In light of a series of miracles in our readings for today, Fr. Mike focuses on our Lord's compassion and our call to be merciful, as he is. He emphasizes the beauty of God's mercy and his offering of it despite our unworthiness. He also strikes a balance between the goodness of humanity as God's creation and our brokenness due to original sin. Today's readings are Luke 6-8 and Proverbs 26:1-3. Paul comes to what we call a "rapid fire" section of his letter. A series of commands and instructions that come quickly and pointedly in Romans 12:9-21. Though it is rapid fire, they aren't entirely disconnected. Verse 9 serves as a proper header for these verses around the theme of genuine love. Last week we looked at what genuine love for one another in the body of Christ looks like. This week we tackle what genuine love for our enemies looks like.
The climax of Jesus' Old Testament precedent-busting commands is his command for Christians to love their enemies. The most beautiful part of this command is the motivation behind it. We love our enemies, because God is an enemy-loving God. We love our enemies to be close to him, and to be like him.

9/18/22 In Jesus' day, some people thought it was okay to love their friends and hate their enemies. Why would they have thought that? More importantly, why do we? And what does Jesus have to say to us about the hatred in our own hearts?
On today's ID the Future, geologist Casey Luskin continues to unpack his recently published essay against the view that humans evolved from ape-like ancestors via blind Darwinian processes. In this episode he shares his experience of walking into the fossil hall at South Africa's famous Maropeng Museum and immediately being confronted by a piece of shameless materialist propaganda, a Richard Dawkins quotation prominently displayed as part of a floor-to-ceiling display. The quotation insisted that humans are essentially just DNA survival machines. Luskin says, not so fast, and points out the various ways such a view fails to explain important aspects of human behavior, including altruistic behavior toward non-kin. Luskin and host Eric Anderson also call evolutionary theory to task for being Read More › Source

43. You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor, and you shall have hatred for your enemy.' 44. But I say to you: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. And pray for those who persecute and slander you. 45. In this way, you shall be sons of your Father, who is in heaven. He causes his sun to rise upon the good and the bad, and he causes it to rain upon the just and the unjust. 46. For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Do not even tax collectors behave this way? 47. And if you greet only your brothers, what more have you done? Do not even the pagans behave this way? 48. Therefore, be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect.
We all have people we find hard to be kind to. Â In today's boost, hear one of my stories that I believe will change your perspective on being kind to everyone - even your enemies.
