We are joined on the podcast for this episode by two guests from the Royal Air Force's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), Squadron Leader Mark Sugden, OC BBMF and Flight Lieutenant Seb Davey, Bomber Leader. In an enthralling session Mark and Seb answer our questions about the Flight and talk us through what representing the RAF's volunteer historical unit involves, what sets the BBMF apart from both the wider service and civilian operators and how you go from flying an A400M Atlas to an Avro Lancaster. Welcome to the second magazine episode of Series Three, all about the magnificent county of Lincolnshire and its long-standing aviation connections. Lincolnshire was the base for our incredible T.L.G trip last year where we visited NX611 'Just Jane' at the Lincolnshire Heritage Aviation Centre (see the last episode!), visited the BBMF and the Typhoon squadron at RAF Conningsby, watched the Red Arrows at RAF Scampton, and even got a chance to go gliding and microlighting. (These episodes coming soon!) This episode focuses on 'Bomber County' and an establishment we regard as the spiritual home of Top Landing Gear - The wonderful Petwood Hotel. A enchanting timeless place to visit and stay with enormous links to the RAF dating back to the WW2 when it was requisitioned as an officer's mess and became home to 617 squadron - The Dambusters l Our special guest is the hotel's director and TLG friend Emma Brealey. The Petwood is open now and makes the perfect base to explore Lincoln's distinguished aviation heritage. We urge you to visit! www.petwood.co.uk

September 2014 As part of our annual Veteran’s Reunion this year there was a fly past by a Hurricane of the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. 14,533 Hurricanes had been built by the end of World War 2, but sadly, today, there are only 12 still airworthy worldwide; only 6 of those in UK. The BBMF is proud to operate two of these historically important and rare aircraft. For more information on The BBMF please go to http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/ The beautiful picture accompanying this clip was taken by Bletchley Park’s official photographer Shaun Armstrong. King You of Zhou lays headless, the capital a smouldering ruin, and royal authority utterly destroyed. Regional lords exploit the chaos at hand to expand their own domains - and at times declare their own kingdoms - while the new, toothless Eastern Zhou kings struggle to stabilize the situation. After a holiday break, we're right back into the action with the beginnings of the Spring and Autumn Period. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Episode Six of UKAR's iTunes smash is a fitting way to round off Display Frequency's first year. Dan O'Hagan travelled to RAF Coningsby in early December to produce a show featuring the past and present of our nation's air power. First, we meet the 2013 Typhoon display pilot, Flt Lt Jamie Norris, who reveals plenty about what's gone into the most eagerly-anticipated RAF fast jet routine in years. Though "off-limits" for our recorded chat, Display Frequency was talked through the new display, and can report that it promises to be the Typhoon display we've all waited for! Next, we move over to Coningsby's Aladdin's Cave, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight hangar, to meet new Officer Commanding BBMF Sqn Ldr Duncan Mason, as well as an in-depth look at the restoration of the Flight's newest toy - Spitfire XVI TE311. Plus, the BBMF's Public Relations Officer Yvonne Masters explains how the latest social media trends are keeping the Flight in the public eye. A full show to see out 2012! As promised, here’s the interview with Syd Marshall. Syd is a volunteer guide at the Battle of Britain memorial Flight museum, and what a great interview it turned out to be. I wasn’t expecting to meet a WW2 Lancaster crew member so it was not only a pleasant surprise, for me, but Syd had some great stories to tell about his time as a flight engineer on Lancaster bombers.
An interview with several of the staff at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at RAF Coningsby. I spoke with Yvonne Masters, the PR Officer and a couple of the engineers lucky enough to work on the Spitfires, Hurricanes, Lancaster, Dakota and Chipmunks.
