One of the taglines for this event was, "Glory Bound." There was nothing glorious about this one as Dusty Rhodes tries to out-shine the main event cage match by going for the United States Title in a cage right before it. Ron Garvin was also the defending World Champion, and he couldn't draw flies if he was rolled in cow crap. The Rock 'n' Roll Express vs. Midnight Express match should have been great, but it was put on a stupid scaffold. Terry Taylor had to do some heavy lifting in the TV Title match against Nikita Koloff. "Dr. Death" Steve Williams and Barry Windham even stunk up the joint with a fairly boring encounter for the UWF World Title. The Road Warriors, in their kayfabe hometown, also get screwed by an infamous Dusty Finish that pretty much kills Chicago for JCP forever. Two other "major" things happened on this show, as Bill Watts' UWF was recently bought out by Jim Crockett and they combined as The Wrestling Network (TWN) and had multiple Title Unification matches on this show. Also, this was the first year that the WWF ran Survivor Series and put it on free TV to go against Starrcade on pay-per-view. Because of that, starting in 1988, Starrcade was moved to December. In the news, we cover WCCW and AWA trying to hang on by the thinnest of threads, the NWA's business tanking, multiple hirings, firings, and quittings, and Uncle Dave Meltzer giving a hilarious bad take on Ron Simmons, plus much more!ALL PODCAST, SOCIAL MEDIA, & MERCHANDISE LINKS: linktr.ee/MainEventMarksCHECK OUT OUR MERCHANDISE: MainEventMarks.redbubble.com & bonfire.com/store/maineventmarksGET FUELED WITH SHOCKED ENERGY: https://shockedenergy.com/collections/all?sca_ref=1814354.mOXH7RrwKh&sca_source=MainEventMarks (promo code: MainEvent for 10% off)KEEP YOUR COFFEE GIMMICK FREE AND FRESH ROASTED TO ORDER WITH COFFEE BRAND COFFEE: https://coffeebrandcoffee.com/?ref=WC7vE0tK (promo code: MAINEVENT for 5% off)GET AWESOME SPORTS T-SHIRTS: intheclutch.com/MAINEVENT (use code "MAINEVENT" for 10% off)ORDER FROM SWIFT LIFESTYLES: SwiftLifestyles.com, use PROMO CODE: MainEventMarks at checkout for 15% offLISTEN EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 9PM EST: tikilive.com/channel/BURNS

Welcome, cats and kittens, to another episode of The Lawcast. This time our hosts cover Starrcade '87: Chi-Town Heat. Unbelievably, this is the last Thanksgiving Starrcade. There's a long story here. The failure of the show is partially due to sabotage by Vince McMahon but maybe moreso the result of Crockett's own mistakes. Like moving the show from Greensboro and Atlanta to Chicago. Like having Ron Garvin win the NWA Championship and defend it against Ric Flair here in the main event. Like screwing over The Road Warriors in Chicago. We've got the fascinating story of how Vince McMahon decided to run his own Thanksgiving show to counterprogram Starrcade and ended up driving Starrcade away from Thanksgiving in the process. Sadly, Thanksgiving wrestling was never the same again after this.
Is it 2010 all over again?! The Heat and Bulls loading up to chase a ring? Adam Murray and Andrew Riche, Place To Be Nation's NBA-Team on the Pop feed, are going to give you ALL the breakdowns for the weeklong whirlwind of NBA free agency. Has the East overall become a beast witj Kyle Lowry in Miami and Lonzo Ball and DeMar DeRozan in Chicago? Did the Lakers get enough value at forward and guard to compliment the addition of Russell Westbrook and the subtraction of…. everyone else? Did the Bucks, Jazz, or Suns do enough to stay on top next year? And what in the world are the Spurs doing?! Riche and Adam also discuss the New York Knicks keeping their options open for a superstar, the Nets and Warriors' gigantic luxury tax bills, big name extensions, and much more! So suit up and take it out with Episode 204 of the NBA-Team!
On this episode of Grilling JR, Jim and Conrad look back 33 years at Starrcade 1987: Chi-town Heat, which took place on Thanksgiving - November 26, 1987 from the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL. It was the first NWA event to be broadcast on PPV, and not without controversy, as the WWF would run its inaugural Survior Series PPV event head-to-head that same night. The main event would feature Ric Flair vs. Ron Garvin inside a steel cage for the NWA Championship. Plus, Dusty Rhodes vs. Lex Luger, Arn and Tully vs. The Road Warriors, and much more! After Bill Watts' territory went out of business, he sold it off to Jim Crockett Promotions. This was their first collaboration as The Wrestling Network. This was also the night that Vince McMahon directly competed with Starrcade on Thanksgiving night with Survivor Series '87. Dusty Rhodes took on a young, fresh-faced Lex Luger in a cage, Ric Flair faced the forgotten NWA Champion Ronnie Garvin (also in a cage), Arn Anerson & Tully Blanchard vs. The Road Warriors killed the town, the Midnights and Rock n Roll were on a scaffold again, and so much more!
Chris took a trip to the midwest and it was a roaring good time! This is just the first hour as our computer crashed during the second hour. Check out our youtube channel to listen to the second hour before it crashed.

It's the end of an era with Starrcade '87: Chi-Town Heat (alternately, Glory Bound). It's time to find out if less is more, as Starrcade '87 has 5 fewer matches than the prior year. Will a shorter show be a better show? Will Dusty Rhodes face the end of his career (for 90 days)? Will Ric Flair's second time around as challenger at Starrcade be as memorable as his first? With Ole gone, will Arn and Tully carry on the Anderson Legacy? And which wrestler reminded John of a Sesame Street character? For all this and more...let's go to the ring! Like the show? Your new Thanksgiving tradition begins right now! It's the return of big time wrestling taking place after your favorite meal of the year! We start with one of the most memorable Starrcades of all time, but was it memorable for the right reasons? Is there any good reason to have a scaffold match? Has a big title match ever ended with an accidental groin hit? How did that UWF/Crockett merger turn out? There will be answers to these questions and more as Tony and Conrad cover, explain, and are sometimes perplexed by this classic event that took place 30 Thanksgivings ago; Starrcade 87, Chi-Town Heat. All this and the craziness and doo-doo talk we expect from our hosts Conrad Thompson and Tony Schiavone on this ground breaking, momentous, and delightful episode of What happened When Monday!
Cam Porter and Michael Zampino are back to bring you Starrcade '87: Chi-Town Heat! It's the first Starrcade held in Chicago and they make sure we well are aware of that by constantly reminding us.
