My guest this week is composer and musician Prateek Rajagopal (Executive Producer and Co-Composer of Blarf with Eric André: Film Scores For Films That Don't Exist, former member of Indian grindcore band Gutslit & film composer. We discuss how Prateek at a young age was not deemed ready for Metallica by his older brother, growing up in metal and hardcore punk, high school bands, Prateek writing jingles in India while working as a banker, the Indian metal scene, Grindcore & Gutslit, how punk and metal were not united in the 80s, going on autopilot as a musician, how to do weird things with an electric guitar, bombing in music, how Jonny Greenwood inspired Prateek and how he ended up in the USC Film Scoring Masters program, the lack of western musical infrastructure in India and how that's improving, scoring the film Tu Yaa Main and working with director Bejoy Nambiar, how Prateek and Eric André got on each other's radar, straddling Blarf's earnest film scores with heaps of subversiveness, composing the songs Dead Balleria and Run For Your Death, translating Blarf live, smashing instruments, what Eric André and Prateek hoped to achieve with this record and more!PRATEEK RAJAGOPAL:prateekrajagopal.comBLARF:stonesthrow.com/store/film-scores-for-films-that-dont-existREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film, or music videos to discuss. Today on the podcast I am delighted to say that I am going to be joined by two amazing artists, who are Drew of the Grindcore band See You Next Tuesday and the one man noisegrind act,CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP (aka Chop7Times, Chop7x, Chopx7) from New Haven, CT. Together these two artists have created one of my favourite releases of the year, a collaborative EP titled 'Brothers'.This collaborative release is based off of a book entitled The Brothers' War, a 1998 fantasy novel by Jeff Grubb; it is the first book in the Magic: The Gathering: Artifacts Cycle, detailing the epic conflict between brothers Urza and Mishra on the world of Dominaria. The book explores the origins of Urza and the magical and technological arms race that leads to cataclysmic events. For the album, side A, See You Next Tuesday's Chris wrote his lyrics based on the perspective of the Brother Urza, while Chop wrote his lyrics from Mishra's perspective for side B.We are going to be going through the entire EP, talking about how this collaboration began, why they choose 'The Brothers War' as the inspiration for the EP and how it was used to construct the music, Magic The Gathering and their awesome music video, 'Old Thoughts, and Regrets'. The EP is available for purchase now in two vinyl forms, digitally on Bandcamp and will be available for streaming on May 15th, this Friday!Purchase 'Brothers' on Vinyl Hosted on Acast. Wheezing new life and enjoyment into the current Australian heavy music climate, the arthritic riddled retirees known as GOPHER have released their astonishing, must hear debut album Tunnel Buddies.Featuring the forever young looking and current world mahjong champion Ernie Bingo on vocals, and perpetually complimented by the effervescent ladies man Ned Smelly on guitars, they prove without a doubt that you are never too old to hail the horns and bang your head. Even if it is fused to your neck.GOPHER's infectious debut album Tunnel Buddies knits together a cohesive fusion of knee wobbling groovy grind, back breaking death/slam, slinky massaging synths, sedating sing along anthemic choruses, and most importantly FUN! Like a bit of diversity in your heavies and looking for something new to gnash your gums on? GOPHER, unlike Australia Post, delivers! To coincide the album's release is a brand spanking new single and video for their about to be shindig hit Party In The Sky - a tale of guitarist and scrabble shark Ned Smelly's passion for guzzling grog on flights and expertly making the time whizz by. Ned states, ‘When you're up in the air for hours on end and with only shitty modern-day entertainment on offer, what better way to kill the time than drinking the plane dry, charming the hosties and passing the fuck out. We've all got a plane face and my ancient wrinkly noggin is the best of ‘em! This splendid ditty kicks off with a catchy synth intro before launching into an all-out groove riff spread and then cleverly leading into an all-time party sing along anthem. Get your boarding pass and come ‘Party In The Sky' with us."Disturbed by the happenings with Gopher's sudden rise through the ranks, HEAVY tracked Ned down at his tropical hideaway to figure out whether or not to take Gopher's threats seriously. But first we thought we would compliment him on how good he looks today."Look, when you're this old, everything freezes up," he spat back, possibly not believing I was being genuine. "Your muscles are fucked. Everything's just gone to shit. So I'm doing the best I can with what I've got to work with, you know? It's not easy. We do what we do. 250 years old, man."We turn our attention to Gopher's new single, Party In The Sky, with much the same result."Yes. Yes," he nodded. "We like to party. We like to drink every day and smoke dairy and not do much else. We'll play guitars and write some music and do this crazy stuff. But yes, that's what we do. Flying in a plane is really boring, so what better way to pass the time than just to get really pissed, drink the plane dry and just pass the fuck out and voila, you land and you're good to go. Well, not so good, you're shit really, but at least you slept those six hours and then the time's gone."In the full interview, Ned described Party in the Sky as party metal about partying on a plane, explaining the song's themes and the video concept of staged on-the-road misbehavior, and positioned the album as a mix of metal subgenres with heavy riffs, synth elements, and singalong choruses. We talked about the past, present and future of Gopher, digging holes in Indonesia and their fun first ethos and attitude to music. Ned went off track more than a few times, but when he regained his focus we talked more about the musical side of Gopher's music, what they hope to bring to the music scene, playing live and much more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Live piercing. Extreme contortion. A Samora Squid show is shocking, confronting, hilarious and not for the faint of heart. “What I do, it's not stand up, though I'm sure I'll say some dumb shit that people will laugh at. There'll be a lot of non-verbal storytelling, involving sharp pointy things and burny things. When I registered the show, I ticked all the trigger warnings. [Laughs] Not all of them were in the show yet, but I wanted to cover my bases.”Having spent years performing everywhere from Europe to Dubai, SQUID'S SUNDAY SIDESHOW was born when the Melbourne Comedy Festival put out applications. “I thought, “It's been a while since I've staged something I've made … This is a good chance for me to make a new show, to revitalise old stuff, to try new stuff out, and do something that encompasses the range of skills that I've acquired over the last thirty years. This show's got my original music in it, as abrasive, industrial and dystopian as it is. I'll be using all my physical theatre training, and all of my knowledge of theatre to turn a dive bar into a unique experience. The Tote is one of my favourite places for live music.”HEAVY caught up with the man himself to peek behind the curtain some more...Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

In support or their the long-overdue debut album ‘The World Is Not Yours', Melbourne based purveyors of blackened grinding death, MUNT embark on a spiteful nine show Australian east coast throughout March and April of 2026. Supported by death / groove churners Nembutolik, this promises to be a local tour not to be missed.Across thirteen relentless tracks on The World Is Not Yours, MUNT forges black metal, death metal, grindcore, hardcore, and noise into a dense slab of raw aggression, sharpened by a bitter philosophical edge. This edge cuts like a rusted scalpel, dissecting the hubris, corruption, indifference, and complacency that underlie our sick society. From start to finish, the album drags the listener through an urban hellscape of despair, disillusion, and the realisation of powerlessness. This is MUNT at their most focused, dynamic, and driven — Their sound, distilled into its purest and most caustic form, stands as one defining statement: THE WORLD IS NOT YOURS.HEAVY caught up with vocalist Tim Richmond to find out more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
