Cinquenta anos depois do 11 de Novembro de 1975, Angola entra na segunda metade do seu primeiro século de independência com mais perguntas do que certezas. As celebrações ficaram para trás. Permanece uma interrogação sobre a liberdade, a justiça e o dia-a-dia de um país onde a promessa da independência continua distante da vida de muitos angolanos. A data redonda trouxe celebrações, discursos e retrospectivas, mas ficou uma inquietação nova, mais crítica, que atravessa gerações. É nesse silêncio que se mede hoje a distância entre a promessa da independência e a vida concreta dos angolanos. Uma distância que, para a jornalista Diana Andringa, continua marcada por memórias de afecto, de choque e de pertença: “A mais forte é certamente o sítio onde eu nasci… o Dundo, que eu costumo dizer que é a minha pátria.” Diana Andringa nunca esqueceu que a liberdade angolana começou também no seu próprio confronto com o Estado Novo. “Ter sido julgada no Tribunal Plenário por apoiar a independência de Angola… poder dizer à frente daqueles juízes que sim, eu apoio a independência, a luta armada”, recorda. Por isso, mesmo longe de Luanda, o 11 de Novembro foi vivido como ruptura íntima: “Foi sobretudo o arrear da bandeira portuguesa e subir a bandeira angolana. Uma pessoa, em princípio, não se esquece.” Essa primeira sensação de emancipação ainda a acompanha. “De repente, a liberdade. O ser livre… mesmo quando as coisas não correm muito bem.” Mas depressa a ideia se torna mais áspera: “Ser livre hoje em Angola é… não ser uma colónia de um determinado país”, diz, antes de reconhecer outras dependências, mais difusas e contemporâneas: “Ficas colonizado pelas grandes companhias, pelos grandes interesses económicos, tal como noutros países.” Ainda assim, insiste numa conquista irredutível: “És angolano. Isto quer dizer alguma coisa.” Mas é também aqui que surge a sua frase mais amarga, repetida como síntese de desilusão histórica: “Não foi isto que nós combinámos.” O que estava prometido, afirma, era “uma Angola igual para todos, com justiça social, sem corrupção”. Hoje, a sua inquietação desloca-se para formas mais subtis de controlo. “A censura que mete mais medo é aquela que vem de dentro de nós”, afirma. E identifica na precariedade o maior inimigo do jornalismo: “Um jornalista precário não é livre… no dia seguinte está na rua. Isso limita a liberdade dele e a de toda a sociedade.” No balanço destes 50 anos, permanece uma ferida difícil de aceitar: “Custa-me… por aceitar”, confessa, perante um país onde convivem “elites muito ricas e gente a passar fome”. Ainda assim, mantém o desejo íntimo de pertença: “Gostava que me dessem os papéis… era para morrer angolana também, que é o que eu sou.” E reivindica uma identidade dupla que muitos continuam a estranhar: “As pessoas têm duas pátrias.” No plano político, o historiador Eugénio Costa Almeida lembra que Angola chega ao meio século com “instituições frágeis, desigualdade persistente” e uma juventude “muito mais consciente e crítica”, que já não aceita explicações históricas para problemas presentes. A ausência de um “contrato social” e o desgaste das promessas repetidas tornam-se evidentes num país onde a informalidade domina e a confiança é escassa. Sem ignorar o peso da história, recorda que Angola viveu “problemas políticos muito graves” e uma longa guerra civil, factores que marcaram profundamente o Estado e a sociedade. Ainda assim, considera que isso não explica tudo. Nota, por exemplo, que o país “felizmente nunca passou por um golpe de Estado”, ao contrário de outros contextos africanos, o que torna mais evidente a frustração perante o ritmo lento das transformações. O passado colonial surge frequentemente no debate político, mas de forma selectiva. “Quando convém, sim, o passado é usado para justificar o presente”, afirma, sublinhando que essa prática não é exclusiva de Angola, apontando que muitas vezes a população “come e cala”, seja por cansaço, seja por uma memória curta convenientemente explorada. Da análise política de Justino Pinto de Andrade surge o diagnóstico mais severo: Angola vive “um sistema multipartidário”, mas não uma democracia plena. A ausência de alternância, a confusão estrutural entre Estado e partido e as “restrições e constrangimentos” à oposição revelam, na sua leitura, um regime onde a pluralidade existe, mas não é garantida. “Alguém tem que lutar”, afirma, para que a liberdade deixe de ser apenas um princípio constitucional e passe a ser experiência do dia-a-dia. Para o político e analista angolano Justino Pinto de Andrade, o ponto de partida do debate político em Angola está viciado. “É exagerado falar-se em democracia angolana”, afirma. Na sua leitura, a democracia pressupõe condições que continuam ausentes. “Há um conjunto de condimentos que faltam muito”, observa, referindo a inexistência plena de “liberdade de escolha, de opinião, de expressão” e de circulação das forças políticas. O quadro actual é, assim, o de um processo incompleto, que “não me parece que esteja concluído em Angola”. A inexistência de alternância no poder é, para Justino Pinto de Andrade, o sinal mais evidente dessa falha estrutural. “As democracias caracterizam-se por haver alternância. Aqui nunca houve”, recorda, sublinhando que o país vive “há 50 anos com a mesma força política”, determinada a manter-se no poder “por todos os meios”. Cinquenta anos depois, Angola parece viver entre duas forças: a da memória fundadora e a da urgência presente. A da liberdade proclamada e a da liberdade por conquistar. A da identidade afirmada e a do país que talvez ainda esteja por inventar. No fim, permanece uma pergunta que, como disse Diana Andringa,“por que é que eles quiseram ser independentes?” A resposta, talvez, continua por cumprir: “Acho que o sonho de todos nós é sermos independentes.”
