Our bud Chris Barone joins us to chat about his time in The Buddy System | The Gun Stays | American Age, being the tour manager for As Tall As Lions, and chat about The Buddy System's reunion show at Amityville Music Hall on 8/27 ++ way more! Power chords and crashing boards. Mikey, Tom, and Justin talk music, hockey, and anything else that gets in their way. Tom and Mikey are lifelong friends that grew up on Long Island during the glory days of alternative music where our local bands were As Tall As Lions, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, The Sleeping, Envy on the Coast, you get the point. We spent many nights together at The Downtown, catching any pop-punk, indie, hardcore, or emo band that came through. This was not a phase, Mom! Fast forward 20 years and we are still just as passionate about the scene as we were during our girl jeans and youth XL band tees days. Tom and Mikey are diehard New York Islanders fans, but Justin (Bolts fan) likes to remind us that we are #notanislespodcast. As we got older we realized we can like more than one thing and running beside our love for music has always been our love for hockey. We have realized we are not alone in this thinking, actually there are many of us that love these two things! This podcast explores just how connected they are! NEW EPISODE EVERY TUESDAY! We talk PUNCHYOURFACE, Internal Bleeding, Without Remorse, the origin of Karate Moshing, Thug Squad, IDS, Sworn Enemy, Agents of Man, Everybody Gets Hurt, Pain of Truth (again), Amityville Music Hall, Sicks Deep, and more. Next week, I'm having Morty Shootout (NYC Shootout) on the show and we're gonna talk up-and-coming LIHC and Death bands.
First, there was Back Issues Comic Book Podcast. Then came the Hardly Awesome Podcast. Every time you think they've finished, another podcast begins. That's because Chris and Anthony Just Can't Stop! Listen every week as Chris and Anthony get together to talk about life, pop culture, current events and everything in between. On this episode, Chris and Anthony recount their trip to Long Island to see Keep Flying at Amityville Music Hall. Over the two day weekend, the two stopped in at Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, explored Fire Island, braved the dark energies of the Amityville house, and hung out at the Quick Stop mini-mart in Leonardo, NJ. Oh yeah, and they had their faces melted over a two night celebration of Keep Flying's latest album Survival. I want to thank Hip-Hop legend Cormega for calling into my show "Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max" last night on WSJU Radio at St. John's University. He talked about growing up in Queens and the rappers who inspired him. He explained why he took the independent artist route and how he was able to market/sell his records that way. He discussed why he didn't mention any brands on his "Mega Ep" and he gave his view on politics. He ranked his albums from top to bottom. He does not listen to the new mainstream Hip-Hop today. He just focuses on making the music that he has been making since the beginning. Something that I love about Cormega is that he really cares about his fans. He has called every fan on the phone that has sent him proof that they bought his new Ewing sneakers. Cormega went into details on his collaborations with Ewing Athletics and Chalk Line. He mentioned that he has new music on the way, so stay tuned for that and he will also be performing in Long Island on October 19th at Amityville Music Hall. His Ewings are now available for purchase at Ewing Athletics: https://shop.ewingathletics.com/products/sport-lite-x-cormega-castlerock-lime. Interview with professional promoter John Scanlon of Long Island hardcore, Amityville Music Hall, and The Fight.
Level 31 of My Little Underground has double interview action from Twen and a conversation with Kristin Kontrol from 2015! I caught up with Twen after their set at Amityville Music Hall to talk up their upcoming album Awestruck out September 20th. They talked about their deal with Frenchkiss Records, not writing the same song twice, avoiding trends, the unique smell of Long Island, and more! Back in August 2015, Kristin Kontrol did an intimate set at a Moscot location in NYC. I had the pleasure of getting to chat with her briefly after her set. Happy listening! ---- Follow Peter A: @ItsPeter_A (IG & Twitter) Subscribe to My Little Underground on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, and peteraradio.com! #MLUPod
