awaiting theirs. He was to be a mighty king who would come and save his people. They did not expect their Messiah to come in the form of Jesus. Isaiah 9 and 11 give us a glimpse of what is to be expected in these Messianic Prophecies.
