Today we're talking about the amazing difference that a month of chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo can make in your life, told through the story of Alex McClintock, of Hawaii. Alex is currently a diver in the Coast Guard, one of the hardest careers to train for, but his story starts in his early 20s when he felt completely stagnant. After dropping out of college and feeling increasingly lost, Alex decided to try chanting for one month, just to see what happened. He quickly realized that he didn't value his own life, and as he took the steps to build his confidence, he changed everything.Note: To join our 31-day chanting journey beginning January 18, 2022, sign up here.CHEAT SHEET1:13 Introduction to Alex1:24 Why Alex decided to try chanting for a month5:08 Two things that changed right away10:04 How he decided to join the Coast Guard12:46 What the struggle to value his life looked like17:00 Alex's journey through dive school23:25 How his Buddhist practice turned him into a person of action29:23 The struggle to pass exams after dive school34:37 The role of the Buddhist community in his transformation38:27 His favorite Buddhist quote40:34 Advice for anyone who wants to value their life more greatlyReferences: “On Rebuking Slander of the Law,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, p. 444 The New Human Revolution, vol. 16, p. 28

How an ironic sensibility can boost engagement at work. After reading a couple of hundred job applications Alex McClintock offers his advice on how to make your one shine.
We know, we know. Everyone is lamenting the fact that we're not getting Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter this weekend, but there's nothing we can do about it now. But pay attention, because there's still other stuff going on in boxing that's worth talking about. Or ridiculing. Or whining about. It's yet to be determined. But last weekend saw Luis Ortiz sent Tony Thompson packing in the HBO headliner, while Jessie Vargas scored a surprising victory over previously unbeaten Sadam Ali in the opener. Prospect Antoine Douglas also lost his 0 over on Showtime to Avtandil Khurtsidze, while almost-contender Julian Williams scored another win. Lucas Browne picked up some manner of heavyweight belt by defeating Ruslan Chagaev, too. Don't forget that stuff. This week Alex McClintock, editor of Radio National and deputy editor of The Queensberry Rules, joins Patrick Connor of The Fight City in rehashing all of the recent happenings. Follow us on Twitter! Have you showered yet? There's a good chance that, following that Pay-Per-View card last weekend, you might have a thin film of filth all over you. Floyd Mayweather is probably still the best fighter on the planet, but his ego was deflated some after a prolonged tussle with Marcos Maidana in their rematch. That was interesting to some, but notmuchmore on the paid card was, unfortunately. This week on TQBR Radio, Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules welcomes Alex McClintock, deputy editor for ABC Radio National and Queensberry Rules. Not much is on tap for the next week or so, but Orlando Salido, George Groves and a few others may pop up in conversation. Thanks for tuning in!
Gennady Golovkin gave the boxing world something else to think about other than likely-failed match ups and weird Twitter rants from fighters in destroying Matthew Macklin this past weekend. But the boxing sphere doesn't cease to revolve and rotate, and Queensberry Rules Radio, hosted by James Foley of BadLeftHook.com and Patrick Connor of Queensberry-Rules.com, comes back for another week of boxing discussion. This week, TQBR Radio is joined once again by Jimmy Tobin of TheCruelestSport.com to get his take on last weekend's fights - including Golovkin-Macklin, Thomas Oosthuizen vs Brandon Gonzales, Sergio Mora vs Grzegorz Proksa, Anthony Crolla vs Gavin Rees and much more - and also to preview this coming weekend's action, like Tony Thompson vs David Price II. And as an added bonus, Alex McClintock, also of TQBR, joins the show for the second week in a row to get in on the party. Thanks for tuning in!
The action in boxing doesn't have many extended lulls for a bit, and neither will Queensberry Rules Radio. This week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of BadLeftHook.com and Patrick Connor of Queensberry-Rules.com recap this last week's action. Adrien Broner's decision over Paulie Malgnaggi, Seth Mitchell's snoozer with Jonathon Banks, Sakio Bika's fun brawl with Marco Antonio Periban and much more will be at least touched upon, as well as previews Gennady Golovkin vs Matthew Macklin, Grzegorz Proksa vs Sergio Mora, Thomas Ooszthuizen vs Brandon Gonzalez and more. Joining the tediferous twosome this week is Kieran Mulvaney, writer for ESPN, Discovery and Reuters. Later in the broadcast, Alex McClintock, also of TQBR, will be joining the show. Thanks for tuning in!
