The U.S. House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, formerly the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, is a bipartisan select subcommittee created to provide congressional oversight of the Trump administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Once Republicans flipped the House, members voted to continue the committee, but its purpose changed to investigate the origins of the virus, COVID-19 policies made by the government, and most importantly for this story...nursing home mortalities. Chairman Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) and Ranked Member Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) discuss where the committee is in its progress to examine what went right and what went wrong during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: On Wednesday, President Joe Biden appeared to be using a “cheat sheet” while speaking with the press. The sheet appeared to list pre-approved questions from specific reporters—along with written responses President Biden could use. The ramshackle facility makes the original form of gunpowder, known today as black powder, a highly combustible material with hundreds of military applications. The product, for which there is no substitute, is used in small quantities in munitions to ignite more powerful explosives…the factory remains offline, unable to deliver its single vital component to either commercial or Pentagon customers… Today that's emerging as a gnawing problem for the U.S., whether in supplying weapons and ammunition to Ukraine or in restocking reserves to prepare for a potential confrontation with China in the new era of great-power competition.” You can read Lubold full article here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-u-s-military-has-an-explosive-problem-6e1a1049?mod=hp_lead_pos7 5:05pm- The Drive at 5: During Thursday's House Judiciary Committee hearing on Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Reform, Inspector General Michael Horowitz seemingly conceded that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has conducted more than 3 million warrantless searches of communications involving American citizens. Here's what they cover: Ten of the top U.S. universities have endowments worth more than $200 billion even as President Biden plans to cancel up to $20,000 of student loan debt for many Americans. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis described retiring Dr. Anthony Fauci as an “elf” and called for him to be chucked “across the Potomac” River. House Republicans were blocked Wednesday from criticizing President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan by Facebook, saying such posts violate community standards, according to officials. Dems on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis released a report Wednesday alleging the Trump administration pressured health officials to approve unproven COVID-19 treatments and rush authorization of vaccines. First Lady Jill Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 once again in a rebound case. Hello again, friends. Thank you for joining me for the second week of my Wealth and Poverty class. In today's class, we begin to explore why such inequalities have soared since the late 1970s and early 1980s. The questions we'll focus on today are: How did the market for financial capital contribute to inequalities of income and wealth? Did the accepted purpose of the American corporation change over the last fifty years, and, if so, when and how? More generally, for whom should the corporation exist? Is there such a thing as “corporate social responsibility?” You'll find recommended readings below the video. Just click on the links. Ready? Here we go. Please double-click the video box below. Thanks again for joining me! (And as always, let me know what you think in the comments below.) Click here for the Class 2 slides.Looking for another session? #016 - Sean is a coach, consultant, and trainer for nonprofit leaders. Today, he shares some of his Facebook Fundraising secrets. Using some of his strategies, some organizations have been able to raise over $10,000 in as little as 30 days. One secret is you have to do the work. The good news is, you likely already have the skills to do this. If you know how to post on Facebook you can do this.Sean says that if you have 500+ Facebook friends, you can raise $1,000. If 10 people in your organization do this, you can raise $10,000. It only takes a month. The key takeaways from my discussion with Sean are: #1 People are FAR more likely to give, if someone they know and like asks them;#2 Get people willing to do it, have them invite their Facebook friends, and post daily; #3 You will be surprised by the people who donate; AND#4 Don't assume someone doesn't have money to give - don't be both the buyer and the seller.Be sure to check out his website at nonprofitfixer.com.
#013 - James Speirs from ABC Fundraising shares with us how they pivoted when COVID hit from fundraisers primarily focused on food items to selling custom face masks online. The face masks have been such a HUGE HIT, they've become their MOST POPULAR FUNDRAISING CONCEPT.It is pretty simple. You give them your logo & background color and for a low initial $40 fee, you get a web-store with about 20 face masks available in both adult and youth sizes. Eight are custom with your logo and the remaining are either general (eg American Flag, blank, dog, cat, etc….). The variety makes customers buy more. Their process reduces the risk to the group / organization because: -You don't need to carry expensive inventory. -Low 50 face mask minimum (not 50 orders, 50 total face masks) -Masks are prepaid - they only produce the face masks that are ordered and pre-paid.-Very low upfront costs - only $25 set-up fee plus a $15 web-store fee.-Your group gets a check when the campaign ends a few weeks later.Customers place their order and pay directly in the web-store. The variety in the web-store (20-ish masks) AND a discount when you buy 3 or more, results in 80% - 90% of the customers buying 3 or more face masks. This has been a HUGE hit with schools, churches, youth sports, local businesses, and non-profits of all sizes. You simply send your logo and the ABC team will work with it and provide you with 8 custom face masks plus some generic options for your web-store. You can be up and running in 24 hrs and have your funds in a month. One of his groups earned $2,000 on a $40 investment - that is a WHOPPING 5,000% Return on Investment. AND FURTHERMORE, they've opened their store again. Once you pay the initial $40 fee, you can open and close your web store whenever you want.

President Trump held another coronavirus briefing without the nation’s top doctors. He declared “cases remain low and very stable” as the U.S. nears 4 million cases and deaths have topped 142,000 people. California was one of the first states to shut down and seemed to have the virus under control, but after a resurgence, it has surpassed New York with the most coronavirus cases in the country. Dr. Barbara Ferrer is the Los Angeles County Public Health Director and says Covid-19 is set to become one of the leading causes of death in her county. Plus, the President says he will “surge” federal law enforcement officers to Chicago and other American cities even though local leaders are pushing back. Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said it would be a “cold day in hell” before he would agree to a “unilateral, uninvited intervention.” He joins AC360 and says he’s disappointed with the President’s response and it seems like a “reality TV approach” to a very serious problem.
