This episode goes back to MLB All-Star week and comes live from the Players Alliance Game Changer Celebration. I was on the Black Carpet and interviewed everyone who came through, including Hall of Famer and Game Changer Award Recipient Fergie Jenkins, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, and Hip-Hop Legend Ed Lover. This episode is very special because, in a short period, I had the opportunity to ask them about the state of the game for Black and Brown players and what an organization like the Players Alliance means to them. I'm also honored to announce a brand new podcast partner: Rebellion Harvest. Rebellion Harvest is a Black-owned sunflower seed company based in ATL. We are truly honored to have them as partners along with Steelo Sports, the Players Alliance, Herencia 21, and Numbers Game Scorecards. Please rate and review this episode, share it with your peers, and subscribe. As always, thank you for your support. It really means a lot.
***EDITOR'S NOTES*** This episode originally aired on YouTube on September 8th 2023. At this point in our show we created a multiple 8.0-8.4 series that isn't complete by the time of this stream release. We'll revisit it in the new year. We also finally corrected the episode listings here by titling it episode 10. Our first episode (currently only available on YouTube) was marked as a Pilot, however, Johnny Warbux kept referring to each episode as an installment so episode 1 was our 2nd installment and so on. We finally just corrected this on all fronts to match all releases. So it may look like we've skipped an episode here, but the reality is, we just matched the installment number with the release number. This is the first episode where we began releasing a short description of the video on YouTube as well as promotional hashtags and time stamps! This episode was also controversially released around the time that the “slap heard around the world” occurred between Will Smith and Chris Rock. We wanted to do an end of summer song where we could tie in the fall season ahead and The Fresh Prince's catalog was perfect for that transition as we explain in the show. We hope you enjoy the show for what it is focused on, the love of this song and the musical legacy/impact this record had/has on the globe. Once again, please rate and review this show on whatever streaming platform you're enjoying it on and share it with other Hip-Hop heads you know in your life. As always, be sure to check out the accompanying playlist by Johnny Warbux on Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3jClBCpXHxUY3ehseBUntT?si=1PpbIN2RR3-GRDs19CN4PA&pi=u-muM5uxidRxaA Pick where to listen to the episode on your favorite platform by heading over to our main page on Podbean - https://therapperscorner.podbean.com One Love, - The RTR Crew #RememberTheRecord #RappersCorner #TheRappersCorner #SirPuffALot #KalashnikovRed #JohnnyWarbux #HipHop #Rap #HipHopMusic #RapMusic #HipHopPodcasts #RapPodcasts #HipHopInterviews #RapInterviews #YouTubePodcasts #Podcasts #Summertime #DJazzyJeffAndTheFreshPrince #DJJazzyJeff #TheFreshPrince #FreshPrince #WillSmith #KFingers #Hula #RolandEdison #KoolAndTheGang #HomeBase #Jive #JiveRecords #90sHipHop ———————————————————————- ….Summertime Vibes and Hip-Hop Legend…. Welcome to the tenth installment of "Remember the Record" with Johnny Warbux and Kalashnikov Red! This time, we're diving into the iconic hit "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, released on May 20th, 1991. Before we get into the groove of this classic, we take a moment to honor the late Magoo and discuss Virginia's rich musical legacy. We reminisce about our recent listening habits, including DJ Muggs' new Soul Assassins album and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's timeless tracks. The episode also explores the lasting impact of Will Smith on hip-hop, his inspiring journey, and the cultural significance of "Summertime." We delve into the song's creation, its chart-topping success, and the seamless blend of R&B and hip-hop that defines it. Join us as we celebrate the enduring legacy of Will Smith, his contributions to the genre, and why "Summertime" remains a must-listen track every year. Plus, we touch on some of Will Smith's notable movies and discuss our personal favorites. Don't miss this deep dive into one of hip-hop's most beloved summer anthems!

In this captivating episode, I sit down with the illustrious Elove, a towering figure in the world of hip-hop and a rock ‘n' roll Hall of Fame inductee alongside LL Cool J. Elove's journey is as inspiring as it is unique; from his early days as a B-boy to becoming the iconic silhouette on the Public Enemy logo, an image that has recently been crowned the number one logo in hip-hop by a prestigious list of the top 50 logos in the industry. Elove's influence doesn't stop at his visual contribution to hip-hop; he's also a revered producer, having left his mark on numerous productions that have resonated within the community and beyond. But Elove's story takes an even more intriguing turn as we delve into his work outside of music. As a federal lobbyist, he's navigated the halls of the Senate and the House, advocating for change and using his voice in spaces far removed from the stages and studios where he first made his name. Join me as Elove takes us on a journey through the evolution of hip-hop, from its nascent days to its current status as a global phenomenon. He shares insights into his own productions, the transformative power of hip-hop music, his philanthropic efforts for the community, and his personal journey from the streets of New York to the sunshine of Los Angeles. Despite his immense success and influence, Elove remains one of the most humble and down-to-earth individuals you could ever hope to meet. This episode is not just a conversation; it's a masterclass in passion, perseverance, and the power of staying true to one's roots. Get ready to be inspired by the legend that is Elove, in a story that proves hip-hop is more than music—it's a movement that shapes lives and cultures around the world.
