If you follow Milwaukee music, there's a very good chance you've heard Josh Evert's work. In addition to being the longtime singer of The Fatty Acids, Evert played drums in Jaill, he's currently part of a great new project called Dinner Set Gang, and he crafts inventive and impressive solo work using field recordings he collects in natural settings all over the world. Beyond his own artistic endeavors, Evert also records a wide range of musicians at Silver City Studios — a Milwaukee-based studio he co-owns — and he's helped raise approximately $70,000 for school art programs as one of the founders of Arte Para Todos. Shortly after returning from an artist residency on a ship stationed in the Arctic Circle, Evert welcomed My First Band host Tyler Maas into his studio to talk about that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, what he plans to create from the sounds gathered in the arctic, and what he's currently up to with Dinner Set Gang and at Silver City Studios. Along the way, Evert also talked about early bands and his stint in a boys choir while growing up in a small town outside of Madison, the start (and rapid growth) of The Fatty Acids, experiences from his time in the band Jaill, his foray into the recording business, and much more. My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Lakefront Brewery. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify and wherever else you get podcasts. You can also listen to rebroadcasts of previous My First Band episodes on WMSE every Wednesday from noon to 12:30 p.m. CST. Music used in this episode comes courtesy of Devils Teeth ("The Junction Street Eight Tigers") and Josh Evert ("Phantom Limb").

Tune into Local/Live for a set from Klassik (and his new band) as he gets ready for his gig during the Arte Para Todos festival on Friday, April 27th at Club Garibaldi’s. Klassik has shared the stage with acts such as Kendrick Lamar, Talib Kweli, DJ Premier, and Robert Glasper to name a few. Klassik is truly an old soul. His fusion of hip hop and jazz, amongst many other genres, pays homage to the many legends of generations past. His music is not based around braggadocio or glorification of the world’s ills, but rather portrays a positive, forward thinking person, fueled by his inspiration to constantly create and innovate. His diverse influences including Stevie Wonder, John Coltrane, and Pharrell Williams have helped mold a blend of musical styles that comes out one hundred percent unique, fresh, and timeless. Tune into WMSE for Local/Live on Tuesday, April 24th for a live, on-air set from Klassik – WMSE.org to stream live or in the archives, or simply tune your radio to 91.7 FM at the 6 o’clock hour. In 2011, Milwaukee artist Jeff Redmon and Made In Milwaukee's Chuck Watson put their heads together on an annual event meant to bring artists and Bay View businesses together. Bay View Gallery Night was born. Entering its seventh year, the one-night undertaking is bigger, better, and more wide-reaching than ever. Along the way, they joined forces with Bay View Jazz Fest as well. On June 2, Bay View Gallery Night will return with more than 50 Bay View (and Bay View-adjacent) businesses, close to 100 artists, 30-plus jazz projects, and 12 music venues combining for the affair. Prior to the event, host Tyler Maas met up with Redmon and Watson to discuss the history of Bay View Gallery Night, how it has grown and developed over the years, and how Milwaukee supports its artists (and decides to fund public art). The trio also talked about the great Arte Para Todos benefit, which Watson and Redmon help organize.
Gauss is a Milwaukee musical collective formed in 2012 with origins in the Riverwest basement scene. Punk music inspires their ethos and intensity and a desire to escape punk music propels their continual evolution in sound and songwriting. Now featuring trumpet, violin, and keys, Gauss appears to be a post-rock chamber group. However, they’re equally capable of hair-rising feedback, subtle pop covers, backing up rappers, and making enchanting new sounds every year. Gauss is getting ready to release brand new material and will be playing two upcoming shows in April: the first on Friday, April 21st at the High Dive (which is a benefit for the MacCannon Brown Homeless Sanctuary) and Saturday, April 29th (for Arte Para Todos 2017 with Foreign Goods).
El Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona y el CaixaForum acogen su primera muestra conjunta, la exposición Arte, dos puntos.
